Canal Tow Path attack: Can you help Police?

POLICE are appealing for information after a man was seriously assaulted in Edinburgh.

Around 7pm on Sunday (13 October), a 31-year-old man was cycling eastbound on the Union Canal Tow Path, near Harrison Park, when he was approached by a man, who assaulted him.

The cyclist attended at hospital for treatment and was later released.

The suspect is described as being between 20 and 30 years old, around 6ft tall, of medium build, with dark eyebrows and possible facial hair. He was wearing a blue hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and possibly white trainers.

Extensive enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Gordon Couper said: “A man has been seriously assaulted and it is imperative that we trace the individual responsible.

“A dedicated team of officers are working on this and I would like to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to trace whoever is responsible.

“We have been gathering CCTV footage from the surrounding area, which is being reviewed.

“But I would also be very keen to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information which can assist our investigation.

“Please think back – did you see anything suspicious? Or did you see someone matching the suspect’s description in the area on Sunday evening?

“Any information, or footage, could prove vital, so please do pass it on to officers.

“Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information, or any concerns, can speak to them.

George IV Bridge assault: Do you know this man?

Police have released an image of a male they wish to speak to who may be able to assist with their enquiries into an assault which took place on Saturday, 14 September, 2024 on George IV Bridge. The incident took place at around 8pm.

The male (pictured above) is described as a white male, medium build, mid-30s, approximately 5ft 9” tall with short dark hair. He was seen to be wearing a red short sleeved polo shirt, dark skinny jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Adam Campbell said “I would urge the male pictured or anyone who may recognise him or has information about this incident to contact us as soon as possible.

“Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3442 of 14 September 2024. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”

Police appeal following post-match disorder in city centre

POLICE are appealing for information following disorder after the football match between Hibernian and Motherwell at the weekend.

On Saturday, 5 October 2024, incidents of violence and disorder were directed towards officers in the St Andrew Square area after the conclusion of the game.

Four officers suffered minor injuries as a result and four men aged 16, 17, 18 and 22 were charged in connection with incidents of violence and disorder. They were released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

Two other people were also arrested and later released without charge.

Chief Inspector Craig Rogerson said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to violence of any kind and are working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“A proportionate policing plan was in place and officers being targeted with violence while carrying out their duties is wholly unacceptable.

“Officers acted swiftly in challenging circumstances to deal with what amounted to totally unacceptable behaviour.

“A dedicated team of officers are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and appropriate action will be taken.”

Princes Street robbery: Do you know this man?

Police Scotland have released images of a male they would like to speak to in connection with a robbery which occurred on Tuesday, 14 May 2024 at around 5pm on Princes Street.

Officers believe the male in the images could assist them in their ongoing enquiries and are appealing for the male himself or anyone who may recognise him, or has information about this incident, to get in touch.

The male (pictured) is described as a white male, aged between 30-40 years old, slim build, brown facial hair and spoke with a Glasgow accent.

The male was wearing a white hooded top, black trousers and a black beanie hat.

Anyone who recognises the male pictured or has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 2725 of 14 May 2024.

Fire-raising incident in Edinburgh: CCTV image released

POLICE have released an image of a male they believe may be able to assist their enquiries into a fire-raising incident which occurred at Earl Grey Street, Edinburgh on the evening of 19 September 2024 at around 8:45pm.

Officers believe that the male shown in the image may have information that could assist them and would ask him or any members of the public who recognise him to contact police.

Detective Constable Russell Muir said “I would urge the male pictured or anyone who has information relating to him to contact police”.

Have you seen Sophie?

Officers are appealing for the assistance of the public to trace a 19-year-old woman missing from Edinburgh.

Sophie Webster was last seen leaving a property in the Dryden Street area of Edinburgh around 2.45pm this afternoon, on Friday, 6 September, 2024.

She is described as being around 5ft 7in tall, of slim build and has short hair with blonde highlights. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a white “BB” logo on the chest, black shorts with a white logo on the left leg, white trainers and was carrying a blue rucksack.

Inspector Grant McCulloch said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Sophie’s welfare and we are asking anyone who has seen her or knows where she is to get in touch.”

Khasha: The search continues

Officers conducting enquiries to locate missing woman Khasha Smith began searching in an area off Calder Road in Edinburgh today (Wednesday, 4 September, 2024).

The work includes specialist search trained officers as part of the investigation to locate Khasha who went missing almost a year ago, aged 35.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out but Khasha is still a missing person. We are continuing to support her family throughout this time.

Khasha was last seen to be safe and well on Tuesday, 10 October, 2023. She has never gone missing before. She is around 5ft, of slim build, with blue eyes and long, blonde hair.

She also has tattoos, one which is visible on her right wrist and says ‘Forever’.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson said: “We continue to follow up several lines of enquiry and are working to find answers for Khasha’s family.

“As with every missing person inquiry, all aspects of Khasha’s life have been, and continue to be, explored. We know she would never miss events such as her daughter’s birthday and Christmas, and we have to consider the possibility that she may have come to harm.

“We are constantly evaluating and exploring all the information we have and remain open minded. We are doing everything we can to find her.”

Have you seen Yvonne?

Police are appealing for information to help trace 34-year-old Yvonne Thomson missing from Edinburgh.

Yvonne was last seen yesterday (Thursday, 4 July, 2024) in the Crewe Road area in the north of the city.

She is described as having orange hair, with a septum piercing. Yvonne uses a wheelchair.

Inspector Ross Nicol said: “Yvonne was spoken to around 7.20am today but we are growingly increasingly concerned for her welfare and are seeking the help of the public in tracing her.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 1409 of Friday, 5 July, 2024.”

Sexual assaults at Silverknowes Beach: Police appeal for witnesses

POLICE are appealing for information after two teenage girls, aged 14 and 15, were sexually assaulted in the Cramond Beach area on Saturday evening (29 June).

The incident, which is understood to have involved two male youths, took place on a bench near Silverknowes Beach Car Park between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detective Sergeant Craig Donnelly said: “The Cramond Beach area would have been busy around the time the incident is reported to have taken place and we are appealing for anyone with information which could help our investigation to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who noticed two male youths in the company of two teenage girls at a bench near to Silverknowes Beach Car Park, or anything else which could be of significance.

“Incidents of this nature can understandably cause concern in the local community, and we will have additional patrols in the area to provide reassurance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3438 of Saturday, 29 June, 2024.”

D Mains Park incident: Man arrested and charged following Police appeal

POLICE have traced a man in connection with an incident in the Davidson’s Mains area of Edinburgh around 4.20pm on Tuesday, 17 October, 2023. 

The 28-year-old was arrested and charged and is due to appear in court at a later date. 

Detective Inspector Keith Taylor said: “I’d like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and came forward with information.”
