Man arrested following 2023 road fatality

A man has been arrested following a fatal road crash in Edinburgh in 2023.

The incident occurred in Stevenson Drive in the Balgreen area of the city around 3.30pm on Saturday, 26 August, 2023. A 70-year-old female pedestrian died in the incident.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. He was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 18 July, 2024.

Princes Street serious assault: Man to appear in court

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault which occurred on Princes Street on Tuesday (2 July, 2024).

He is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow – Monday, 8 July.

Westfield Road victim named

A 53-year-old man who died in Edinburgh has been named as Brian Ramsay.

Officers were called to Westfield Road in the city around 12.55pm on Friday, 7 June, following concern for a man within a property. Mr Ramsay was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 10 June, 2024.

Brian’s family have issued the following statement through Police Scotland: – “We are shocked and saddened by his death. We would ask that we are given privacy to come to terms with our loss at this time.”

Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “Our enquiries into the full circumstances of this incident remain ongoing.

“We would ask anyone with any information which could assist us with the investigation, that has not already come forward, to please make contact with officers as soon as possible.

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the Mr Ramsay, and we will continue to support them during this difficult time.”

Man arrested and charged following death in Westfield Road

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 53-year-old man in Gorgie.

Officers were called to Westfield Road at around 12.55pm on Friday (7 June) following concern for a man within a property.

The 53-year-old was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

The 43-year-old man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow (Monday, 10 June, 2024).

Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.

“This was a contained incident, however we know that the police presence and subsequent road closure has had a significant impact on the local community and the wider public.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as officers have carried out their enquiries in the area.”

Fernieside death: Man arrested and charged

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 78-year-old woman in Edinburgh today – Tuesday, 21 May, 2024.

Around 8.25am, police were called to a disturbance within a house in Fernieside Crescent. Police and Ambulance attended and a 78-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and enquiries continue.

This was an isolated incident and officers remain in the area to provide public reassurance and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Man arrested following Broomhouse cannabis discovery

Around 9am yesterday (Wednesday, 8 May), whilst executing a warrant at an address on Broomhouse Place North, officers from Edinburgh South West Community Policing Team discovered controlled drugs, believed to be cannabis, both herbal and plants, with an estimated street value of £303,000.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 9 May 2024. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Drugs operation sees man arrested and charged

As part of an operation to combat illegal substances in the north east area of Edinburgh a man has been arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences.

Officers from Operation Elate arrested the 26-year-old man around 5.40pm yesterday (Wednesday, 6 March, 2024) in Elgin Street, Leith. Subsequently, class A drugs with a street value of £5,160 and over £700 in cash were recovered.

The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday 4th April.

Chief Inspector Kieran Dougal said: “Drugs cause miseries in our communities and officers continue to work to remove illegal substances from our streets.

“Information from the public has an important role and we ask anyone with concerns about drugs to contact Police Scotland via 101 or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police appeal following serious assault in Hunter Square

Officers are appealing for information following the serious assault of a man in Edinburgh’s city centre.

The incident happened around 3.40pm yesterday (Tuesday, 20 February) at Hunter Square. A 36-year-old man was assaulted. He was taken to hospital for treatment where he remains in a critical condition.

A 46-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Steven Gray said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may have information which could help to get in touch.

“I would ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area around that time to contact us.”

Man charged following Pilton drug raids

A 22-year-old man has been charged following the recovery of cannabis with a street value of £25,000 in West Pilton.

Reacting to intelligence, officers carried out searches at a number of properties in the north of the city on Thursday, 8 April, including West Pilton Gardens and West Pilton Terrace.

Cannabis with a potential street value of £25,000 was recovered from a property, along with almost £1,000 in cash. A 22-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with drug supply offences and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

A 26-year-old man will also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for drug possession offences.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat said: “We remain committed to disrupting the illegal supply of drugs in our communities and we will use every tool and tactic at our disposal to remove them from our streets.

“This enforcement action was carried out after receiving intelligence of criminal activity. The public continue to play a vital role in assisting investigations into drug crime and I would encourage anyone who has any concerns about drug-related activity, or has any information about those involved in drugs, to contact police on 101 or make an anonymous report to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
