Weasley family reunite to launch Warner Bros. Studio Tour London’s new summer feature

  • Original Weasley cast members have reunited at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, stepping back onto the iconic film sets where they first brought the beloved wizarding family to life 25 years ago
  • From The Burrow to Platform 9 ¾, the Weasley family revisited their most memorable sets and reminisced on all their filmmaking stories alongside behind-the-scenes filmmakers such as Head Propmaker, Pierre Bohanna, Makeup Artist, Amanda Knight and Art Director, Gary Tomkins
  • The family reunion comes as research reveals that Harry Potter meeting the Weasley’s on the way to Platform 9 ¾ is one of the top three favourite scenes of the film
  • The reunion celebrates the launch of the new summer feature ‘First Year at Hogwarts – Where the Filmmaking Magic Began’, marking 25 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – giving fans the chance to explore Harry Potter’s first-year adventures on the authentic film sets

It feels like only yesterday since ‘the boy who lived’ made his debut on the big screen as Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone launched in cinemas.

To celebrate this anniversary, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter today hosted a magical reunion as actors Bonnie Wright, James and Oliver Phelps and Mark Williams – who played Ginny, Fred, George and Arthur Weasley, respectively – came together to revisit the enchanting film sets where the adventures came to life, 25 years ago.

Taking part in the celebration, the wizarding world’s most adored family came together to relive their time on set and surprise Studio Tour visitors.

From the very first time the world saw the Weasleys help Harry onto Platform 9 ¾, to the family’s quaint kitchen in The Burrow, the stars shared memories from filming and offered a rare glimpse into the filmmaking magic behind one of the most iconic and expansive film franchises of all time.

So successful, in fact, that Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone broke the record for the highest-opening weekend ever and was the highest grossing film of 2001- grossing an astonishing $974 million at the box office worldwide during its initial run and subsequently grossing over $1 billion.

Speaking on the reunion, Mark Williams said: “I love coming back to the wizarding world, and the new summer feature is a real delight.

“It was an enormous part of our experience filming The Harry Potter film series – to be involved with the amazing work of the design department. To be reminded of that has made my day.

Oliver Phelps added: “Being back on the set reunited with Bonnie and Mark has been absolutely superb – it’s like coming into a time warp, like no time has passed at all since we were last together.”

The family reunion at the Studio Tour is well timed, as research reveals that when asked to rank their top three favourite scenes, fans voted Harry Potter meeting the Weasleys on the way to Platform 9 ¾ on average as their third most-loved moment from the film (29%).

Taking the top spot is the iconic scene where Harry Potter receives his Hogwarts letter at Number Four Privet Drive (31%) – brought to life at the Studio Tour with hundreds of acceptance letters flying from the fireplace. Close behind in second place is Harry’s first visit to Ollivanders to receive his wand (30%), which fans can also visit at the Studio Tour as they make their way through Diagon Alley.

And it’s not just Weasleys getting back together, as a number of behind-the-scenes filmmakers also joined the magical reunion. Pierre Bohanna (Head Prop Maker), Gary Tomkins (Art Director), Nick Pelham (Storyboard Artist), Glen Gathard (Sound Designer), MinaLima (Graphic Design duo), Amanda Knight (Makeup Designer) and Rob Bliss (Concept Artist) all took part in the celebrations, reflecting on the film making legacy of the series.;

Commenting on the reunion, Gary Tomkins said: “My main role on the first film was to help create the drawings for the Hogwarts castle model that you can still see today at the Studio Tour.

“It feels fantastic to see so many of the crew and actors back on the sets we all worked on all those years ago that everyone knows and loves so much. I always love coming back here – it really keeps the magic alive and is such a great opportunity to show the close-up details of the film.

For fans’ second favourite scene of the film, the Graphics and the Props Departments joined forces to create over 17,000 wand boxes at Ollivanders Wand Shop in Diagon Alley. And Harry Potter’s first broomstick? The Props Department went through 25 different iterations of the Nimbus 2000 before settling on the final version.

Not to mention the iconic Great Hall set which took 18 whole weeks to build! Now, 25 years later fans are invited to discover the craftsmanship behind these moments first-hand at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

To continue the 25th anniversary celebrations, the Studio Tour is taking fans back to the very beginning, with the launch of its summer feature, ‘First Year at Hogwarts – Where the Filmmaking Magic Began’, bringing classic moments to life from Harry Potter’s first-year of adventures.

From 7th May 2026, before beginning the tour, visitors will be able to relive the moment where Harry Potter experiences the Sorting Hat. In the Great Hall, Gryffindor house banners and floating hats will hang proudly above the tables – capturing the moment first-year students toss them into the air in celebration of Neville winning Gryffindor the House Cup.

The new feature also showcases other beloved moments, including Hermione Granger casting the Petrificus Totalus spell on Neville Longbottom in the Gryffindor common room, plus, how flying lessons and Quidditch matches were brought to life on the demonstration stage and even a brand-new Wizard’s Chess photo opportunity, featuring moving pieces.

Geoff Spooner, Senior Vice President, WBD Global Experiences EMEA, says: “This summer, we’re celebrating 25 years since Harry Potter first began his journey at Hogwarts, a story that has enchanted generations, and our new summer feature invites fans right back into the very heart of that magic.

“Reuniting Bonnie, James, Oliver, and Mark to the original authentic film sets for this milestone makes it all the more special, as they step back into those unforgettable moments and reminisce about the film that started it all.”

First Year at Hogwarts – Where the Filmmaking Magic Began’ is a brand-new special feature running from 7th May to 7th September 2026, with all new additions included in the ticket price.

DRAGON ALERT: Harry Potter dragon headed your way!

  • A replica of the Hungarian Horntail dragon which featured in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire is coming to Edinburgh
  • Complete with a moving head, mouth and eyes, the hydraulic dragon roars and bares its teeth to visitors and was created to celebrate the new Triwizard Tournament – Making of Champions feature at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter
  • The dragon will stop off in Edinburgh as part of a UK tour, aiming to take a piece of filmmaking magic from Warner Bros. Studio Tour London to fans across the country
  • People visiting Castle Street, Edinburgh will be able to get close to an iconic movie moment and have the opportunity to win tickets to see the full feature at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London

Edinburgh will have a rare chance to interact with a piece of Harry Potter filmmaking magic history later this week (30th and 31st May).

A Hungarian Horntail dragon will be landing at Castle Street, Edinburgh in a special appearance outside of its rightful home at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. Visitors will be able to get up close and personal with the magical creature, which fans will recognise from Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, experiencing its ability to roar, move and even give passersby a delightful wink of its eye.

The huge animatronic dragon, which weighs 1.3 tonnes, brings to life the fan favourite, nail-biting scene where Harry Potter’s Hungarian Horntail breaks free of its chains during the first task in the Triwizard Tournament.

The dragon was created to mark the launch of the new ‘Triwizard Tournament – Making of Champions’ feature at the Studio Tour, running from 15th May to 8th September 2025. The new feature celebrates the 20th anniversary of the cinematic release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and invites visitors to go behind-the-scenes of the Triwizard Tournament to discover how filmmakers created the iconic competition we see and love on-screen.

As well as having the rare opportunity to come face to face with a legend of the wizarding world, fans seeing the dragon on tour will have the chance to win tickets to ‘Triwizard Tournament – Making of Champions through an exclusive competition.

Harry Potter filmmaker and Animatronic Designer, Joe Scott, designed the dragon , replicating the creature in the fourth film, complete with a moving head, mouth and eyes and sound effects.

The skilled recreation of the famous dragon was carefully crafted over 750 hours, using materials that included 40 metres of fiberglass. The team first created a series of detailed sketches and CGI mock-ups, before Sculptors, Carpenters and Scenic Artists meticulously built the dragon’s head, which was 3D printed using a scan of the original Hungarian Horntail from the film.

A total of 119 spikes were individually applied to garnish the dragon’s head and tail, taking 265 painstaking hours, whilst 38 razor-sharp teeth were 3D printed in resin to create bite in the creature’s animatronic mouth.

The stunning creature will give visitors a preview of the new summer feature at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where for the first-time ever, fans can explore the Backlot Stage, showcasing the Secrets of Special Effects. This new, dedicated indoor space, offers visitors the opportunity to discover how filmmakers brought the action-packed scenes from the Triwizard Tournament to life.

Comprising a digital screen, a stage and tiered seating, it promises to uncover secrets that not even the most knowledgeable Muggle will know. From creating the Hungarian Horntail dragon to understanding how Harry Potter held his breath for so long underwater, all will be revealed as part of the feature.

Visitors can also witness a mesmerising demonstration reminiscent of the Beauxbaton and Durmstrang students’ arrival, featuring Beauxbaton’s iconic blue dresses as seen in the film.

Geoff Spooner, Senior Vice President at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London says: “We’re excited to launch our brand-new summer feature, Triwizard Tournament – Making of Champions, where visitors can learn behind-the-scenes secrets of the fourth Harry Potter film.

“To celebrate and bring the magic of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London to fans across the UK we recreated the iconic moment of the escaped Hungarian Horntail dragon 20 years on from ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

Further additions to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London summer feature include Mad-Eye Moody’s arrival into the Great Hall and wizarding journalist Rita Skeeter, best known for her poison pen articles.

The dragon will land at Castle Street, Edinburgh at 1pm on the 30th and 9am on the 31st May. For those wanting to see more, the Triwizard Tournament – Making of Champions is a special feature at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London running from 15th May – 8th September and all new additions are included in the ticket price.

  • There are six magical locations to explore, including Glen Etive, Glenfinnan Viaduct, and Loch Morar
  • The Harry Potter road trip takes 7 hours 54 minutes to complete by car

As the fifth most popular filming location in Europe, Scotland has provided a beautiful backdrop for countless Hollywood blockbusters over recent decades.

Drive 40 minutes further and drivers will find the most iconic Harry Potter filming location in Scotland: Glenfinnan Viaduct. Potterheads will certainly recognise this stunning railway viaduct from the Chamber of Secrets’ unforgettable flying car sequence.

The penultimate stop on the road trip route is Loch Morar, which eagle-eyed fans will immediately recognise as Hogwarts Lake from the Prisoner of Azkaban. Then, a long drive across the Scottish Highlands will reveal the very last filming location on the map: Black Rock Gorge. Small group escapes to the wizarding world

With Harry Potter’s birthday (31 July) celebrated by millions of fans worldwide, there’s no better time than now to be thrown headfirst into the wonderous world.

It’s been 20 years since we first saw the winding streets of Diagon Alley, Harry’s steam train ride through the Scottish Highlands and the breath-taking towers of Hogwarts School. Small group tour operator Rabbie’s (www.rabbies.com) is here to help Potter fans re-live the magic with tours to iconic Harry Potter filming locations for the perfect escape into the wizarding world.

Take a small coach, not flying car, to the historic and beautiful Scottish borders

On the spectacular Northumberland coastline, an area of outstanding natural beauty, sits Alnwick Castle. This fortress doubled as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and is a wonderful site to visit for muggles and wizards alike. A tour of the castle allows guests to walk in the footsteps of Harry, Ron and Hermione, and discover the real-life history of this 11th century castle.

All this and more is available on Rabbie’s Alnwick castleNorthumberland coast & the Borders tour, a one-day trip departing from Edinburgh. Guests will also get to visit the quaint village of Kelso, with its cobbled town square and beautiful boutique shops.

A visit to one of the world’s largest and most impressive second-hand book shops in Britain also awaits guests, who may feel transported into the cosy surroundings of Hogwarts Library! Prices for this one-day tour start from £47 per person.

Witness the magic of Edinburgh and the ‘Harry Potter’ Viaduct

If Harry Potter has a spiritual home, it is Edinburgh. JK Rowling wrote the majority of the series here and visitors will see how the beautiful city offered inspiration around every corner.

Take a wander up Victoria Street, a colourful old lane with many brightly painted shops, said to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley. For those willing to travel further afield, the Isle of Skye & West Highlands tour will take guests deep into the picturesque Scottish mountains.

The crystal lochs will remind fans of The Great Lake – mermaids and Giant Squids not guaranteed. Also, witness the Glenfinnan Viaduct – the most iconic part of the railway journey to Hogwarts. This is a four-day trip departing from Edinburgh starting from £219 per person.

It may be for muggles, but Oxford University has much to offer the Harry Potter superfan

The University of Oxford acted not only as inspiration for some Harry Potter settings, but also as a commonly used filming location. A visit to Oxford at the right time will mean you share the ancient streets with students draped in their graduation robes, a look not a million miles away from Hogwarts uniform.

On the Oxford & Traditional Cotswold Villages tour, eagle-eyed guests will enjoy seeing the beautiful New College Courtyard where Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson discuss the dragons that they will soon be facing in the Triwizard tournament. A visit to the charming Cotswold villages is truly magical in its own right. You’ll be in need of a chocolate frog after all this excitement!

This one-day tour departs from London with prices from £65 per person.

With social distancing measures in place, reduced group sizes and increased cleaning measures, Rabbie’s offers worry-free journeys for a sustainable staycation.

Harry Potter spends his birthday at Sick Kids!

On the run up to Harry Potter’s birthday on the 31st of July the Royal Hospital for Sick Children was transformed into The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  It wasn’t magic that caused the metamorphosis, it was the amazing effort, talent and teamwork of the staff and children which made it all come together!

Each ward’s name changed to reflect their magical purpose with ‘Diagnostic Alley’, ‘Haemogoblyn’ and ‘Surgical Snape’ to name a few. Beautiful installations were created to match including huge floating Harry Potter glasses and dragons swooping down from the ceiling. There were always more details to be discovered and enjoyed such as opportunities to free Dobby by decorating a sock.

Throughout the week the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity’s (ECHC) Arts Programme ran lots of exciting Harry Potter themed activities. Artists used projectors to create immersive environments for flying cars and children and families were invited to take part in classic Hogwarts classes such as Transfiguration class using 3D printing pens. Potter super-fans were also taken on a virtual Potter Trail and learned all the secrets behind the creation of the books.

ECHC also gave out awards to each ward to highlight the team’s talent. ‘Best Name’ went to ‘HuffnCough’, and the ward which split their space into Hogwarts and Diagon Alley won ‘Best Narrative’ by naming each bed space after a different magical shop.

Feedback from staff has been very positive ‘[The week] has been amazing at pulling everyone together and making the hospital look great’ and ‘It has created such a positive buzz around the hospital’.

Harry’s birthday was aptly celebrated with a Magic Show with ECHC’s resident magician, Tricky Ricky.

ECHC would like to thank the staff and children who worked so hard to make the hospital a truly magical place!
