Man faces court following crime spree across Lothians and Borders

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an extensive investigation into a series of housebreakings and thefts across the Lothians and Borders.

The incidents took place in Tranent, Prestonpans, Galashiels, Selkirk, Livingston, Gorebridge and Stow, between Friday, 6 September and Thursday, 10 October, 2024.

The man has been charged in connection with a number of offences, including 13 housebreakings, four attempted housebreakings and five vehicle thefts.

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today – Tuesday, 22 October, 2024. Further enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Debbie Duncan said: “Crimes of this nature have a serious impact on the victims, causing them to question the safety and security of their own homes, and I would like to commend the work of the officers investigating this crime series.

“I would also like to thank the various local communities for their assistance with our enquiries to date and reassure the public that any reports of criminality will be investigated thoroughly by Police Scotland.”

Trinity road crash: Man charged

A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences following a crash in Edinburgh.

The incident occurred around 5.50pm on Wednesday, 10 April, 2024, in Trinity Crescent.

A 58-year-old man was injured in the collision and died on Monday, 29 April, 2024.

The man is due to appear at court at a later date.

Fatal road crash: Man charged

A 58-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences following a fatal crash on the M8 near junction 1.

The crash happened around 9.10am on Monday, 18 December, 2023 involving a HGV and a car.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man is due to appear at court at a later date.

Frederick Street assault: Man charged


A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault in Edinburgh on Sunday, 7 July 2024.

The incident took place on Frederick Street, around 3.25am and a 32-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on a later date.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Muirhouse Park incident: Man to appear in Court

A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault on Muirhouse Park at around 5.20am yesterday morning (Wednesday, 14 August, 2024).

A 43-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

This is being treated as an isolated incident and there was no wider risk to the public.

The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Dalkeith Road assault and robbery: Man to appear in court

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged following and assault and robbery on a 74-year-old man at the junction of Dalkeith Road and Salisbury Road, Edinburgh on Wednesday, 3 July, 2024.

The man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on tomorrow (Monday, 29 July).

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Man arrested following 2023 road fatality

A man has been arrested following a fatal road crash in Edinburgh in 2023.

The incident occurred in Stevenson Drive in the Balgreen area of the city around 3.30pm on Saturday, 26 August, 2023. A 70-year-old female pedestrian died in the incident.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. He was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, 18 July, 2024.

Westfield Road victim named

A 53-year-old man who died in Edinburgh has been named as Brian Ramsay.

Officers were called to Westfield Road in the city around 12.55pm on Friday, 7 June, following concern for a man within a property. Mr Ramsay was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 10 June, 2024.

Brian’s family have issued the following statement through Police Scotland: – “We are shocked and saddened by his death. We would ask that we are given privacy to come to terms with our loss at this time.”

Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “Our enquiries into the full circumstances of this incident remain ongoing.

“We would ask anyone with any information which could assist us with the investigation, that has not already come forward, to please make contact with officers as soon as possible.

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the Mr Ramsay, and we will continue to support them during this difficult time.”

Man arrested and charged following death in Westfield Road

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 53-year-old man in Gorgie.

Officers were called to Westfield Road at around 12.55pm on Friday (7 June) following concern for a man within a property.

The 53-year-old was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

The 43-year-old man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow (Monday, 10 June, 2024).

“This was a contained incident, however we know that the police presence and subsequent road closure has had a significant impact on the local community and the wider public.
