Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has sent his best wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid al-Adha
Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: “I would like to send my best wishes to Muslims across the world who are celebrating Eid al-Adha, marking the end of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.
“We remember all of those killed and injured in the terrible accident at the Grand Mosque and our thoughts are with their families at this time.
“As Muslims gather with their families I wish you a peaceful and joyous Eid al-Adha.
“Eid Mubarak.”
Advice from the Charity Commission on how to give safely during Eid-al-Adha
Eid-al-Adha is a time of very generous charitable giving. People have a right to feel confident that their generosity is not abused and that their donations are being used for legitimate charitable purposes.

As part of its campaign #changethepicture the commission has produced a video for encouraging people to check before they give. It illustrates how people can help make sure their generosity makes a real difference to those in need by giving to legitimate, registered charities.
Expect all things active travel at Inverleith Park this Sunday, when the first Inverleith On Foot and By Bike festival will take place.
From unicycling to orienteering, walking football and bike proficiency, the event will feature a range of activities aimed to change local people’s walking and cycling habits.
Organised by Inverleith Neighbourhood Partnership and funded by Transport Scotland through Paths for All, the family-friendly event will also feature a live broadcast of the Tour of Britain finale via a bike-powered cinema!
Transport Convener and Champion of the Inverleith Active Travel Forum, Councillor Lesley Hinds, said: “Increasing walking and cycling is a key priority both in Inverleith and for the Council as a whole, and what better way to encourage the public than through a variety of free, fun and creative activities.
“I hope to see lots of people, of all ages and abilities, coming along to Inverleith Park this Sunday to discover just how rewarding active travel can be.”
The Inverleith Neighbourhood Partnership is working towards four key objectives identified by the local community, which will improve the quality of life of people living, working and visiting the area. These are:
Sunday’s event will tackle all four priorities, welcoming people of all ages and abilities, whether they have never considered walking for fun or if they want to chat about taking their cycling skill to the next level.
Other activities on offer will include taster jogging sessions, bike security marking and the opportunity to ‘bling up your bike’. In addition, a range of prizes will be up for grabs, such as a day’s bike hire, a month’s gym membership or new pedometers and backpacks.
The Inverleith On Foot and By Bike festival is run by the Inverleith Neighbourhood Partnership with support from local bike shops Ronde, Gamma and Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, as well as a host of walking, cycling and physical activity organisations, and takes place on Sunday 13 September from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Inspired by the movies and video games of the zombie genre, The Generation of Z is a multimedia horror play on steroids that takes a chainsaw to the fourth wall
After two hugely successful seasons in New Zealand , Royale Productions are bringing their fully interactive immersive Zombie Horror experience to the Edinburgh Festival.
The Generation of Z is a site-specific, immersive, theatrical event set within the maelstrom of a zombie apocalypse. There are no seats, no stage, no niceties and definitely no “fourth wall”. As a zombie you’ll play an integral part, you are in the thick of it from the first gunshot to its violent and thrilling finale. You will be made up in Hollywood style zombie make up and trained on how to be a zombie by our friends at ScareScotland. You will be trained by some of the best professional scare actors in the country at the Undead Academy.
All zombies will be volunteers, and we can guarantee you a whole lot of fun as you scare the audience witless.
We ask that you attend the “Undead Academy” on the 20th July( venue tbc) and fill in the registration form that will be emailed to you.
No performance experience is required. This event will be running for three weeks from the 31 July -25 August with two performances a night. We don’t expect you to be able to take part in the full run, but to perform when you can. The more you perform the more fun you can have.

the Love Multiculture Hate Racism Festival
celebrating our multi-cultural society with music, song, dance and comedy.
The festival line-up just gets better and better. In the last week we have confirmed: Bollywood dancers, award winning singer Penny Stone, an Indian Stick Dancer, acoustic sets from James Campbell & Scottish folk singer Eileen Penman.
The daytime cultural event will start at 3pm with jazz from Alistair McDonald backed by “Quatro Macjazz”! Between 3 and 7pm we will squeeze in a packed lineup including an African choir, Indian and Kurdish dance workshops, Indian head massage, drummers, Henna Hand painting and speeches by Show Racism the Red Card and Martin Smith from Unite Against Fascism.
Asian and Turkish food, tea and coffee and entry is by donation.
The comedy packed evening will start with the BAFTA nominated rapper Northern Xposure who has performed with Dizzee Rascal and Amy Winehouse. Then Scottish Comedian of the Year runner up Rick Molland will MC a night of four rowdy
comedians, headlined by “the lord of filth” Richard Coughlan. Your entry fee of £5 includes a free curry courtesy of the Kasbah restaurant and there will be an all-night bar. Doors open at 7.30pm, the event starts at 8pm.
Both these events will be hosted at the Summerhall Art Gallery which is showing a great exhibition of anti-racist posters. Entry from Hope Park Terrace – we apologise but there is no wheelchair access.
