Heriot’s Rugby plan first pre-match lunch for Women’s Rugby fixture

Heriot’s Rugby Club at Goldeacre is delighted to announce their first ever pre-match lunch for a Women’s rugby fixture.

There has been a lot of interest in Women in Sport of late and Heriot’s Rugby Club are seeing the rewards to this, with sponsors such as Golden Acre Foods, Shoosmiths and Modern Standard Coffee identifying the Blues Women as a team they wish to support.

The first pre-match lunch takes place on Sunday 21st November 2021 from 11.30am prior to the Heriot’s Blues Women V Stirling RFC game, kick off is 2pm. This is going to be an exciting day for all involved.

Heriot’s Rugby Club invite anyone interested in taking part in the lunch to book tickets via their website https://bit.ly/3vHCj44 – cost is £25 per head and includes a 3-course set lunch followed by tea/coffee & mints.

The Blues Women’s games are free to spectators, so anyone wishing to watch the game, please come along to Goldenacre any time from 1pm onwards.

Rhona Hume, Director of Women’s Rugby at Heriot’s Rugby Club said, “We are incredibly excited to be hosting this pre-match lunch, with Ellen Dickson, Scotland Women’s Team Manager, as guest speaker, this shows the growth in women’s rugby in Scotland, and I am so grateful for Iain ‘The Bear’ Milne’s support in pulling this together.”

Armed robbery at Goldenacre store

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery at a store in the Warriston area. The incident happened at a premises on Montagu Terrace around 7.40am this morning.

A man entered the store and presented a knife, he threatened staff to open the till and made off with a sum of cash.

The man is described as being white, aged in his early 20s, of slim build, around 6ft to 6ft 2in tall. He had a black face covering and was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up, black trousers and black gloves.

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg, of Corstorphine CID, said: “Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident but this was a frightening experience for the member of staff.

“Enquires are ongoing to identify the man responsible, including reviewing CCTV from the area.

“Anyone who believes they may have information which could help identify the man or who was in the area at the time of the robbery is urged to contact police as soon as they can.”

The Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) Edinburgh District’s One Act Festival takes place at St Serf’s Church Hall on Clark Road from 14 – 16 February. Over three evenings, theatregoers will be entertained by:

Three winning teams will be selected to go forward to the SCDA East Division finals, which will take place in Larbert next month.

It’s Jubilee party time!

The Bank Holiday weekend will see Diamond Jubilee parties across the country and you won’t have to travel too far to join in the celebrations.

Granton Baptist Church are having a barbecue, fun and games at Crewe Road West on Sunday from 11 – 4pm, all welcome

Also on Sunday, Holy Cross Church in Davidson’s Mains is holding a picnic with music and games from 12.15pm – again all welcome, bring your own picnic but no dogs please!

Next weekend, St Serf’s on Clark Road are holding a Jubilee Fete on Saturday (9 June) from 2 – 4pm. Games with the Air Cadets, Stockbridge Pipe Band, many stalls and afternoon teas are all on offer along at Goldenacre.

Seems like North Edinburgh’s going Jubilee crazy!
