Morrisons extends NHS 10% discount to September

– Initial 12 week discount for NHS Heroes will be extended until the end of September –

– The move is a thank you to hard working NHS staff during the battle against the coronavirus –

Morrisons is to extend the 10% discount that NHS heroes receive on their grocery shop until the end of September.

The discount was first introduced in April and aims to support the 1.5 million NHS staff through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It is a thank you from Morrisons.

NHS staff are continuing to put themselves at risk and face numerous challenges during the Coronavirus emergency.

Morrisons is therefore to extend the discount until September 30th when it will be reviewed.

For the first time, NHS workers will also be able to gain the discount if they are ordering a home delivery through Morrisons.com. They simply have to sign up for the Morrisons NHS Club to receive the discount.

David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive said: “We want to thank everybody in the National Health Service for playing their part in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus.

“We hope this measure combined with our dedicated hours for NHS staff will make life a little easier at this very challenging time for them.”

To benefit from the 10% discount staff need to present their NHS ID card in all Morrisons stores.

To make sure NHS staff can get hold of the groceries they need, Morrisons have also introduced an NHS hour at the beginning of every day from 6am-7am. On Sundays, the majority of stores open at 9am for hard working NHS workers to shop.

£500,000 Morrisons Foundation Fund offers Lifeline to Homeless

Morrisons Foundation has set aside a £500,000 fund over the next three months to help charities offer additional protection, services and support to the homeless as a result of Covid-19.

There are currently 320,00 homeless people in Briton and experts are warning more must be done to support the homeless and to avoid a spike in homelessness resulting from the pandemic’s economic impact.

The emergency funds are being provided as homeless people and charities face a crunch because:

  • There has been a 48% decline in voluntary income to charities since the onset of Covid-19
  • Many hotels have been forced to close, leaving some without accomodation
  • Some charities have seen a 20% reduction in staff due to self isolation and sickness
  • Charities have had to urgently source PPE equipment, food and everyday essentials.

Charities will be able to apply for emergency funding to pay for these costs.

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “Morrisons is committed to helping the most vulnerable in our society.

“We know that the coronavirus outbreak presents a particular risk to the homeless and we want to do our bit to help. This new fund will help charities doing vital work to care for the homeless at this critical time.”

Nick Connolly, Managing Director of End Youth Homelessness, said: “Our member charities need cash to pay for staff, personal protective equipment, food and other essentials to a level they could not have possibly have envisaged a few months ago. We are so pleased this is being recognised.”

Charities will be able to apply for financial help with:

  • Outreach and support for rough sleepers – including the supply of food and healthcare essentials
  • Delivery of services in hostels and shelters – including the payment of additional staff, purchase of PPE equipment and provision of emergency accommodation
  • Information and advice – including the provision of health and wellbeing services and helplines.

Rough sleepers are particularly vulnerable to Covid-19 as they are more likely to have underlying health conditions and are less able to access basic sanitation.

Charities can apply online for grants of up to £10,000 at www.morrisonsfoundation.com and successful applications will be fast tracked for payment.

Morrisons: Feeding the Nation update

Thank you to all our customers and Morrisons Key workers for your patience, consideration and support in the face of the Coronavirus challenge we are all facing right now.

I’d like to share with you some of the initiatives we’ve been working hard to deliver over this last week.

Till Screens

We’ve installed protective screens on all checkouts, in all stores. A huge achievement with great feedback from our customers and Key Workers.

Home Shopping

Our home shopping business is experiencing unprecedented high demand at the moment. We are working extremely hard to create as many delivery slots as we can. We have taken on an extra 3,000 Key Workers and are on track to increase capacity by 60% by the end of April.

And we’ve launched our Morrisons Food Box service which delivers 2 types of food box to the most vulnerable customers during self isolation.

Contactless Limit Increase

The Contactless card limit is being raised from £30 to £45 in all stores by Friday 3rd April. Please use contactless payments whenever you can as this will help reduce the need for physical contact between customers and our Key Workers.

Paying Our Suppliers

We know the increased demand on our smaller suppliers has been significant and to help them get through any difficulties caused by the spread of Coronavirus and ensure we play our part in working together, we have been paying our suppliers immediately since we first announced this in mid-March.

Join us and, together, we can help feed some of the most in need …

We’ve set up local food bank donation areas in all stores to help everybody play their part in Feeding The Nation. We’re running our manufacturing sites for an extra hour on top of the already longer production runs to help us jointly contribute £10 million by July. Supplies in our local food banks have been severely reduced in recent weeks and they need us now more than ever. If you can donate a grocery item, then please do.

Morrisons thanks staff with threefold increase in bonus for next 12 months

  • Full time colleagues will earn a bonus of £1,050 compared to around £350 average last year
  • The special bonus is the largest for frontline supermarket staff announced in recent weeks

Morrisons is recognising the huge effort by its colleagues who are helping to feed the nation during the coronavirus outbreak by increasing this year’s annual bonus payout threefold from last year.

Morrisons annual colleague bonus will become a ‘thank you’ bonus with the increase lasting for the next 12 months.

Because it will be a percentage of the entire year’s pay, frontline colleagues at Morrisons will see the largest special bonus of those announced over the last few weeks in the supermarket sector.

Morrisons colleagues have worked tirelessly to help meet demand and to thank them they will see these changes to the current bonus scheme:

  • All frontline colleagues will receive a 6% bonus on their earnings for the next 12 months rather than just the next 8-12 weeks
  • The changes represent a bonus payment of £1,050 for a full-time frontline colleague compared to the £351 that would have been paid last year
  • The bonus will be guaranteed in recognition of the effort made by very hard working colleagues
  • It will be paid quarterly so colleagues don’t have to wait until next year to be paid
  • The bonus will continue to be paid as a percentage of actual earnings as per previous years
  • Colleagues who are off sick or are self-isolating will remain eligible
  • Both permanent and temporary colleagues will be eligible in recognition of the thousands of new colleagues who have joined Morrisons in recent weeks.

Clare Grainger, Group People Director said: “Our highly valued colleagues have stood tall amidst the coronavirus pandemic, playing their full part in feeding the nation.

“We want to thank every single one of them for their continued hard work during these unprecedented times by paying a much higher guaranteed bonus for the whole year in recognition of their effort.”

Morrisons frontline salaried managers are also guaranteed to receive a bonus that will be twice their maximum yearly amount in a normal year, again guaranteed and paid quarterly.

The bonus overhaul is the latest change that Morrisons has put in place for its highly valued colleagues.

Previous measures include paying extremely vulnerable and high risk colleagues 12 weeks paid leave to self isolate as well as paying 12 weeks paid leave to colleagues who live with someone who is high risk and extremely vulnerable.

In store, perspex screens have been installed to protect colleagues and customers while paying for groceries at the checkouts and social distancing measures have been introduced.

Morrisons introduces NHS Hour

Many NHS workers have said that they are struggling to buy the products they need at the beginning or the end of their shift, as supermarkets have seen unprecedented demand.

So we’re responding by introducing an NHS hour at all our stores at the beginning of every day, Monday to Saturday, so NHS workers can shop for groceries for themselves and their families.

This will be from 7am to 8am and a Morrisons colleague will be on the door to let staff with an NHS badge in.

Our new opening hours for all our other customers are 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays we’ll be open as usual.

We promise to play our part in feeding the nation – it’s more than our job.

Chief Executive, Morrisons

Coronavirus: Morrisons introduces new measures

Morrisons has set out a number of measures to support colleagues and customers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

As a British family business, Morrisons will do its bit during the emergency and today sets out a plan to protect and help colleagues and expand home delivery to many more households at a time of national need. In doing so, Morrisons will create an extra 3,500 jobs.

These measures follow on from Morrisons announcement last week that it would be implementing immediate payments for its smaller suppliers, supporting their cashflow during this very difficult time for the British economy.

The key elements of the plan announced yesterday are:

  • Colleague hardship fund – to support colleagues who are in financial difficulty as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak we will create a colleague hardship fund. Colleagues will be able to apply for funds if they experience a financial setback and are struggling to make ends meet.
  • Helping colleagues – Morrisons colleagues are very highly valued and the company is introducing the following measures if they are affected:
    * Those who are sick with the Coronavirus will receive sick pay whether or not they would normally be eligible.
    * Colleagues who are affected either because of self isolation, or by playing their part in looking after close family members or the vulnerable in their local community, will also be eligible for sick pay, alternative shifts or holiday.
  • Protecting colleagues – Morrisons will protect highly valued colleagues by:
    * Asking customers at the checkout to pay, if possible, by card or smartphone to reduce cash handling.
    * Issuing hand sanitiser to checkouts at all stores and significantly increasing cleaning on places that colleagues and customers touch.
    * Redeploying colleagues who are vulnerable to the virus, where possible.
  • Expanding home delivery – Morrisons is to introduce new ways of delivering groceries and more slots for customers, which will also help vulnerable people and those affected by the virus. New measures include:
    * Launching a new range of simple-to-order food parcels, including options for vegetarians, from March 23rd.
    * Making more delivery slots available to customers both through Morrisons.com and the Morrisons Store on Amazon Prime Now. Morrisons will use 100 further stores to pick customers’ shopping over the coming weeks.
    * Launching a customer call centre for orders to be taken over the phone so that people who do not shop online can still order food.
    * To support the roll-out of these expanded home delivery methods, Morrisons will be recruiting around 2,500 pickers and drivers.
  • New Jobs – The outbreak of coronavirus will affect businesses across the UK and Morrisons will be offering jobs to people that are impacted. In addition to around 2,500 pickers and drivers to expand home delivery, Morrisons will be recruiting around 1,000 people to work in the company’s distribution centres. The vacancies will be advertised through a campaign on radio and social media and the Morrisons jobs website morrisons.jobs

David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “We expect the days, weeks and months ahead to be very testing and we are determined to do our bit.

“These measures will support our very hard-working colleagues, enable us to provide more food to more people in their homes and create opportunities for people whose jobs are affected by the coronavirus.”

A Message from Morrisons

This is a message of thanks to our customers for their patience and support and to our colleagues and suppliers for their hard work in dealing with the uncharted challenges and uncertainty presented by the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Whilst customers are stocking up, our colleagues are working around the clock to fill our stores with what you need, to serve our customers and communities and take care of one another when we need each other most.

We want to let you know that looking after our customers and colleagues is our priority at Morrisons, ensuring we all have a clean, safe place to shop and work.

We are working hard to fill our shops and online stores:

• We are a Foodmaker and Shopkeeper and we’re increasing the amount of food we make in our British manufacturing sites to meet customers’ needs
• We’ve increased the amount of stock being sent to stores from our warehouses, with colleagues working incredibly hard
• We’re extending our home delivery service so we can deliver to more customers on their doorstep at the times they need us
• We’re introducing temporary purchase limits on products where there is high demand, so they remain available for longer for more customers to buy
• Cleaning in our stores is being increased throughout the day to ensure high standards of food safety and store cleanliness are maintained

We are following guidance provided by the Government, working closely with our suppliers and ensuring we collectively do everything possible to help the country in these challenging times.

I want to personally thank all our dedicated colleagues who are working very hard in very challenging circumstances, to serve our customers, support our communities and take care of one another.

We expect the days, weeks and months ahead to be testing. I know that working together to support each other we will meet the many challenges we will face.

We have plans in place to respond as the situation develops and we are working every day to meet the changing nature of the impact of this pandemic.

I would like to ask all our customers, when shopping with us, to please consider others even more so everyone can buy what they need, especially those who are most vulnerable in our society. Please continue to treat our colleagues on the front line with the greatest respect.

Thank you for shopping with Morrisons. We promise to do our very best to work together, to support our customers and each other as we face into this challenge.

Sincerely

David
