Motorcyclist who died in Queensferry Road crash named

Road Policing officers are continuing to appeal for information following a fatal crash on the A90 Queensferry Road, Edinburgh.
 
Around 11.15pm on Tuesday, 8 April, 2025, officers were made aware of a crash involving a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Peugeot 306. Emergency services attended and the 61-year-old motorcyclist, Ian Harrower from Rosyth, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The 31-year-old male driver of the car has now been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. Further enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.


 
Ian’s family have issued the following statement through Police Scotland:

“Ian was a much loved son to Elizabeth, brother to Elaine and dad to Lewis, Kim and Owen. He was a loving husband to Norah and stepdad to Gavin and will be very much missed grandad to Brooke and Taylor. 
 
“He was a true and loyal friend to many and will always be in our hearts never to be forgotten.”
 
Sergeant Paul Ewing added: “We would like to thank the public for their assistance with our investigation and our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Harrower.

Witness appeal following hit and run on Colinton Road

ROAD Policing officers are appealing for information following a hit and run in Edinburgh yesterday – Saturday, 15 March, 2025.

The incident involving a cyclist and a black BMW happened on Colinton Road at the junction with Tipperlinn Road, Edinburgh, around 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

The BMW left the scene prior to officers attending and headed south along Tipperlinn Road and enquiries are ongoing to trace it.

The 55-year-old male cyclist was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Constable Neill Sage said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who have not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in that area around the time and who may have dash-cam of private CCTV footage which would assist us to contact us.”

Muirhouse Parkway hit and run: Man to appear in court

Around 4.10pm yesterday (Sunday, 14 April), police received a report of a crash involving a 63-year-old female pedestrian and a car on Muirhouse Parkway.

“The woman was taken to The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

“The car left the scene before officers arrived.

“A 61-year-old man was later traced and arrested. Enquiries are ongoing.”

THE man was was subsequently charged and he is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow (Tuesday, 16 April, 2024).

Police appeal following hit and run on Gilmerton Road

POLICE are appealing for information following a hit and run on Gilmerton Road on Tuesday, 27 February, 2024. The incident happened around 4pm between Walter Scott Avenue and Redgauntlet Terrace.

A 12-year-old boy was struck by a small silver or grey coloured car that stopped initially but then made off. The boy was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Police Constable Claire Mitchell said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the car involved in this incident and we are asking anyone with information to come forward.

“The area was busy at the time with both traffic and pedestrians so anyone with information is asked to call us.”

“In particular, if you have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist officers with their enquiries then please get in touch.

Appeal for information following hit and run in Lochend

Police are appealing for information following a hit and run involving a car and a pedestrian.

A man was waking within Lochend Park, around 8.15pm on Sunday, 2 April, 2023, when he was struck by a black Audi.

Emergency services attended and the 21-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. The car left the scene prior to police arrival.

Around 8.45pm on Sunday, 2 April, 2023 a black Audi was found on Maplewood Park, with an attempt made to set it alight.

There were no reports of any injuries and the vehicle was uplifted.

Officers believe this vehicle may be linked to the earlier incident.

Acting Detective Inspector Steven Gray from Gayfield CID said: “Our enquiries into both these incidents, which we believe are linked, are ongoing.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the initial crash or a vehicle leaving the scene, who has not already spoken to us to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone with any information on the car in Maplewood Park or who has dash cam footage which may assist us to get in touch.”

Easter Road hit and run: man arrested

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit and run incident in Edinburgh.

The incident, which involved a car and a pedestrian happened at around 2.40am yesterday (Sunday, 19 June) in Easter Road.

The 21-year old male pedestrian was taken to The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment for serious injuries.

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg said : “A young man sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision to come forward.

“I would also appeal to anyone who has any dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist with our investigation.

Appeal following hit and run involving a cyclist and van on Old Dalkeith Road

Road Policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a hit-and-run crash on Old Dalkeith Road.

The incident took place at the junction with Walter Scott Road, around 11.35am yesterday (Saturday, 28 May, 2022). It involved a cyclist and a van, which did not stop at the scene.

The cyclist, a 39-year-old woman, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment for serious injuries. 

Enquiries to trace the vehicle, which is believed to a small white van or similar, are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.   

Constable Gary Barkham, from Edinburgh Road Policing, said: “We are asking for anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash, or anyone with information on the vehicle involved, to please get in touch. Any information could prove useful to our investigation.

Police appeal for witnesses following Westside Plaza hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was hit by a car at Westside Plaza, in Wester Hailes. The incident happened around 9.30am yesterday (Thursday 14 April 2022) and is being treated as attempted murder.

The 45-year-old is currently in a serious condition in The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Detective Inspector George Calder from CID at Corstorphine Police Station said: “The vehicle did not stop after the incident, but has now been recovered by officers, we are still trying to trace the occupants.

“We appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or has dash cam footage of the incident to come forward.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0742 of 14 April 2022.”

Police appeal following hit and run on City Bypass

Road policing officers are appealing for information after a man was hit by a car which failed to stop on the Edinburgh City Bypass. The incident happened on the A720 westbound near the Lothianburn Junction shortly after 1.15am this morning (Sunday 3 October).

The 31-year-old man had stopped his Volkswagen car on the on-slip road to repair a puncture when he was struck by a vehicle. This vehicle failed to stop and continued on the City Bypass in the direction of the Dreghorn Junction.

The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to serious injuries.The road reopened shortly before 4am following an investigation.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Following our investigation at the scene, we believe the vehicle involved is in this incident was a white Audi Q3 or Q4 car and it will have obvious collision damage to the front bodywork.

“I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen a vehicle matching this description or something similar to get in touch.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who was on the City Bypass early on Sunday morning and may have dashcam footage to come forward.“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0282 of 3 October.”

Five injured in Rose Street hit and run incident

Driver arrested – due in court tomorrow

A 36 year old man has been arrested after five people were hit by a car in Edinburgh city centre in the early hours of this morning. He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Police Scotland received reports of the pedestrians being struck on Rose Street, near its junction with Frederick Street, at about 00:40 this morning.

Two men, aged 39 and 60-years old, and three women, aged 37, 22 and 65, were all taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

All five are in a ‘stable’ condition.

The car failed to stop at the scene and continued on to Lothian Road where it was involved in a crash with another vehicle. No further people were injured.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Lothian Road remains closed up to the West Approach Road junction.
