Police appeal following attempted murder in Pilton Avenue

Detectives are continuing enquiries and appealing for information following an attempted murder in North Edinburgh yesterday (Sunday, 23 January, 2022).

At around 10pm last night, police received a report of a road crash on Pilton Avenue involving a black BMW and an off road motorbike. Emergency services attended and one man, aged 24, was taken to hospital.

Initial enquiries established the motorcyclist was deliberately driven at, and, while on the ground, a man got out the BMW and attacked him.  Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.

The attacker ran off heading towards Pilton Place. He is white, around 5ft. 9 inches in height, slim build and aged around 30 years of age. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark coloured trousers.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury and the black BMW car has been uplifted and is undergoing a forensic examination.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and will review any relevant CCTV coverage for any additional information.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “While we do not know the motive for this assault, we believe it was a targeted attack. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us – particularly if you have any recording devices, such as dash cam or doorbell cameras.

“A police presence will remain in the area as we continue our enquiries.”

Police investigating robbery at Scotmid store in Tollcross

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a shop in Tollcross.

At around 10.45pm on Thursday, 6 January 2022, a 24-year-old man was walking on Spey Street, having finished his shift at the Scotmid store in Leven Street at 10pm.

He was then approached by two men who forced him into a blue Volkswagen Tiguan car and drove him back to the store, where they threatened him and made him open the premises.

The suspects then stole a four-figure sum of cash from the store and drove off at around 11.25pm.

Officers investigating the incident found the Tiguan, which was bearing registration number SF08 WPU, alight within Lochend Park, next to the basketball court.

It has been established that the vehicle was stolen from a break-in at the Maybury Car Sales in Turnhouse Road on 12 December 2021.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait from Edinburgh Division CID, said: “We believe that this was a targeted attack and that those responsible had been following the victim prior to approaching him and forcing him to allow them entry to his place of work.

“While this was a very frightening experience for him, thankfully he was uninjured and we are now pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to trace the suspects.

“If you recognise their description, or believe you have seen the Volkswagen Tiguan, either in the hours surrounding this incident, or in the last few weeks, then please contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any other information is also asked to come forward.”

Witness appeal following serious assault in Market Street

Detectives in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a 31-year-old woman was assaulted in the city centre.

The incident happened around 11.20pm on Sunday, 12 December, 2021, on Market Street directly underneath North Bridge outside Waverly rail station.

The woman sustained a serious head injury and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Officers are keen to speak to a man and a woman who were on the street at the time of the assault and then were seen on Jeffrey Street, going towards the Royal Mile.

The man is described as white, in his mid-30s, around 5ft 9ins, of medium build and with short dark hair. He was wearing a cream baseball cap, grey and blue padded jacket and a two tone blue hooded jumper, and blue jeans. He was carrying a plastic orange carrier bag.

The woman is described as white, also in her mid-30s, around 5ft 5ins, and of small build. She was wearing a knee length black padded jacket with the hood up and had small framed glasses.

Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe, from Edinburgh CID, said: “This part of the city was extremely busy at the time of the incident and we are appealing for anyone who was in the Market Street area and believes they may have seen what happened to come forward.

“If the man and woman see this appeal then please contact us. We are also keen to speak with any drivers in the area who may have dash-cam footage that could assist with our enquiries.

Witness appeal following Meuse Lane assault

POLICE are appealing for information after a 20-year-old man was assaulted in Edinburgh city centre on Saturday (11 December).

The incident happened around 10.10pm in Meuse Lane when the man was involved in a conversation with four men. He sustained a head injury and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance.

The four men left in the direction of St Andrew Square. They are described as white, aged between 40 and 50-years-old and spoke with Scottish accents. Two were bald, one had short, dark hair and the other was wearing a dark coloured woollen hat.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are keen to trace the men described as we believe they can help with our investigation.

Witness appeal following road accident on West Maitland Street

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was seriously injured following a road crash in Haymarket last night.

Around 9pm, the 29-year-old woman was struck by a double decker bus on West Maitland Street near Morrison Street.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where medical staff describe her condition as critical but stable.No one from the bus was injured.

Sergeant Iain McIntyre, Police Scotland, said:”The area was quite busy at the time and I’d like to thank those who came to the lady’s aid and spoke to police.

“However, I’d still ask that anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have caught the incident on their dash-cam footage, contact police. Please call officers on 101 quoting reference number 3356 of Sunday, 5 December, 2021.”

Police renew appeal one week after Gracemount attack

Detectives are continuing enquiries a week on from a man suffering serious injuries after he was assaulted in Edinburgh.

The 32-year-old was attacked by an unidentified man using a bladed weapon outside a Tesco supermarket on Gracemount Drive around 8pm on Thursday, 11 November.

He was later taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to serious injuries.

An investigation is ongoing and officers will carry out a visit to the scene of the attack this evening (Thursday, 18 November) to speak to anyone who may have been in the area the previous week.

Detective Inspector Bob Campbell said: “We are grateful to everyone who has helped our investigation so far but this was a busy area near a supermarket and we feel there may be other witnesses we have not spoken to yet.

“The male suspect left the scene after running off down Gracemount Drive before entering a dark hatchback car on Captain’s Drive and driving away.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in and around Tesco Express Gracemount Drive at the time of the attack or drivers who were on Captains Road, Gracemount Drive and Captains Drive between 7.50pm and 8.10pm on Thursday, 11 November.

“We remain keen to hear from anyone with potential dashcam footage or private CCTV from the Gracemount Drive and Captain’s Drive areas as it could prove vital to our enquiries.

“I would stress that everything in our enquiries so far suggest that this was a targeted attack and there was no wider risk to the public. However, it was a dangerous and reckless act in a busy public area and it is important we identify the man responsible.”

Annandale Street incident: Do you recognise this man?

Police Scotland has released images of a man they believe may be able to assist them in relation to an ongoing investigation into an incident which occurred on Annandale Street, near Broughton Street, at around 4pm on Friday 14 May, 2021.

The man officers wish to speak to is described as white, aged 17-20 years of age and of medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing a yellow high vis jacket, black cargo trousers and work boots.

Detective Constable Mhairi Macpherson said: “Our enquiries have been ongoing since this incident occurred and as part of our investigation, we are releasing CCTV images of a man we believe could assist us.

“I’d ask the person himself or anyone who recognises him and who can help us identify him, to contact officers.”

Police appeal following serious assault in Gracemount

Detectives in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man was attacked in the Gracemount Drive area. The incident took place around 8pm on Thursday (11 November).

The victim – a 32-year-old man – was seriously assaulted by a man outside Tesco, before making his way into the shop for assistance. He later attended the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

The suspect man was seen to break the window of a car in Tesco’s car park before running from the area and entering a dark hatchback vehicle on Captain’s Drive and driving away.

Detective Inspector Bob Campbell said: “This appears to have been a targeted attack and we do not believe there was any risk to the wider public.

“It took place in public outside a busy shop, with numerous members of the public present, so we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“We’re also keen to hear from anyone with potential dashcam footage or private CCTV from the Gracemount Drive and Captain’s Drive areas last night, as it could prove vital to our enquiries.”

Police appeal following Fishwives Causeway incident

Police in Edinburgh are continuing enquiries and appealing for information following an incident in Fishwives Causeway on Thursday (11 November).

Around 11.30 pm, a 30-year-old woman was walking along Fishwives Causeway when a man approached her from behind, took hold of her arm and tried to pull her along the pathway.

A passing cyclist intervened and the suspect ran off.

The suspect is described as white, in his 20’s, around 5ft 8, blue or grey eyes and crooked teeth. He was wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Neil Donaldson at Fettes Police Office in Edinburgh said: “This would have been a frightening and traumatic experience for the victim.

“Whilst this appears to be a rare and isolated incident we would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Fishwives Causeway around 11.30 pm on Thursday, 11 November 2021 and who may have seen a man fitting the above description”.

Witness appeal following Maybury collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision involving two vehicles at the Maybury junction last night.

The incident happened at around 6.50pm on the A8 Glasgow Road at the Maybury junction.

A blue BMW 3 Series driving east was involved in a collision with a double decker bus on the opposite side of the road just before the Maybury junction, near the Marriott Hotel.

The 52-year-old male driver of the BMW was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is in a serious condition with potentially life changing injuries.

The 44-year-old male bus driver was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with minor injuries. There were six passengers on board and one suffered minor injuries.

Inspector Roger Park, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision or has dash cam footage to contact us.”
