Police appeal for information following fatal road crash on A1

Road Police officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash in East Lothian.

Around 3.05pm on Sunday (15 October 2023), emergency services were called to the A1 between Dunbar and Cockburnspath following a crash between a silver Nissan Pixo and a silver Volkswagen Passat.

The driver of the Nissan, 87-year-old John Paul from Duns, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died earlier today (Tuesday, 17 October).

Sergeant Barry Sommerville said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with John’s family at this difficult time. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”

Appeal for information after man found seriously injured in Calder Road

POLICE are appealing for information after a man was found seriously injured in the Calder Road area yesterday (Sunday, 19 March, 2023).

The 30-year-old man was found unconscious in Calder Road underpass around 12.05am.

He is described as white, male, average build, 5ft 10 ins with brown hair. At the time he was wearing jeans, grey hoodie and white Converse trainers. He could have been walking west on Calder Road near to Saughton Mains Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Alan Sharp said: “There is nothing at this time to suggest that any crime has taken place, however we are carrying out enquiries to find out how the man came about his injuries.

“I’d appeal to anyone who saw a man matching the above description walking in the Calder Road, Saughton area, or drivers with dash-cam footage who may have passed him as he was walking home to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 0064 of March 19.”

Police appeal for witnesses following fatal collision on City Bypass

We are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the Edinburgh City Bypass. The incident happened around 1.10pm on Tuesday (20 December) on the A720 westbound near to the Sheriffhall roundabout.

It involved two cars, a silver Renault Captur and a grey Skoda Karoq.

The driver of the Renault, a 66-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.

The road was closed while crash investigation work was carried out and fully re-opened around 4.40pm.

Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and our investigation to find out the full circumstances of what happened continues.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has dash-cam footage that could help with our enquiries to get in touch.

Serious assault at Stenhouse Cross

POLICE are appealing for information following a serious assault in Edinburgh.

The incident happened around 10.10pm on Monday (19 Decembe, 2022) on Stenhouse Cross. A 21-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to serious injuries.

Three vehicles, a dark coloured grey saloon, a white Ford Transit van and a dark coloured Mercedes Vito van are linked to the incident. All three vehicles were driving east on Stenhouse Drive prior to the incident and continued in the direction of Gorgie Road following the assault.

As part of their enquiries into the incident, officers are also seeking information on the Ford Transit Van found burnt out on Torduff Road around 8am on Tuesday, 20 December, which officers believe to be linked to the assault.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait of Edinburgh CID said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to the assault at Stenhouse Cross or who may have seen the vehicles before or after, particularly in the Gorgie Road and Stenhouse area, to come forward.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a Ford Transit van with roof ladders in and around the Torduff Road area in the early hours of this morning and in particular drivers who may have dash-cam footage.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 3568 of Monday, 19 December, 2022.”

Police appeal following serious road crash on Seafield Road

Police are appealing for information after a serious road crash in Edinburgh on Sunday (24 October).

Around 4.15pm on Sunday afternoon, a road crash took place on Seafield Road involving a Nissan Juke and a Volvo V40.

Emergency services attended and the 85 year-old female driver of the Volvo, her 87-year-old male passenger, and the 32-year-old male driver of the Nissan were all taken by Ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Hospital staff describe the condition of the 87-year-old man as critical, the condition of the 85-year-old woman as serious but stable, and the 32-year-old man as serious but stable.

Sergeant Iain McIntyre of the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Dalkeith is appealing for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with dash-cam footage to contact 101 quoting reference number 2518 of 24 October.

Witness appeal following serious road crash at Hermiston Gait

Road policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a motorbike crashed near the Hermiston Gait roundabout, just off the A720 city bypass.

The incident happened around 9.30am this morning (Wednesday 11 August) when two motorbikes, a blue BMW RT1200 and a black Harley Davidson, were travelling on the roundabout near the slip road towards the Calder Road junction. 

The BMW motorbike left the roadway, ending up on the grass verge.  The 49-year old male rider was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with a serious leg injury.

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “We are trying to establish what has happened to cause this motorbike to leave the road and to clarify if any other vehicles were involved. 

“We are keen to speak to anyone driving in the area at the time. We would also appeal to anyone with dash-cam footage that may help with our collision investigation to get in touch.
