Witness appeal following road collision on Craigmillar Park

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY HGV

POLICE are appealing for information following a collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV in South Edinburgh.

Around 6.15pm last night (Sunday, 2 March, 2025), the 55-year-old man was struck by the Volvo lorry on the A701, Craigmillar Park, near the junction with Lygon Road.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

The HGV did not stop at the scene but was later traced, as was the 37-year-old male driver.

The A701 was closed while crash investigations were carried out and reopened around 10.15pm.

Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Edinburgh Road Policing Constable Mhairi Deuchar said: “I’m appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information about what happened, to contact us.

“I’d also ask drivers with dashcams who were in the area at the time to please review your footage and bring anything you think may be significant to our attention.”

Underpass bike theft: Police appeal

POLICE are appealing for information after a man had his bike stolen in Edinburgh on Friday (14 February 2025).

Around 5.25pm, the 33-year-old man was walking through Telfer subway underpass when he was approached by another man who verbally threatened him and stole his bike.

The suspect is in his early 20s, around 5ft. 10 inches in height, with an average build. He was wearing a grey/blue coloured tracksuit with grey and white coloured footwear.

The male had his hood up and was concealing his face with a black face covering. He was also carrying a grey shoulder bag.

The suspect cycled over the Western Approach Road towards Dalry.

The bike is a yellow, Canyon Speedmax CF8, with all black wheels.

Officers are continuing to review relevant CCTV images from in and around the area for any additional details.

Detective Constable Lindsay Johnston said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the theft to think back and consider if they saw anything suspicious or perhaps saw the suspect on the bike.

“I would also ask anyone with dash-cam equipment to check their images as they could have captured footage with could assist us in identifying the suspect.”

Police appeal for information following Leith fire

Detectives are appealing for information following a fire in Leith.

The fire happened around 12am this morning (Sunday, 16 February, 2025) at a block of flats on Prince Regent Street.

There were no reported injuries.

Detective Constable Luke Wilson said: “The fire is being treated as wilful and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact us.

“We also ask anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time to come forward.”

Police appeal following serious crash on Howden Hall Road

Road Policing officers are appealing for information following a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the A701 Howden Hall Road near the junction with Alnwickhill Road, around 2.20pm yesterday – Thursday, 6 February 2025.

The pedestrian, an 89-year-old woman, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to be treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the Land Rover was not injured.

The road was closed for around three hours to allow for investigations to be carried out.

Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist our enquiries to contact us.”

Police appeal following serious crash in Penicuik

POLICE are appealing for information following a serious injury collision on Bog Road, Penicuik yesterday (Sunday, January 19, 2025).

Around 3.20pm, police received a report of a collision involving three children, aged 11, 12 and 13, and a Volkswagen T-Cross on Bog Road, Penicuik.

Emergency services attended and an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Edinburgh where medical staff confirmed their injuries as serious. The 12-year-old girl was uninjured.

The road was closed to allow for collision investigators to examine the location.

Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing as we work to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

“Anyone with any information or dash cam footage should get in contact, no matter how insignificant it may seem.”

Dangerous driving in Saughton Road North: Witness Appeal

Road Policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information and witnesses following an incident of dangerous driving in the Saughton Road North area.

Officers are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a Honda Civic speeding at 82mph and overtaking numerous vehicles into oncoming traffic.

Enquiries so far have established the video was uploaded on Monday, 6 January, 2025.

Enquiries to trace the vehicle and identify the driver are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Constable Alexander Marshall, from the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit, said: “This was an extremely irresponsible and reckless act, not only to be speeding at over 80mph in a 20mph zone, but to also use a mobile phone filming yourself while doing so.

“Putting the public at risk in such a manner will not be tolerated.”

Missing woman Santra Saju last seen at Almondvale

POLICE in Edinburgh are continuing to appeal for information to help trace 22-year-old Santra Saju missing from the South Gyle area.

Enquiries have confirmed that Santra was in Asda at Almondvale, Livingston on Friday, 6 December 2024 between 9.10pm and 9.45pm. She had previously been in the Burnvale area of Livingston around 8.30pm the same evening.

Santra is described as 5ft 6 inches, of Indian ethnicity, slim build, with short black hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket with a fur hood.

Inspector Alison Lawrie from Corstorphine Police Station said: “We now know that Santra picked up a black and white shopper style bag from an address in Burnvale on Friday evening, but she did not have it when she entered the supermarket. The bag is distinctive and someone may remember seeing her carrying it.

“We are continuing to review CCTV footage and have released images of Santra from the supermarket in the hope that someone recognises her.

“Extensive enquiries are being carried out in an effort to trace her. If you have any information please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3390 of Sunday, 15 December 2024.”

Police appeal following serious crash on George Street

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a serious crash in Edinburgh city centre.

Around 1.50pm yesterday (Sunday, 8 December, 2024), police received a report of a crash involving a 63-year-old male pedestrian and a double decker bus on George Street.

Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. There were no reports of any other injuries.

The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and re-opened around 9pm.

Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: “Our enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us.”

Appeal for information following an attempted robbery in Wester Hailes

Detectives are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Wester Hailes.

Around 11pm on Friday, 15 November, 2024, two men approached a vehicle on Hailesland Road, threatened the driver, demanded money from him and damaged the vehicle. The men then got into a light-coloured car and drove along Murrayburn Road in the direction of Longstone Road.

Detective Constable William Doughty said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the men responsible.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the incident or noticed anything suspicious, to come forward.

“Additionally, we urge anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to review it and bring anything significant to our attention.”

Police issue witness appeal following Gilmerton Road assault and robbery

POLICE are appealing for information after an assault and robbery on Gilmerton Road on Monday (18 November, 2024).

Around 10.30pm, police and ambulance were called to a report of a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old man injured after a man entered their Mercedes B-class vehicle on Gilmerton Road and assaulted them.

The injured men got out of the vehicle leaving the suspect within. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Gilmerton Road.

They were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and treated for their injuries. The 24-year-old man was released after treatment.

Detective Sergeant James Palmer said: “Enquiries are ongoing in and around the Gilmerton Road area to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and trace the stolen car.

“I would urge anyone who was in this area between 10pm and 10.30pm on Monday night who witnessed anything relevant to this enquiry or has dashcam footage that may assist to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who has seen or has any information on the whereabouts of the Mercedes Benz with the registration number YK59 UTX to get in touch. The car may have damage to the front.”
