Road policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a crash involving an electric scooter and a car, which took place on Gorgie Road.
The incident happened around 8.20pm last night (Saturday, 18 September) at the junction with Stenhouse Drive. The male rider of the electric scooter was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
The car involved failed to stop at the scene and officers are appealing for witnesses or any information to help trace it. It is described as being blue or silver in colour.
Constable Neill Sage, from the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit, said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident and are keen to trace the driver of the car involved.
“If you witnessed the crash, or have any possible dashcam footage from the Gorgie Road area last night, please call police on 101, quoting incident 3709 of 18 September.”
More than 100 roadside drug screening tests were conducted during a Drug Driving Campaign carried out by Police Scotland.
The campaign ran from August 23 to 29 when officers conducted a total of 109 roadside drug screening tests across Scotland, resulting in 42 drivers being arrested for providing a positive test. Blood samples were subsequently obtained from those arrested and sent for further analysis.
Officers from Greater Glasgow Road Policing, who deployed in support of the campaign observed a man driving using his mobile phone. When stopped he admitted to having consumed cannabis and the subsequent roadside drug test was positive for cannabis and cocaine. Following his arrest, a blood sample was obtained and submitted for analysis.
Superintendent Simon Bradshaw said: “Despite roadside drug testing being in place for almost two years and our continued efforts to raise awareness of the dangers associated with taking drugs and driving, our officers continue to detect drug driving offences far too regularly.
“Driving after taking drugs can have serious or even fatal consequences, impacting not only the driver but all those involved including family and friends.
“Police Scotland are committed to taking action against those who selfishly put others at risk by driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs. I would encourage people to report drink or drug drivers or concerning behaviour to us, officers will act on this information to stop offenders before they injure or kill themselves or someone else.”
Police are appealing for information to help find a woman reported missing from the local area.
Leanne Reilly, 45, was reported missing from the Telford Road area around 2.10pm yesterday (Monday, 13 September). She was last seen in the Gorgie, Slateford area around 2.30pm on Sunday, 12 September.
Leanne is described as being around 5ft 6in height, of medium build, with long black hair and glasses. There is no current description of her clothing, however she is believed to be in possession of a pink suitcase.
Inspector Keith Scott said: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Leanne’s welfare and are keen to find her as soon as possible.
“We would appeal to anyone with information on her whereabouts or anyone who has seen anyone matching her description to get in touch.”

A 36 year old man has been arrested after five people were hit by a car in Edinburgh city centre in the early hours of this morning.He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.
Police Scotland received reports of the pedestrians being struck on Rose Street, near its junction with Frederick Street, at about 00:40 this morning.
Two men, aged 39 and 60-years old, and three women, aged 37, 22 and 65, were all taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
All five are in a ‘stable’ condition.
The car failed to stop at the scene and continued on to Lothian Road where it was involved in a crash with another vehicle. No further people were injured.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.
Lothian Road remains closed up to the West Approach Road junction.
Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Edinburgh.
Around 7.55pm on Friday, 3 September, 2021, police received a report a 70-year-old man was struck by a car in Gorgie Road, near Robertson Avenue, in Edinburgh. Enquiries so far have established that two cars, a silver Jaguar and black BMW, were travelling east at this location when the pedestrian was struck.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital. Both drivers initially stopped, but the driver of the silver Jaguar, left the scene before police arrived.
Constable Denise Gall, of Dalkeith Road Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch. In particular, if anyone has a dash cam device, please check your footage as your images could assist our investigation.
“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3131 of 3 September, 2021.”

Crimestoppers Scotland is offering a reward and appealing for anonymous information in connection with the historic case of the murder of Shona Stevens.
Shona was brutally attacked on 10th November 1994 near her home at Irvine, in North Ayrshire. She was aged 31 at the time and died three days later as a result of severe head injuries.
The mother of one had left the Co-op store at Bourtreehill Shopping Centre at lunchtime. She was last seen at around 1. 10pm on Towerlands Road. Her body was sadly found nearby in a wooded area around ten minutes later.

Yesterday saw the first of Police Scotland’s events to mark World Suicide Prevention Day which is on Friday (10th September).
We are grateful to Veterans First Point Lothian and Ithrive Edinburgh who joined us at Whitefoord House and also at the Gyle Shopping Centre to raise awareness of the support available to people affected by suicide.
