Eight youths charged following assault on bus driver

EIGHT youths have now been charged after a bus driver was assaulted at Little France in Edinburgh.


Around 6.50pm on Sunday, 5 April, 2026, Police received a report of a man having been assaulted by a large group on Little France Crescent.

A 53-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Two youths were charged at the time but, following enquiries, a further six individuals have been identified bringing the total to eight. Those involved will be reported to the relevant authorities.

Chief Superintendent David Robertson said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was simply trying to do his job.

“Violent incidents like this will not be tolerated in our community, and we will ensure that those who do engage in this type of behaviour are brought to justice.

“We will continue to work with our partner agencies and would encourage anyone with information or concerns of this type of behaviour to call Police Scotland on 101.”

Corn Exchange assault: Do you know these men?

Police Scotland has released CCTV images of two people they believe may be able to assist in an ongoing investigation into an assault that occurred within the Corn Exchange, New Market Road, Edinburgh on Saturday, 21 June, 2025, at around 11pm.

The first person is described as being a white male, aged between 20 and 25 years old, of medium build and with blond hair. They were wearing a white ‘Loewe’ t-shirt, blue jeans, and has tattoos on both arms.

The second person is described as being a white male, aged between 20 and 25 years old, with short black hair. They were wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans and trainers.

Detective Constable Beverley Burnside said: “We would ask the people in the images, or anyone who recognises them, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone who has information that may assist with this investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0848 of Sunday, 23 June 2025.

Woman dies following Restalrig assault

A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a woman in Restalrig.

Around 1am this morning (Thursday, 28 August, 2025), officers were called to a report of a disturbance at a property in Restalrig Avenue.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital where she died a short time later.

The 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault and enquiries are ongoing.

Restalrig Avenue remains closed while enquiries are carried out.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this extremely difficult time.

“There will be a continued police presence in the area while our investigations continue and I would urge anyone with any concerns, or information, to approach these officers.”

Three sought following Leith assault

POLICE are appealing for information following an assault in Leith.

The incident happened around 1am on Tuesday, 6 May, 2025 on Elbe Street when a 58-year-old man was assaulted. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The three suspects are described as being white men, around 6ft tall, in their 50s, and of muscular build.

One had short, blonde hair. Another had red hair and was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue top. The third had dark hair and was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Detective Inspector Alison MacDonald said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed this to contact us.

“We are particularly keen to speak to a person who stopped to assist the man assaulted following the incident.

“We also ask anyone with private CCTV of the area at the time to come forward.”

Terence Reilly sentenced for attempted murder in Restalrig

A 36-year-old man has been sentenced after an attempted murder in Edinburgh in 2023.

Terence Reilly was arrested and charged after the attack on a 63-year-old man in Loaning Road on Sunday, 6 August, 2023.

He was jailed for eight years at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday – Thursday, 13 February, 2025.

He was found guilty of assault to severe injury, endangerment to life and attempted murder at the same court on Thursday, 16 January, 2025.

Detective Sergeant Sophie McWhinnie said: “This was a random attack on a stranger and Reilly now faces the consequences of his violent actions.

“His victim played a vital role in achieving this outcome and I would like to thank him for his support and hope that he can now begin to move on from this experience.

“Violence and endangering the lives of others will not be tolerated and we will rigorously pursue those responsible of such crimes and ensure they are brought to justice.

“We would like to thank the community for their assistance with this enquiry, particularly those who stopped at the time to help.”

Assault in George Street: Do you know this man?

Police Scotland has released images of a man officers believe may be able to assist with their investigation into an assault in Edinburgh city centre.

The incident took place on George Street around 1.20am on Sunday, 29 September, 2024.

The man is described as of average build, around 5ft 10ins, in his mid-20’s with medium length dark hair and a moustache. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans and dark trainers with a brown over-the-shoulder bag.

Detective Sergeant Rob Finch, of Gayfield CID, said: “I would urge the man pictured, or anyone who has information relating to him, to contact the police.

George IV Bridge assault: Do you know this man?

Police have released an image of a male they wish to speak to who may be able to assist with their enquiries into an assault which took place on Saturday, 14 September, 2024 on George IV Bridge. The incident took place at around 8pm.

The male (pictured above) is described as a white male, medium build, mid-30s, approximately 5ft 9” tall with short dark hair. He was seen to be wearing a red short sleeved polo shirt, dark skinny jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Adam Campbell said “I would urge the male pictured or anyone who may recognise him or has information about this incident to contact us as soon as possible.

Leith assault: Do you know this man?

Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak to as part of an ongoing investigation into an assault which occurred between 12.30pm and 1pm on Wednesday, 31 July 2024 near Lochend Butterfly Way and Albion Road in Leith.

Officers are appealing for the man in the picture to contact them as he could have vital information which could assist their enquiries.

They are also asking anyone who recognises the man in the image to get in touch with any information they may have.

Gracemount assault: Do you know these men?

Police have released images of two men who may be able to assist with enquiries into an assault in Edinburgh that occurred on Gracemount Drive around 10pm on Tuesday, 27 August, 2024.

A 53-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

The first man is described as white, around 30-years-old, tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap, black zip up hoodie and black Adidas trainers with white sole and stripes.

He spoke with a local Scottish accent and has potential links to Bonnyrigg.

The second man is described as white, aged between 30 and 45-years-old, of heavy build and short brown hair.

He was wearing a red/orange hooded top with white draw strings, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Richmond of Edinburgh CID said: “I would urge the men pictured, or anyone who has information relating to him, to contact police as soon as possible.

Police appeal following Princes Street assault

POLICE are appealing for information following a serious assault in Edinburgh.

The incident happened around midnight on Tuesday, 2 July, 2024 at the number 30 bus stop on Princes Street, travelling west between Charlotte Street and Castle Street.

A 47-year-old man was seriously assaulted after he tried to intervene in an argument involving a man and woman. He later attended at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

Around 12.05am, the suspect and woman boarded the N11 Lothian Bus at Lothian Road, travelling towards Morningside.

Detective Constable Ryan Webster said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact us.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or been at the bus stop to please get in touch.

“We are also looking to speak to a couple onboard the N11 bus who interacted with the suspect and the woman on the top deck.”
