Appeal following assault with intent to rob in Meadows

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault with intent to rob which occurred in the city yesterday (Thursday, 5 August, 2021).

Around 12.05 am a 23-year-old woman was walking on Melville Terrace near to the junction with Moncrieff Terrace when she was approached from behind by a man who pulled her to the ground and demanded money from her.

The woman managed to fight the man off before contacting police.

The man ran off northwards in the Meadows towards the tennis courts.

The suspect is described as being in his late 30s, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build, with dark brown/grey hair and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a grey camouflage face mask, a black short-sleeved shirt, dark joggers and was carrying a messenger bag.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor, of Gayfield CID, said: “Thankfully the woman was not injured during this incident, but it was nonetheless a very distressing experience.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed what happened, or noticed a man matching the above description, to please come forward.

Witness Appeal: Bottle attack on priest in St Mary’s Cathedral

A Statement from Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh:

A praying priest was attacked by a man with a bottle in St Mary’s Cathedral in York Place yesterday. Edinburgh Police say enquiries are ongoing and urge anyone with information to contact them on 101.

In a statement, the Archdiocese of Edinburgh and St Andrew’s said: “Yesterday morning (Monday 26 July) a priest sitting alone praying in a pew at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh was subject to a violent and unprovoked assault by a man carrying a glass bottle.

“Just prior to the attack the man had asked him if he was a priest. When the priest replied that he was, the man attempted to hit him on the head with the bottle, before chasing him to the back of the cathedral.

“The bottle broke on the ground and the man continued using it in his assault. The priest managed to fend him off with a chair before the attacker ran out of the cathedral. The priest escaped without injury.

“Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0823 of Monday 26 July.”

A police spokesperson confirmed: “Around 9.35am on Monday, 26 July, police were called to a report of a 35-year-old man being assaulted within a church in York Place, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and the victim did not require hospital treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0823 of Monday, 26 July, 2021.”

Appeal for information after two men seriously injured in Granton

Around 1.10am on Saturday, 3 July, 2021 officer were called to Granton Square, Edinburgh following a report of a disturbance.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, were found with serious injuries and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated.

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg, said: “These men received serious injuries and therefore it is imperative that we establish exactly how they came about them.

“We are currently carrying out enquiries into the matter, however would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Passing taxis or private hire vehicles that were in the area may also have dash-cam footage that could be vital in our enquiry. We would urge you to get in touch.”

Police appeal following attempted murder in West Pilton

Police Scotland is appealing for information after the attempted murder of a 34-year-old man in West Pilton.

Officers were called to a report of a man found injured in a common stairwell in West Pilton Grove in Edinburgh at around 5pm on Friday (18 June).

The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he was treated for injuries to his head and body.

Detective Inspector Alison MacDonald of CID said : “We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this attempted murder, and trace whoever is responsible.

“A review of CCTV footage in the local area is ongoing and officers are carrying out house to house enquires in order to establish what happened.

“We are keen to trace the driver of a dark blue hatchback which was seen to be driving erratically in the area around the same time.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this attack take place, or motorists who were driving in the area of West Pilton Grove between 4pm and 5pm on Friday, 19 June and have dash-cam footage, you may have captured something that will assist our inquiry.

“Anyone with information on this attack should contact detectives at Corstorphine Police Office though 101 quoting reference number 2690 of 19 June. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

Police seek information following Ferry Road Hit and Run

Cyclist in serious condition

Police are appealing for information following a hit and run in Edinburgh.

Around 5pm yesterday (Sunday, 13 June) a man was cycling on Ferry Road when he was struck by a motorbike travelling in the same direction. The 52-year-old cyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The motorcyclist did not stop at the time and officers are treating the incident as a hit and run.

The motorbike is possibly red in colour and the motorcyclist was wearing protective clothing.

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick said: “I would urge the motorcyclist involved to come forward. I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident. If any motorists have dash cams, please check your footage as it could assist our enquiries. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from in and around the area for any further information on the motorcyclist.”

Forth Street attack: Can you help?

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a reported serious assault which took place in the Forth Street area.

The incident took place around 9.50pm on Monday, 7 June, when a 67-year-old man was struck in the face and suffered serious injuries as a result.

The suspect is male, aged between 30 and 40, 5ft 6 with a stocky build and unshaven face. He was wearing a dark beanie hat, hooded jumper, coat and baggy trousers.

Detective Constable Christina Yeoman, of Gayfield CID, said: “This appears to have been a shockingly unprovoked and random attack, which left the victim with multiple serious injuries.

“We’re asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to please come forward. If you believe you could help our enquiries, call 101 quoting reference 4086 of 7 June. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”

Police seek witnesses to serious West Pilton road accident

Fifteen year old girl in critical condition in hospital

Road Policing Officers are appealing for information after a serious road crash took place in West Pilton on Friday evening.

Around 5.25pm on Friday (4 June 2021), a red coloured Audi Q3 and an electric motorbike collided on West Pilton Street, at the junction with Ferry Road Drive.

A 15-year-old girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where she remains in a critical but stable condition. A 14-year-old girl was also taken to the same hospital to be treated for injuries.

Sergeant Steve Livesey said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this incident take place or and has not already spoken to police to get in touch. The street was busy and therefore we are aware there were a number of witnesses.”

Attempted murder at Fort Kinnaird: Can you help?

Detectives are appealing for information following an attempted murder which occurred in the Fort Kinnaird area of Edinburgh on Thursday (3 June).

Around 5pm a group of four men were standing at Fort Kinnaird when they were approached by two men on a motorcycle.

A short chase took place and one of the men was stopped nearby on Whitehill Road, where the pillion passenger on the bike assaulted him with a bladed weapon.

The two suspects then made off along Whitehill Road.

The 31-year-old victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The suspects are described as follows – driver dressed in all black clothing with a black helmet while the passenger was wearing a jacket with a red body and grey sleeves, with a dark cap and a snood/ dark face covering. They were travelling on a distinctive off road/trials/scrambler bike which was mainly blue in colour, with red and white livery.

Detective Inspector Clark Martin from Gayfield CID said: “We believe this incident was targeted towards the group of men standing at Fort Kinnaird and the victim has been left with extremely serious injuries.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened, or noticed the suspects in the area, to please come forward.

“The motorcycle they were using was very distinctive and I would also urge anyone who thinks they may have seen it in the Edinburgh area on Thursday to pass this information on to the police.

Police witness appeal after man struck by car on Queensferry Road

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a road traffic incident in Edinburgh yesterday (Thursday, 3 June 2021).

Around 5.25pm, police received a report a man had been struck by a car on Queensferry Road, Edinburgh near its junction with Parkgrove Road. Emergency services attended and the 33-year-old man was taken, by ambulance, to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for assessment. Medical staff describe his condition as stable.

The female driver of the car was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours to allow for collision investigators to carry out enquiries.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes said: “This was a busy time of evening with lots of people and several motorists in the area. I would appeal to them to contact us with any information they may have as it could assist our enquiries in establishing what has happened. In particular, anyone with a dash cam is asked to check it as it may have captured images which could aid our investigation.”

Appeal for information after Stenhouse hit and run

Police are appealing for information after a man was reported to have been assaulted and then struck by a vehicle in Stenhouse last night (Wednesday, 7 April, 2021).

Around 7.25 pm on Wednesday evening, police were called to a report of an altercation in Stenhouse Grove, involving two men. Shortly afterwards, a black 4×4 vehicle was seen to deliberately drive at one of the men in Stenhouse Street West, striking him and causing him to fall to the ground.

The vehicle then drove off and the man ran off along Stenhouse Street West.

The suspect, who is thought to be the driver of the 4×4, is described as white, in his 20s, 5 ft 10, of slim build, of gaunt appearance and had short blonde/brown hair. He was wearing a light coloured top and grey jogging bottoms. He spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg, Corstorphine CID, said: “At the moment our priority is to trace the man struck by the vehicle, primarily to ensure that he is safe and well. We want to make sure he receives any medical treatment he may need after this incident and would ask him to get in touch with police.

“We are still trying to establish why this happened.

“From our enquiries so far, the man struck by the vehicle, who is only described as white, 20-30 years old, of medium build, possibly brown hair, was wearing a beige jumper and grey jogging bottoms, was assaulted by a man, on Stenhouse Grove, Edinburgh.

“It is believed that the attacker then got into a black 4×4, with a male passenger on board, before deliberately striking the other man, throwing him into a hedge and then driving off.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area in an effort to trace those involved.

“I would ask anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information that can assist our enquiry, contact CID officers at Corstorphine Police Station, Edinburgh, via 101. Please quote reference number 2912 of 7 April, 2021, when calling.
