Witness appeal following fatal road crash on Dundee Street

Road Policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a fatal road crash on Dundee Street, which took place around 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, 1 December, 2024).

The incident involved a grey Volvo XC60 and a male pedestrian. The 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, was arrested and released pending further enquiries.

An investigation to establish the full circumstances of the crash is ongoing and officers are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this tragic time.

“As our enquiries continue, we ask anyone who was in the area and either witnessed the crash, or has potential dashcam footage from around that time, to please contact police.”

Appeal for information following an attempted robbery in Wester Hailes

Detectives are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Wester Hailes.

Around 11pm on Friday, 15 November, 2024, two men approached a vehicle on Hailesland Road, threatened the driver, demanded money from him and damaged the vehicle. The men then got into a light-coloured car and drove along Murrayburn Road in the direction of Longstone Road.

Detective Constable William Doughty said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the men responsible.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the incident or noticed anything suspicious, to come forward.

“Additionally, we urge anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to review it and bring anything significant to our attention.”

Police issue witness appeal following Gilmerton Road assault and robbery

POLICE are appealing for information after an assault and robbery on Gilmerton Road on Monday (18 November, 2024).

Around 10.30pm, police and ambulance were called to a report of a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old man injured after a man entered their Mercedes B-class vehicle on Gilmerton Road and assaulted them.

The injured men got out of the vehicle leaving the suspect within. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Gilmerton Road.

They were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and treated for their injuries. The 24-year-old man was released after treatment.

Detective Sergeant James Palmer said: “Enquiries are ongoing in and around the Gilmerton Road area to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and trace the stolen car.

“I would urge anyone who was in this area between 10pm and 10.30pm on Monday night who witnessed anything relevant to this enquiry or has dashcam footage that may assist to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who has seen or has any information on the whereabouts of the Mercedes Benz with the registration number YK59 UTX to get in touch. The car may have damage to the front.”

Assault in George Street: Do you know this man?

Police Scotland has released images of a man officers believe may be able to assist with their investigation into an assault in Edinburgh city centre.

The incident took place on George Street around 1.20am on Sunday, 29 September, 2024.

The man is described as of average build, around 5ft 10ins, in his mid-20’s with medium length dark hair and a moustache. He was wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans and dark trainers with a brown over-the-shoulder bag.

Detective Sergeant Rob Finch, of Gayfield CID, said: “I would urge the man pictured, or anyone who has information relating to him, to contact the police.

Appeal for information following fatal crash on City Bypass

Road policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the city bypass.

Around 9.10am yesterday (Thursday, 7 November, 2024), police were called to a report of a three-car crash on the A720 between Gogar roundabout and Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh.

The crash involved a grey Volkswagen Transporter campervan, a grey Volkswagen Tiguan and a red Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Corsa, a 53-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died a short time later.

The driver of the Tiguan was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the campervan was not injured.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash ongoing.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this difficult time, and we will support them throughout the investigation.

“We would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Assault in Lothian Road: Do you know this man?

POLICE have released images of a man they wish to speak to as part of an ongoing inquiry into an assault in Edinburgh that took place around 12.25am in Lothian Road on Sunday, 13 October, 2024.

Officers believe the man in the images could have vital information which could assist their investigation.

He is described as being in his twenties, around 5ft 9ins tall, and of slim build. He had a Scottish accent and short, dark hair. At the time, he was wearing a grey tracksuit and black Canada Goose jacket with a fur collar.

Police re-appeal for information following serious assault

Detectives are continuing enquiries into the serious assault of a 26-year-old woman in Dalkeith and are re-appealing for information and people to come forward.

The incident happened between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday, 4 October 2024 when a woman was approached by a man who attacked her on a path within a wooded area on Abbey Road, Dalkeith.

Officers have established there were several people in the area around the time of the incident who have yet to speak to police.

Detective Inspector Diane Barr said: “We would like to thank the local community for their assistance so far and ask those that were in the area on that day that have still to speak to the police to come forward, even if you believe you have nothing to report, your information could prove vital.”

The injured woman was taken to hospital but has since been released.

The man is described as white, in his late 30s with stubble. He was wearing black trousers, a black waterproof jacket and had a dog lead around his neck, but it is not believed he had a dog with him.

Officers continue to examine CCTV footage from in and around the area for any small detail which could assist the investigation. Enquiries are continuing and an increased police presence remains in the area.

Appeal for information after man and woman assaulted and robbed on Leith Street

Detectives in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man and a woman were assaulted and robbed in the city centre.

A 50-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were at the pedestrian crossing at Leith Street and Princes Street junction around 10pm on Monday, 28 October, 2024 when they were assaulted and robbed by a group of people.

They were both taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspects ran off towards St James Quarter and Multrees Walk.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gray of CID said: “This appears to have been a shockingly unprovoked and random attack, which left the victims requiring medical treatment. We are keen to trace three males and a female.

“The first male youth is described as aged between 14 and 16 years of age, tanned complexion, of medium build, with light curly hair which was short on top. He was wearing a black snood, a blue zipped jacket with white down the side.

“The second male is aged between 16 and 20 years of age, with dark hair. He was wearing dark clothing and white trainers.

“The third male is aged between 16-20 years of age, with dark hair. He was wearing dark clothing with white writing across the chest.

“The female is aged between 16 and 20 years of age, five-foot one inch tall, with blonde hair. She was wearing a white jacket.

“As part of our enquiries, we are reviewing CCTV to identify those responsible. We would ask if any has footage of the incident to please come forward.

Appeal for witnesses following petrol station robbery in South Queensferry

Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in South Queensferry.

Around 2.15pm yesterday (Friday, 25 October, 2024), a man was seen outside a petrol station at Ferrymuir Gait.

A short time later he entered the premises, presented a weapon and demanded money.

The male staff member was unhurt and did not require medical treatment.

The suspect is described as being between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins and of medium build. He was wearing a black beanie style hat with a grey trim, a grey snood which covered his mouth and nose. He was also wearing a brown coat with a fur trim collar and cuffs, blue jeans and white trainers. He wore blue gloves with writing on the rear of the left hand, was carrying a black backpack and he spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Martin Smith said: “The staff member was understandably shocked at what happened, but thankfully uninjured.

“Reviewing CCTV is key part of this enquiry and officers are extensively working through all available footage. If you have local CCTV or were in the area and have dash-cam footage, please get in touch as you may have captured something that can assist our investigation.

Renewed appeal after series of incidents on Union Canal tow path

Detectives are renewing an appeal for information after two assaults on the Union Canal tow path in Edinburgh.

Both incidents happened on Sunday, 13 October.

The first happened near to Harrison Park around 7pm when a 31-year-old man was assaulted while cycling on the tow path. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The second happened near to Watson’s Rowing Club where a 50-year-old man walking on the path was assaulted. He was uninjured and did not require hospital treatment.

Officers are also investigating an incident around 5.40pm on the path near to Meggetland Bridge where a man acted in a threatening manner towards a woman walking in the area.

All three incident are being treated as linked.

Officers are working to identify a man described as being between 20 and 30-years-old, around 6ft tall, lean build, pale complexion, gaunt face, clean shaven, short dark hair with dark eyebrows.

He was wearing a dark blue hoodie and white trainers.

Detective Inspector Gordon Couper said: “We believe all three of these incidents are linked and would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

“We believe there were other people using the path around the time of these incidents and would urge anyone who witnessed anything to let us know. We’d also be keen to speak to anyone who have photographs or video footage from the area around these times.

“We would urge people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us. We have dedicated officers patrolling both the general area and the tow path specifically who you can speak to.
