Sharing information with Living in Harmony

I’m writing to invite you to the next Living in Harmony forum meeting on

WEDNESDAY 6 APRIL from 10am -1pm

at Pilton Community Health Project, 73 Boswall Parkway.

The theme for the meeting is community information, and there will be short talks from local organisations as well as city wide agencies that work specifically with BME groups.

The meeting will be useful to residents – especially if they have recently moved to the area – and to workers who would like to update themselves on what is on offer locally and city wide. There will be opportunities to network in an organised and informal way, and we will finish with a Nepalese lunch together – again with the hope of people having the opportunity to chat.

I’m attaching a draft agenda to give you an idea of what will be happening, as well as a poster. I would appreciate it if you could invite residents who might find it particularly useful.

Community Conference: now it’s time for action

Action Groups formed based on community priorities

Five new Action Groups have been formed following last month’s community conference at Craigroyston Community High School.

The conference, organised by Community Action North and Granton Improvement Society supported by Craigroyston High School’s Community Centre, gave local people an opportunity to identify the main issues affecting the area. Participants then worked in small groups to look in detail at these topics and went on to form Action Groups to work with others to find short, medium and longer term solutions to the area’s problems.

The Action Groups are:

  • Big Picture (Economy, Employment & Decision Making)
  • Community Spaces & Environment
  • Crime & Community Safety
  • Housing
  • Youth

More than fifty local people took part in the event and it’s hoped that many more with attend a follow up event in the autumn.

A spokesperson for the conference organisers said: “The weather on the day was really dreadfully so we were delighted that so many people made the effort to attend. There was a lot of enthusiasm and many ideas were generated at the conference and the Action Groups will now take these ideas forward and plan the way ahead. There are lots of changes happening in the area just now and it’s important that local people are involved and have a say in the decisions that affect their lives.”

 Zoo Arts Exhibition opens at North Edinburgh Arts

Zoo Arts has been exploring the themes of portraiture, the face and masks over the last eight weeks (writes Kirsty Reynolds).

We’ve manipulated, embellished and transformed our faces in our weekly sessions, using them as a base for self expression and character creation. This exhibition is a showcase of some of our experiments involving the face and how we have played with altering it using drawing, collage, costume and photography.

North Edinburgh Young People’s Forum would like to invite you along to the launch of a Community Rights Respecting Community Charter launch in partnership with Total Craigroyston tonight at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre from 6 – 7pm .

We really hope everyone can make it along and help us to send out a clear message on bullying, support, and various other items/issues associated with our rights as young people, and hopefully everyone can sign the charter in support of the message we are trying to send. There will also be some discussion in regards to how we as a community can take this forward and what you want us to do next with the charter.

It’s no yolk – Spartans aim to top 300!

Spartans Community Football Academy have launched their annual Easter Egg Collection – and the Ainslie Park-based team are once again aiming to ensure that no local child goes without an Easter Egg this year.

The Academy donated over 400 chocolate Easter Eggs to local food banks last Spring – an eggstraordinary total! – and they have set a target of reaching at least 300 again this year.

Can they make it? You can do your bit to help by laying  donating an egg at the Academy at Ainslie Park by next Thursday (24 March)!
