Police are appealing for information after a man was found seriously injured yesterday (Tuesday, 11 July). The 30-year-old was found around 2.20pm on Albert Street.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
Enquiries have established a group of around six men wearing dark clothing were seen in the area at the time.
Detective Inspector Martin Smith said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact officers.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1853 of 11 July, 2023.
“Alternatively, details can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
POLICE are re-appealing for information on the whereabouts of 39-year-old Sean McGovern, a prisoner who absconded from HMP Castle Huntly.
Sean was reported missing to police around 10pm on Sunday, 11 June. The most recent information provided to police is that he may have travelled to the Edinburgh or Lothian area. However, despite extensive enquiries and searches, he has not yet been traced.
He is described as white, around 5ft 8ins in height and of stocky build with a scar on his right cheek.
When he absconded he was wearing a dark-coloured woollen hat and a dark-coloured long sleeved top, with light-coloured trousers and trainers.
Officers are again advising members of the public not to approach him if they see him but to contact police.
Anyone who has seen Sean since Sunday evening, or who has any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact 101 with reference 4025 of 11 June. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers through 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
Police are appealing for information following the death of a 30-year-old man in Edinburgh last night.
Around 7.45pm on Friday, 2 June, 2023, officers were called to a report of a disturbance on Leith Street near to the junction with Greenside Row.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.
His death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
His relatives are aware and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Extensive enquiries carried out have revealed a number of people were involved in the disturbance and a 41-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment.
A 46-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a minor assault.
Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and officers will be in the area working on this investigation.
“The area would have been busy at the time of the incident and we are encouraging anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance to get in touch.
“I am also keen to speak to anyone with any CCTV, dashcam or any other footage that they think would assist the enquiry.
“We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.”

UPDATE: POLICE SET UP ONLINE PORTAL
Officers investigating the death of a 30-year-old man in Edinburgh have set up an online portal for members of the public to submit information.
Extensive enquiries are continuing and we have set up a link to our Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) that allows members of the public to send information directly to officers.
POLICE are appealing for information following a crash on the Edinburgh city by-pass. The incident happened around 12.30 pm on Sunday, 21 May, 2023 on the A720 westbound between the Millerhill junction and Sheriffhall roundabout.
A blue Harley Davidson motorcycle was struck by a dark Blue BMW SUV, which failed to stop.
Police Constable Stewart Logan of the Road Policing Unit said: “The 51-year-old male motorcyclist and 33-year-old female pillion passenger were left badly shaken, but did not require medical treatment.
“They were knocked into the side of a passing caravan, resulting in them falling onto the roadway. The driver towing the caravan stopped and assisted. There will likely be some damage to the near side body panels of the SUV.
“We are looking for any witnesses or any motorists who have dash-cam footage, you may have captured something that can assist our enquiries. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting 1851 of 21 May, 2023.”
Detectives in Edinburgh have renewed an appeal for information in connection with an attempted murder in the Davidson Mains area.
The incident happened on Main Street around 12.05am on Friday, 21 April, 2023.
A 20-year-old had been in a pub on Main Street and left the premises at around midnight.
Soon after leaving the bar, three men, dressed in dark coloured clothing and balaclavas, attacked the man with a weapon.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance with serious injuries.
Enquiries have established a dark coloured 4×4 vehicle, possibly a Range Rover, closely followed by a smaller light coloured car, possibly a Vauxhall Corsa, and a further light coloured vehicle were driving from Quality Street onto Main Street around 12.01am on the date of the attack.
A pedal cyclist also travels from Cramond Road South onto Quality Street at the time and returns minutes later.
Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “None of these vehicles were involved in the attack but they passed the area shortly before or while the incident was ongoing.
“The occupants may have information which could help our investigation so if this was you please get in touch and speak to our officers. If you believe this was you and you have kept dashcam footage then again we would be keen to review this.
“I would also urge anyone else who may have information about the incident but has not yet spoken to police to get in touch as soon as you can.

POLICE are appealing for information after a man was found seriously injured in the Calder Road area yesterday (Sunday, 19 March, 2023).
The 30-year-old man was found unconscious in Calder Road underpass around 12.05am.
He is described as white, male, average build, 5ft 10 ins with brown hair. At the time he was wearing jeans, grey hoodie and white Converse trainers. He could have been walking west on Calder Road near to Saughton Mains Avenue.
Detective Sergeant Alan Sharp said: “There is nothing at this time to suggest that any crime has taken place, however we are carrying out enquiries to find out how the man came about his injuries.
“I’d appeal to anyone who saw a man matching the above description walking in the Calder Road, Saughton area, or drivers with dash-cam footage who may have passed him as he was walking home to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 0064 of March 19.”
Police in Edinburgh have released images of a man they believe may have information that can assist them with their enquiries into a serious assault that occurred on Greenside Place, Edinburgh, at around 12.30am on Monday, 23 January 2023.
The man is described as white, around 30 to 40 years of age, and of a medium build. He was wearing a multi-coloured hooded top and dark-coloured jeans.
Constable Euan Murray of Gayfield Police Station said: “A 28-year-old man was treated for serious injuries as a result of this incident. We would ask that the man in the images or anyone who may recognise him to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Road Policing officers are continuing enquiries following a fatal road crash on Haymarket Terrace.
A 79-year-old man died in the collision. He can be named as Allan Moir from Edinburgh. Mr Moir’s family has made the following statement:
“We would like to thank the police, paramedics and members of the public who tried to save our beloved Dad and Grandad. As a family, we ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

POLICE are appealing for information following a crash on Ratcliffe Terrace.
The incident happened around 8.45am last Thursday (26 January), and involved a cyclist and a blue Vauxhall Corsa.
The cyclist, a 27-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
No one else was injured and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

POLICE are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the A702 at Boghall, near Penicuik, yesterday.
The incident happened around 1.25pm on Thursday, 12 January, and involved a black Suzuki GSF 650 motorbike and a white Kia Sportage car.
Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist, a man aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed in both directions for crash investigation work to take place and re-opened around 6pm.
Sergeant Iain McIntrye said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died and our enquiries into the circumstances of what happened are ongoing.
“I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened and anyone driving in the area who has dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation to please get in touch.”
