Police appeal following fatal collision on Portobello High Street

A woman has died following a crash involving a lorry and a cyclist on Portobello High Street.

The incident took place around 2.45pm yesterday (Monday, 2 November) and the 36-year-old cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Mark Banner, from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this tragic time.

“We are asking for anyone who was in the area and saw the collision take place to place come forward. If you have potential dashcam or CCTV footage in that area around 2.45pm, that could also greatly assist our enquiries.”

INCIDENT UPDATE:

THE cyclist who died after being involved in a collision with a lorry has been named as Heather Stronach.

The incident took place around 2.45pm on Monday, 2 November, on Portobello High Street heading towards Sir Harry Lauder Road. The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

Heather’s husband, Martyn Stronach, said: “Heather loved to ride her bike. I am feeling pretty lost. I have lost my best friend and my soul mate.”

The family has requested privacy at this time.

Sergeant Mark Banner, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “We are still appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, either shortly before or during, to contact us.”I’d also ask drivers who were in the area around 2.45pm to check their dash-cam footage.”

Police seek information on Gorgie stabbing

Police are appealing for information after an 18-year-old man was seriously injured in the Gorgie area. The incident happened around 5pm on Monday (19 October) when the teenager walked into a shop on Gorgie Road with a stab wound to his leg.

It’s believed the incident happened in the Westfield Court area. The 18-year-old was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

There is no description of the suspect.

Detective Sergeant Rory Legge, of Corstorphine CID, said: “This happened at a busy time of the day and we know there would’ve been a lot of traffic and people in the area.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident or saw any suspicious behaviour around the Westfield Court area just before 5pm on Monday to contact us.”

TRINITY INCIDENT UPDATE: INJURED WOMAN IDENTIFIED FOLLOWING APPEAL

Police Scotland is pleased to confirm that a woman found seriously injured in Laverockbank Road, Edinburgh, around 5.30pm on Sunday, 27 September, has now been identified.

Officers would like to thank everyone who got in touch as a result of our appeal to find out her identity.

Enquiries are continuing to find out what happened and anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3537 of Sunday, 27 September, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Yesterday’s Appeal:

Police are trying to identify a woman found seriously injured in Laverockbank Road in Trinity.

Around 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday 27 September), the woman was found injured by a member of the public lying on the pavement.

Emergency services were called and she was taken to hospital, where her condition has been described serious.

Detective Inspector Jon Pleasance, Edinburgh CID said : “We are trying to establish the identity of the woman and are needing the assistance of the public in doing so.

“The woman is described as being about late 60s, between 5’ 5” and 5’ 7” in height with short grey hair. She has a dental plate with four teeth.

“She was wearing navy coloured trousers, a white coloured vest top, a teal coloured cardigan all from Marks and Spencer.  She had a navy coloured raincoat and was wearing black shoes with a Velcro strap.

“She was wearing was a yellow and white metal ladies watch – Lorus brand. The only other possessions she had were four keys, two mortice and two padlock type keys on a brown leather fob with the word ‘Traidcraft’ written on it.

“At present we are trying to establish how this woman came about her injuries. We need to find out who she is so we can let any family  members know where she is and that she is very unwell. I would appeal to anyone who can assist in identifying her or was in the area of  Laverockbank Road area of Edinburgh yesterday afternoon to come forward.”

Police seek witnesses to Blackhall assault

Police are appealing for information following an assault of a 14 year old boy at a bus stop on Marischal Place in Blackhall. The incident occurred around 6pm on Friday evening (25th September).

Police are appealing for witnesses and any dash cam footage of the assault.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 7, aged 18 – 20, pale complexion, short dark hair, wearing a white / grey tracksuit top, black bottoms, black Nike trainers and a cross shoulder bag.

Witness appeal following Granton robbery

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Granton Mains. The incident happened around 12.10pm yesterday (Wednesday, 16 September) at the West Granton Community Shop (Sandy’s).

A man entered the shop, brandished a weapon at a member of staff and stole a four-figure sum of cash.

The suspect is described as white, with facial hair. He was wearing a cap, dark top, bottoms and trainers and a black face mask.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat said: “Thankfully no-one was injured during this incident but the staff member was left shaken. We believe the man was waiting in the vicinity prior to the incident.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and I would ask anyone who recognises the description of the suspect to come forward immediately.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any information which may be able to assist to get in touch.”

Police appeal following early hours robbery

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following an armed robbery in the city centre.

The incident happened around 2.45am yesterday (Thursday, 6 August, 2020) when a man entered the Costcutter Store on Lothian Road and threatened a member of staff with a knife. 

He then demanded money from the till drawer before leaving on foot in the direction of Princes Street with a small quantity of cash.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5ft 8in tall and of a slim build. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms, grey woollen gloves and his face was covered with black sunglasses and a red scarf.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor, of Edinburgh CID, said: “Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this incident but the member of staff has been left evidently shaken.

“Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, I would ask that if anyone noticed a man matching this description or anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in contact with police.

“I would also ask if anyone has any dashcam or CCTV footage of the surrounding area and may have information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.

Police seek witnsses to assault in The Meadows

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following an assault in the Meadows. The incident happened around 8.30pm last night (Friday 24 July) when an 18-year-old man was assaulted by four other men.

The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment of his injuries which are not thought to be serious. 

The four suspects are described as males aged between 15 to 17-years-old with brown and blonde short hair.  At the time of the incident, one was wearing black shorts and a black top, another with black trousers and one wearing a white hooded top.

Sergeant Grant Robertson, of Howdenhall Community Policing, said: “We believe this incident to be a targeted attack and would like to reassure the public that there is no threat to the wider community.

“This incident happened at a time when the park was busy with other people and I would ask that if anyone witnessed this to contact police, in particular if anyone is in possession of any mobile phone footage.

“Officers will be actively patrolling the area and engaging with the local residents and people that use the park, and as ever, we encourage anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour to report it to us.

The Mystery of the Missing Defibrillator

Police are appealing for witnesses after it was discovered that a defibrillator has been removed from its case at a premises in Leith.

This was discovered earlier this week at Constitution Street.

Sergeant Kirsty McArthur-Kerr, of the North East Community Policing Team, said: “There are several defibrillators at key locations around Edinburgh which have been funded by charities or donated for public use.

“These are a vital live saving resource and the loss of this one could have potentially fatal consequences. At the moment, we are not sure of the circumstances surrounding the defibrillator being removed from its casing, so we are appealing to the public to contact us if they have any information which may help us trace it.

“Anyone with information should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1647 of 21 July or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

King’s Stables Road incident: do you know these men?

Police have released CCTV images of two men they wish to trace in connection with an incident on King’s Stables Road at around 1.25am on Tuesday, 10 March.

It is believed the men pictured may be able to assist the investigation and the men themselves or anyone who recognises them is asked to come forward.

The first man is described as white, aged 20-30, wearing a green/grey hooded top with a blue body warmer, dark trousers and light coloured trainers.

The second man is described white, aged 20-30, wearing all dark clothing with a hood up and dark trainers with a white sole.

Detective Constable William Doughty, of Gayfield CID, said: “We are appealing for anyone who can help us identify these men to get in touch with us.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0248 of 10 March or make an anonymous report through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Barnton cyclist incident: can you help?

At about 8.30pm on Friday 19th June, a 32 year old man was cycling his dark red Genesis Hybrid pedal cycle on Barnton Avenue.

About 20 yards from the junction with Cramond Road South, the rider became unseated from his bike and sustained injuries. The exact cause of the incident is unknown, however there is the possibility that another vehicle may have been involved.

Images of the bike are attached and at this time it is unconfirmed if any other vehicles were involved.
