Police appeal for witnesses following Westside Plaza hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a car at Westside Plaza, in Wester Hailes. The incident happened around 9.30am yesterday (Thursday 14 April 2022) and is being treated as attempted murder.

The 45-year-old is currently in a serious condition in The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Detective Inspector George Calder from CID at Corstorphine Police Station said: “The vehicle did not stop after the incident, but has now been recovered by officers, we are still trying to trace the occupants.

“We appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or has dash cam footage of the incident to come forward.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0742 of 14 April 2022.”

Police appeal following Ibrox disorder

Police Scotland is appealing for information following a number of incidents surrounding Sunday’s Old Firm game.

Officers responded around 2.45am on Sunday (3 April) following a large group attending at Ibrox Stadium where different areas of the stadium were vandalised.

Three men aged 18, 22 and 25 have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing to trace others involved.

During the match, a number of missiles were directed from the stands including two separate incidents where glass bottles were thrown towards the pitch.Around 12.50pm, a glass bottle was thrown towards the field of play from the Copland Road Stand that resulted in a delay to the second half starting.

A second incident took place where another glass bottle was thrown and struck a Celtic staff member who required medical assistance.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams said: “The disorder and violence shown during the game on Sunday was completely unacceptable.

“All the relevant authorities must work together and with genuine fans to prevent incidents such as this in future. There is no place in Scottish football for this type of behaviour.

“We are continuing enquiries into a number of incidents that took place during the game, which includes the serious assault of a Celtic physiotherapist who was hit with a glass bottle.

“We would ask anyone with information to contact police via 101.”

Police appeal for witnesses after ten year old boy robbed in Trinity

Police are appealing for information after a 10-year-old boy was approached in the street and robbed next to a park in the Trinity area at around 5.30pm last night (Thursday, 31 March).

The boy was walking in Zetland Place near its junction with Stirling Road at Lomond Park, along with two friends when he was approached by an older male youth.

The youth was walking from the direction of Trinity Road with two others and asked the boy to hand over his bag and when he refused he was threatened. As a result he handed over some coins.

The suspect then ran off towards Trinity Road. He is described as aged 16 to 18-years old, around 5ft 9ins, of medium build with red hair. He was wearing a black puffer-style jacket with the hood up, black tracksuit bottoms, black shoes and was carrying a black bag.

Detective Constable Rich Paton said: “This was a nasty and horrible experience for a school child who was out with friends on the way to a park. He has been left extremely upset by the incident.

“I am asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch, particularly if you have ring-bell or dash-cam footage. In addition if you know the suspect or anything else that could help with our enquiries then please contact us.”

Police appeal following assault and robbery in Gilmerton

Police are appealing for information following an assault and robbery in Gilmerton.

A 42-year-old man was walking along the cycle path near to Gilmerton Station Road, around 00.30am on Friday, 25 March, when he was approached by two men, assaulted and had his personal items stolen.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and released following treatment. 

The suspects are described as being in their mid-twenties, wearing dark clothing and were on mountain bikes. 

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with any information which may assist to get in touch.

They are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anyone matching the descriptions to contact them.

Serious assault in city centre: Police release CCTV images

Police Scotland has released images of a man they believe may hold information which might assist in relation to a serious assault that occurred at South St Andrew Street, Edinburgh around 12.50am on Friday, 27 August, 2021.

The man pictured is described as white, aged 18-25, of slim build with medium length light brown hair. He is wearing a distinctive black tracksuit top with three white vertical stripes down the centre and a large gold emblem on the back with jeans and grey trainers.

Detective Sergeant James Berry said: “I would urge the male, or anyone who has information relating to the male, depicted in the images to make contact with the police.

Market Street assault: Do you recognise this couple?

Police Scotland has released images of a male and female they believe may hold information which might assist in relation to a serious assault which occurred around 11.20pm on Sunday, 12 December, 2021, on Market Street, directly underneath North Bridge.

The male in the images is described as being white, in his mid-30s, around 5ft 9in tall and of medium build with short dark hair. He is wearing a grey/blue padded jacket and a two tone blue hooded jumper, blue jeans and was carrying a plastic orange carrier bag and a cream baseball cap.

The female in the images is described as white, in her mid-30s, around 5ft 5in and of small build. She was wearing a knee length black padded jacket with the hood up and had small-framed glasses.

Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe, from Edinburgh CID, said: “I would urge the male and female, or anyone who has information relating to the male and female, depicted in these images to make contact with the police.

Cramond pitbull attack: Eighty year old man arrested

An 80-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a six-year-old child being attacked by a dog on Cramond beach which happened around 5pm on Friday, 18 March, 2022.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a child was bitten by a dog at about 5pm last Friday (18 March 2022) at Cramond Beach.

A 6-year-old girl was walking on Cramond Beach with 3 older teenage family members when a black Pitbull dog wearing a blue and white collar knocked her over and bit her to her face, body and arms.

The girl required medical attention.

The man in charge of the dog is described as white, about 60 years old, 6 feet tall, average build, white beard, wearing a red baseball cap, a long black coat and blue jeans.

Anyone who recognises the description of this man is urged to call 101 quoting reference 2853 of 18 March 2022.

Police appeal after man spotted carrying knife in Dalry

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man was seen in possession of a knife on Caledonian Road in Dalry.

A call was received around 3.30pm, on Saturday (26 February 2022). Officers attended and carried out a full search of the area, but there was no trace of the male.

He’s described as black, around 6ft with a stocky build.He was wearing a hat, black puffer style jacket with fur trim, and black trousers.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Mark Hamilton from Corstorphine Police Station said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the description of this man, or anyone who was in the area at the time, or has dash cam footage or CCTV images, to get in touch via 101 quoting reference 2192 of 26 February 2022.”

Seven years on, Police seek witness to Newmills Road incident

Police Scotland has released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries in connection with a serious incident which occurred in the early hours of 27 August 2015 at Newmills Road in Balerno. 

Officers are keen to speak to a man who was on the number 44 bus travelling west from Edinburgh City Centre towards the Balerno area late in the evening of 26 August, 2015. 

CCTV footage has shown that the man alighted from the bus at Newmills Road, Edinburgh, shortly before midnight and detectives believe he may have vital information relating to the incident.

Detective Inspector Jon Pleasance, of Edinburgh CID, said: “This man may have witnessed something that could assist with our investigation and therefore it is vital we speak to him.

“There is no reason to believe he was involved in the incident itself, and he may have not realised that what he potentially saw or heard could assist police.

“I would ask if you are this man, or you recognise this man, please get in contact with police.

“Although this incident took place in 2015, we are determined to bring the offender to justice and are appealing for any information that can help with our enquiries.”

Police appeal following assault outside Balmoral Hotel

Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in the city centre.

Around 1.20am, on Sunday (6 February, 2022), a 39-year-old man was walking past the Balmoral Hotel in Princes Street when he was approached by man who was part of a group of people waiting at a nearby taxi rank.

An altercation took place which resulted in the 39-year-old sustaining an injury to his face. The victim attended the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and was released following treatment.

The suspect is in his mid-30s, bald and was wearing dark coloured clothing. He ran off over North Bridge towards the High Street following the incident.

Officers are reviewing any relevant CCTV images for any additional information on the incident or the suspect.

Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe from Gayfield CID said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. We know the assault was seen by a large number of people who were waiting in a taxi queue and I am asking these people to contact us.
