Be our guests!

Granton Community Gardeners to share their bumper harvest harvest feast

Weather’s turning wintry, time to gather inside and have some hot food!

YOU’RE ALL INVITED!

Friday 20 November, 6pm Royston Wardieburn Community Centre

No need to bring anything, but message us if you’d like to help organise, set up or bring food. (and RSVPs are helpful for numbers)

Granton Community Gardeners committee member Tom Kirby reports:

Most things have grown really well in the gardens this year, and there’s been a great regular team of local residents, we’ve all learned a lot from each other!  We still meet up every Tuesday and Saturday at 11am (unless weather is really bad!) at the community garden on the corner of Boswall Parkway and Wardieburn Road. Anyone is very welcome to join us, no prior gardening experience needed!

This Saturday (weather permitting) we’ll be sowing the first of our trial plots of winter wheat!  We are participating in a project organised by Bread Matters, to try growing small scale plots of varieties of wheat that used to be grown in Scotland before cereal production became so industrialised (and before issues like gluten intolerances were such a problem).

We’re already making plans for next year, but it’s good to take some time to relax and celebrate what’s been achieved.

Hope you’re well and keeping warm,

Calling all collectors!

ARCADEUM: art project looking for unusual collections cac2

Whether it’s an interest, an obsession, a hobby or a habit; from animal ornaments to ankle bracelets, from zulu masks to zoo souvenirs, intentionally or by chance – lots of us collect things.

As part of ARCADEUM, a new art project based at North Edinburgh Arts, artist Hans Clausen is looking for residents in North Edinburgh who have collections. Hans plans to create an exhibition around local residents collections accompanied by a book and/or website featuring people’s collections and the stories attached to them.

He would like to hear from anyone of any age who has a collection they’d like to share … the more unusual the better! Over the coming year the ARCADEUM project will be exploring the purpose, potential and possibilities of public art, specifically in and around the new Community Partnership Centre to be built in Pennywell in 2016.

There will be public art events, exhibitions and opportunities for participation, collaboration and discussion. Bringing people together to talk about the things they collect is a way of finding common interests and starting conversations about why we like what we like, the value and worth of things and how we relate and respond to the stuff that surrounds us.

If you’re a collector, a happy hoarder or just happen to have a curious collection of things Hans would like to hear from you. Please get in touch, leave us your contact details and Hans will be happy to meet with you to hear about your collection!

You can contact Hans by:

  • Email: hans@arcadeum.org
  • Phone: 0131 315 2151
  • At North Edinburgh Arts on Thursdays or Fridays or leave him a message at reception.

Living in Harmony to follow up Positively Diverse pledges

Living in Harmony Group meets tomorrow evening

DSC05580

It was fantastic to see so many people at the Positively Diverse event at the beginning of October. There was some great feedback, including how helpful it was to hear from residents themselves about their experiences (writes Hannah Kitchen).

We have been looking through people’s postcards, notes and feedback and are keen to help you follow up on some of the things you were inspired to do at the event.

Living in Harmony Forum, Wednesday 28 October, 5-7pm at Pilton Community Health Project

The Living in Harmony forum is a space for residents and workers in North Edinburgh to work and learn together in order to make services more accessible for people from BME communities, and to put on activities that increase friendship and understanding between people in the area.

On Wednesday we will be meeting to carry on some of the conversations we started at the Positively Diverse event. I’m attaching a draft agenda. Please contact me if there are any items you would like to add.

We would love to see you there. Please reply to this email to tell me if you are able to come. We can arrange free crèche places for anyone who needs them, but need 24 hours’ notice to do this.
