EVOC AGM and conference to focus on place

Compact Voice, the latest guide to Edinburgh’s third sector and it’s work with public service partners, has been launched. The report is packed with facts and figures about the capital’s voluntary sector: how it is made up, how it organises itself, how it is funded and Compact Voice also covers current concerns and issues for the sector. Well worth a read.

Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council’s (EVOC) annual general meeting and conference takes place on Tuesday 7 November from 9am – 2pm. There are still a handful of places available, so sign up for your free place now!

This year’s Conference will focus on how we use constructed space to think differently, collaborate and participate. Keynote speakers are city council leader Councillor Adam McVey and Diarmaid Lawlor of Architecture & Design Scotland.

Workshops on the day are:

  • Prevention Within the Context of Grants Review and Funding Cuts*
  • Good Governance – Doing Things Right Means Doing the Right Things
  • Participatory Budgeting an Effective Tool for Community Engagement?
  • Social (in)security

*We have updated our workshop on setting up a Commission on Prevention to look specifically at prevention in the context of funding and grants, in light of the review of the Health and Social Care grants programme.

Edinburgh Compact: your voice matters

We’ve launched our annual survey of Edinburgh’s Third Sector organisations and community groups.

We want to hear your views on the Sector, a bit about your your organisation, and how decisions on budget and service delivery in the Public Sector affect your organisation and the people you work with.

By better understanding our sector and how we interact with each other and our colleagues in the public and statutory sectors, we can identify successful strategies for collaborative working and potential new projects. We can use this information to make informed recommendations not only back to our sector, but also out to key constituents in the run up to Local Government elections.

It won’t take you long to complete, and we very much appreciate your input.

Compact Third Sector Forum 2016

TWO DAYS TO GO!

The Edinburgh Compact Partnership brings together key Public Sector partners and a range of Third Sector partners under the overarching principle: In Equal Respect.
Many third sector organisations working across the City will be aware of substantial changes taking place across our communities. Key demographic and financial pressures mean that both public and third sector organisations are now required to think differently about the way services are delivered.

This year’s Forum is based upon the twin themes of transformation and maximising assets. The forum will provide an opportunity to consider the issues affecting the City and how we, in partnership, can respond to and effectively deal with these challenges in a sustainable balanced way while continuing to provide good quality and valued services to our citizens.

The Forum will be highly interactive and will take the form of a ‘conversation-cafe’ to consider:

  • Session 1: Citizens at the Centre – Transforming public services in the City;

  • Session 2: Citizens at the Centre – Maximising assets for community benefit.

Product from the event will be included within the annual report to the Council’s Communities and Neighbourhoods Committee on the social and economic contribution to the city. The Forum will also launch the Compact Voice 2015/16 Report based on the most recent Compact Voice Survey.

Booking your place – LIMITED SPACES LEFT!

For each session, there are 100 spaces available for third sector leaders and board members and these will be allocated on a first-come basis and limited to two attendees per organisation (one senior staff and one board member) only. While there is no charge for attending the event, organisations will need to directly consider any related costs for sending representatives to the Forum.

Voluntary Sector survey: still time to share your views

compact_email_bannerThe Edinburgh Compact Partnership has had a brilliant response to our 2015 Compact Survey so far – many thanks for all who have participated.

However, we still need to hear about YOUR Third Sector organisation for our Compact Voice 2015 Survey!

All the information provided from last year’s survey was published in this infographic style Compact Voice 2014/15 report. This went to the Council and other Public Sector Organisations and has helped provide Third Sector input in decision making.

The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. We know this is quite a time commitment but we promise the results will be shared widely – take the survey now.

Compact 10: planning the way ahead for Edinburgh’s third sector

Many thanks to those of you who attended one of Compact 10’s events or took part in Compact Voice over the last year. The extensive consultation carried out with 120 Third Sector and Public Sector partners through Compact 10 culminated in the launch of the Edinburgh Compact Partnership’s new Strategic Framework and Action Plan on 24 June at Edinburgh City Chambers.

The new Strategic Framework and Action Plan is ambitious, optimistic and forward thinking. Ten years since the launch of the Edinburgh Compact Partnership times have changed, however the foundation values of the Edinburgh Compact Partnership are of no less relevance today. They are:

  • Transparency
  • Accountability
  • Good communication
  • Equity
  • Respect and fairness across partners
  • Co-operation with partners, communities and citizens

There are four strands to the Strategic Framework:

  • Future Thinking
  • Resourcing and Investment
  • Community Planning and Reach
  • Thriving Third Sector

Each strand has an associated Action Plan. These strands aim to deliver Compact’s Vision of

“A City of active resilient communities where a vibrant Third Sector works in partnership with others to build social value and reduce inequalities.” 

This is the third Compact Partnership Strategy which continues to embrace a vision for the City where all sectors work together towards a shared goal of improving the quality of life for all citizens and communities.

The Third Sector Call to Action (see below) outlines just some of the ways the unique reach of Edinburgh’s Third Sector can drive achievement of the outcomes in the framework.

Edinburgh’s First Compact Third Sector Forum – last chance to book!

Cllr Maureen Child, Convenor of the Council’s Communities & Neighbourhoods Committee, would like to invite Third Sector organisations from across the city to:

Edinburgh’s First Compact Third Sector Forum
Monday 18 May 10.00am – 2pm
Edinburgh City Chambers, 253 High Street EH1 1YJ

The Forum will provide an opportunity to explore how the Compact’s vision of “A City of active resilient communities where a vibrant Third Sector works in partnership with others to build social value and reduce inequalities”, enables partners working together to face the challenges of the future, enhances coproduction approaches and improves service planning with public sector partners.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to:

  • Hear about the new Compact Strategy 2015-20
  • Explore the key issues facing the city’s third sector at city, locality and neighbourhood levels;
  • Highlight examples of good practice; and
  • Aim to build confident partnerships for the future.
