Time to save the dates and come to Gyle during the holidays, we have the Thursdays fun and our Summer Mini Fair in section M of the car park.
Team GB athlete Jennifer Dodds made a special appearance at Trinity Primary School last week to help deliver an exciting workshop on the importance of energy saving in partnership with British Gas.
The visit formed part of British Gas’ Get Set for Positive Energy Roadshow which aims to educate pupils across the UK on energy saving behaviours and habits.
Through an engaging session led by Jennifer and British Gas representatives, 77 pupils at Trinity Primary School participated in a range of activities including designing posters to encourage energy saving at home and school, spotting ways to prevent energy misuse, and suggesting improvements to make their school a greener place.
During the summer, the Get Set for Positive Energy regional Roadshow will see British Gas and a group of Olympic and Paralympic athletes visit a selection of other schools across the UK, leading workshops and inspiring the minds of the future to get involved in energy saving from a young age.
Aimi McIntosh, Deputy Headteacher at Trinity Primary School, said: “It was lovely to see the children enjoying themselves so much during the workshop hosted by Jennifer Dodds and British Gas – they particularly loved suggesting creative ways to make our school a greener environment and hearing all about Jennifer’s journey as a Team GB athlete.
“It was a really inspiring and educational session and a fantastic opportunity for our school, so we’d like to thank all involved!”
Hannah Lawrance, Strategic Brand Partnerships Lead at British Gas, said: “We really enjoyed visiting Trinity Primary School last week alongside Jennifer Dodds for our Get Set for Positive Energy workshop. We met some brilliant pupils who threw their all into the energy saving activities we had planned which was great to see.
“The programme aims to educate children on building a more sustainable future, which helps us to create a more sustainable community for all. We’re using our partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB to inspire schools to get more active and consider different ways to create a positive impact.”
The Get Set for Positive Energy Roadshow makes up part of British Gas’ wider Get Set for Positive Energy initiative, a free cross-curricular programme that aims to educate young people aged five to 11 on the importance of saving energy to drive change, getting active and building healthy everyday habits.
Through Get Set for Positive Energy, British Gas aims to reach up to 8,500 schools and 1.5 million young people and families across the UK by 2028, taking inspiration from the Olympic and Paralympic values to motivate young people to be active in creating a greener future for themselves and their community.
The partnership between Team GB, ParalympicsGB and British Gas launched in 2023. The five-year collaboration will last up until the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028.

Edinburgh Leisure is thrilled to announce that Shared Care Scotland’s Better Breaks Fund has awarded £13,609 to support the ASN Multi-Sports sessions at Gracemount Leisure Centre for the 2025-26 period.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that Edinburgh Leisure has received funding from Shared Care Scotland, highlighting the exceptional work done by the team at Gracemount Leisure Centre (GLC) and the significant impact their support has on local families.
Shared Care Scotland funds projects across Scotland that support unpaid carers in leading full and balanced lives. Their annual Better Breaks Fund provides 12-month grants to third sector organisations to develop and deliver short breaks and services for disabled children and young people and their carers.
The ASN Multi-Sports sessions at GLC offer children and young people with various disabilities the chance to enjoy physical activities in a safe and supportive environment.
Activities include swimming, boccia, adapted ball sports, trampolining, martial arts, and gym access for older participants. These sessions aim to enrich lives through physical activity, fostering friendships, encouraging new experiences, developing life skills, building confidence and self-esteem, and most importantly, having fun.
Additionally, the ASN Multi-Sports sessions provide carers with valuable time away from their caregiving roles to focus on their own health and wellbeing. Carers can enjoy free use of the gym, complimentary tea and coffee in the on-site café, or simply leave the centre knowing their child is well cared for.
Sessions take place every Saturday morning at Edinburgh Leisure’s Gracemount Leisure Centre, which was recently awarded the UK Active Scottish Centre of the Year 2024.
Craig Cassidy, Venue Manager at Gracemount, expressed his gratitude: “A huge thank you to Shared Care Scotland’s Better Breaks Fund for another year of funding for our ASN Multi-Sports sessions.
“The benefits of an active childhood are endless, so we are absolutely delighted that the funding will enable us to continue supporting local families with disabled children to access opportunities to be active.”
A local mother, whose child benefits from the service, shared her experience: “My 9-year-old son, Archie, has Down’s Syndrome. We were delighted when we found out about ASN Multi-Sports as Archie has seen his older sisters going to sports clubs but we had struggled to find suitable opportunities for him.
“He has loved football and swimming, and it has been great to watch his confidence grow in the pool.”
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Strachan House care home in Blackhall celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including an Easter egg hunt, Easter bonnet competition, egg and spoon race and a bunny colouring competition!
Residents at Strachan House enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from designing and showcasing Easter bonnets to cheering on the unit staff for the egg and spoon race! Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of a roast dinner prepared by the home’s head chef Paul.
General Manager, Fran Fisher said: “As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a lovely time of year – the residents loved designing all of the colourful Easter eggs, and had a great time during the Easter egg hunt with family and friends. It’s really been an eggs-cellent few days!”
Marion, resident at Strachan House said: “It has been so lovely to spend time with our families this Easter, though like every Easter, I think I’ve eaten too much chocolate! It was so wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort.
“I really enjoyed the whole day; the bonnet competition was hilarious!”
