Man dies in hospital after crash on the A768 in Loanhead

POLICE APPEAL FOR KEY WITNESSES TO COME FORWARD

An 88-year-old man has died in hospital after a serious crash on the A768 in Loanhead. The incident happened around 7am on Tuesday, 19 December at Knivensknowe Road and involved the man, who was a pedestrian, and a Honda Civic car.

The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died as a result of injuries yesterday (Saturday, 23 December).

He was walking his dog at the time of the collision which has also since passed away.

The male driver of the car did not require medical treatment.

Sergeant Grant Hastie of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our investigation into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We would urge anyone who may have information which not yet been passed to police to come forward.

“In particular we are working to identify two people who were at a bus stop near where the incident happened at the time and would urge them to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101 with reference number 0499 of 19 December.”

Appeal for information following fatal crash on the City Bypass

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the A720 at Dreghorn yesterday.

Around 12.50pm on Thursday, 21 December, police were called to a report of a three vehicle crash on the City Bypass involving a white Ford Kuga and two HGVs.

Emergency services attended and the 68-year-old female driver of the Kuga was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 37-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man, who were passengers in the car, were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

The road was closed while investigations were carried out and fully re-opened around 3.35pm.

Sergeant Paul Ewing said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died as a result of this crash.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I would ask anyone who witnessed the crash or the car prior to the crash, who have not already spoken to police to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to get in touch.”

Fatal road crash at Hermiston Gait: Police appeal

Road Policing Officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a fatal road crash on the M8 yesterday (Monday, 18 December, 2023).

Around 9.10am, we received a report of a collision involving a MAN HGV and a Kia Sorento on the westbound M8, near to junction one, Hermiston Gait.

Emergency services attended and a 41-year-old woman, the driver of the Kia Sorento, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed until around 6.35pm, to allow an investigation to be carried out.

Road Policing Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was on the motorway at the time and may have seen the crash, to please contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cams or recording equipment to check their footage for anything that could assist us.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0761 of 18 December, 2023.”

Man injured on Saughton Road North: Witness Appeal

POLICE in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man was found with serious injuries. The 63-year-old was found around 1.45am on Saturday, 16 December at Saughton Road North.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish how he came to be injured.

Detective Constable Alistair Hutton said: “We would urge anyone who believes they may have information or who perhaps came to the man’s aid to get in touch.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 1222 of 16 December.”

Vandalism in St Andrew Square: Police release CCTV images

Officers in Edinburgh have released images of a man they would like to speak to as part of an ongoing investigation into an incident that involved vandalism within St Andrew Square.

The incident happened at about 4.50pm last Saturday (9 December, 2023).

The man in the images is described as white and aged between 20 – 30 years old with short brown hair. He was wearing a flat cap, knee-length coat, blue jeans and carrying a backpack.

Anyone who can help in identifying and tracing the man should report this to Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2618 of 9 December, 2023.

Serious assault on George Street: Do you recognise this man?

Detectives in Edinburgh have released images of a man that they believe may have information that can assist with an ongoing investigation into a serious assault which took place at around 10.30pm on Saturday 18th November 2023 at George Street near to North Castle Street, Edinburgh.

The man police believe may be able to assist is described as white and in his 30s with dark-coloured hair. He was wearing a blue and white tie dye t-shirt, with jeans, and black and white trainers.

Detective Constable Christina Yeoman of Gayfield CID said: “This was an unprovoked attack at a busy time of night in the city centre.

“Violent crime such as this is of the utmost concern to police in Edinburgh so I would urge the male or anyone who recognises him to contact us as soon as possible through 101 quoting incident number 743 of 20 November.

“Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

Police seek witnesses to Slateford Road incident

Road policing officers are appealing for information after a pedestrian was injured in a crash in Edinburgh. The incident happened on Slateford Road at the junction with Moat Street, around 5.15pm on Sunday, 26 November.

A 64-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and sustained injuries to his head and legs.

The driver of the red vehicle involved initially stopped to assist the man and later left the scene prior to emergency services attending.

Constable Adam Brearley said: “Enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for witnesses and the driver of the red vehicle to come forward.

“We’re looking to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or saw the vehicles before or during the crash.

“Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2447 of Sunday, 26 November, 2023.”

Greendykes gunshots two weeks on: Can you help?

Officers investigating shots being fired in Edinburgh have revisited the scene two weeks on.

Around 10.15am on Thursday, 2 November, 2023, Police were called to a report of shots being fired at a block of flats on Greendykes Road in the city.

Officers carried out enquiries at the time and identified shots were also fired towards the same building, about 4.30am the same morning.

There were no injuries during either incident, however windows were damaged.

This continues to be treated as a targeted attack.

Yesterday morning, officers from Gayfield CID returned to the area as part of their enquiries.

Detectives spoke to a number of motorists and pedestrians in an attempt to jog their memories and gain additional information that could help trace two people on bicycles in the area around the time of both incidents.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat said: “The response from the public has been encouraging and information gained yesterday, and over the last two weeks, will no doubt assist in our enquiry to identify the suspects.

“I am again appealing to anyone who has any information which may assist us and who hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could be relevant.”

Police appeal following fatal crash on Gorgie Road

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal crash on Gorgie Road yesterday (Tuesday 14 November 2023).

The incident took place around 1.05pm, involving an HGV and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick, from the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident and would appeal to anyone who was in the Gorgie Road or Calder Road area around the time of the crash to please come forward.

“If you have any information, or potential dashcam footage, which could assist our enquiries, please call police on 101, quoting incident 1457 of 14 November.”

Appeal for information following Greendykes gunshots

Police are appealing for information after a number of gunshots were fired in Edinburgh.

Around 10.15am yesterday (Thursday, 2 November), police were called to a report of shots being fired at block of flats on Greendykes Road . Subsequent enquiries have identified shots were also fired towards the property around 3.05am the same morning.

There were no injuries in either incident, however windows were damaged.

This is being treated as a targeted attack.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat, Gayfield CID, said: “Whilst this may have been intended as a targeted attack, the fact is that a number of shots were fired indiscriminately. The second incident was in broad daylight and there were people in the street at the time.

“Thankfully no one was injured but this was a reckless act with no regard for members of the public.

“It is imperative that we find those responsible and for that we need the help of the local community.

“I know that people may be reluctant to come forward and so I would encourage the use of Crimestoppers where information can be given anonymously.

“Officers have been in the area since the attack checking CCTV and speaking to local residents.

“From our enquiries so far we believe that there was male on an electric motorcycle with a pillion passenger around the time of both incidents. On the second occasion they were seen to make off towards Craigmillar Castle Avenue.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who has private CCTV or doorbell camera footage, or from motorists driving on Greendykes Road or the surrounding roads between 3am and 3.30am, and 10am and 10.30am. Their footage could prove very useful to our enquiry.

“High visibility officers remain on patrol in the area, and I would urge people to speak to officers with regard to any concerns or provide information.”
