Appeal after cyclist assaulted on Blackhall cycle path 

Police are appealing for information and witnesses, following the serious assault of a cyclist on Blackhall Cycle Path, near to Davidson Mains.

The incident took place around 6.05pm on Tuesday, 2 September, 2025. The cyclist, a 46-year-old man, was cycling away from the Drylaw area on his green vintage-style Dutch bike.

The suspect was riding an offroad dirt bike and is described as white, around 5ft 10 and slim build, but their gender is unknown. They were wearing a black full-face helmet and black puffer jacket.

Detective Sergeant Rob Finch said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area or witnessed this attack to please come forward.

“Enquiries have established that two members of the public provided aid to the victim, so would ask them to contact police as soon as possible.

“Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident 1961 of 3 September, 2025. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”

Appeal for witnesses to cycle path jewellery robbery

Police are appealing for information after a woman was robbed of jewellery on the cycle path in Boswall on Saturday evening.

At around 6.30pm on Saturday (17 October), a 39-year-old woman was walking along the cycle path between Wardie Road and Granton Road, when she was approached by a man on a bike who, after a short conversation, demanded her watch and diamond rings before riding off towards Drylaw.

The woman was not injured but has been left shaken by the incident.

The suspect is described as white, of medium build, with short dark hair and had a local accent. He was wearing a blue surgical face mask, dark coloured cotton tracksuit top and bottoms. He was on a dark coloured bike with no lights.

Detective Constable Peter Lyons, Costorphine CID, Edinburgh, said: “Whilst the watch and jewellery have a combined value of approximately a four-figure sum of money, it’s more their sentimental value – especially the lady’s engagement and eternity rings – that is upsetting for her.

“She was on the walkway which goes between Wardie Road and Granton Road and was just approaching the Wardie Road exit when she was approached by the man.

“This can be a busy thoroughfare and I am sure there would have been people about who either saw the robbery or who may have seen the man on the bike hanging about the area.

“Officers are checking CCTV at the moment to try an identify the thief, however, would appeal to anyone who may have information that will assist their investigation to come forward.

Man sexually assaulted on North Edinburgh cycle path

Police are investigating following the rape of a 36 year old man in North Edinburgh. The serious sexual assault took place early on Monday morning on the cycle path near Ainslie Park Leisure Centre.

A police cordon was put in place by police officers who carried out an investigation at the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating a report that a 36-year-old man was the victim of a serious sexual assault in the Pilton area in the early hours of Monday, 28 October.”

No further details are available at this time.

Cycle path attack: Public praised following E-fit appeal

Police in Edinburgh have once again praised the public response following a re-appeal for information into an indecent assault in the Roseburn area.

Between 5.35am and 6am on Monday 10th September, a 27-year-old woman was attacked on the cycle path that runs across Roseburn Terrace, as she cycled from the Drylaw area.

On Monday, officers released an E-Fit image of a man they wish to trace in connection with this investigation and received a handful of new calls as a result.
Information provided by these callers is now being progressed by the dedicated inquiry team and anyone who believes they may be able to assist the investigation, but has yet to contact police, is asked to do so immediately.

Detective Sergeant David Brady from Edinburgh’s Public Protection Unit said: “Following our initial appeal for information, we received numerous calls and pieces of information, all of which has been of great benefit to this inquiry. The release of the E-Fit image resulted in eight new calls to police and these have given us new lines of investigation to pursue.

“I want to thank our communities for their continued support and assistance. I would urge anyone who may be able to provide further information, either in relation to the attack or the man pictured in the E-Fit, to come forward and speak with us, if they have not already done so.”

Police seek three men following cycle path robbery

Police have appealed for witnesses after a teenager was assaulted and robbed on Blackhall cycle path on Wednesday evening.

police (2)The 16 year old youth was walking home and joined the cycle path at Wester Coates Terrace when he saw three males standing at the bridge area. He was approached by the trio who then grabbed and punched him to the head and face before stealing his mobile phone and rucksack.

Officers are urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, late teens, 5ft 10ins tall with a skinny build, gaunt face and a short dark hair. He was wearing a read and white ‘snood’, dark cotton tracksuit, black gloves and spoke with a local accent.

The second and third suspects are both described as white, in their late teens, around 5ft 11ins tall with slim builds and wearing dark cotton tracksuits.

All three wore their hoods up during the robbery.

Detective Constable Chris Harding said: “The young victim was not seriously injured as a result of this incident but is understandably upset at the theft of his belongings. Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity on the cycle path on Wednesday evening is asked to contact police immediately.

“I would also ask that anyone who can help us identify the suspects or who has any other information relevant to our enquiry also gets in touch. Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
