Celebrate Earth Day with Wardie Bay Beachwatch

Dear All,

Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday 12:30 sharp for our next MCS Beachwatch survey and beach clean to celebrate Earth Day.
I attach results from last time (see below). It was even worse than the same time last year. The Beast from the East brought rather a lot of litter on the angry waves, and 35.1% sewage again. We really need this to be sorted in the 21st Century, unless we’re happy with the sea being one almighty toilet.
On Sunday, there will be opportunity to go for drinks afterwards in Leith at various venues to catch up with the whole Changeworks, Zero Waste Leith, Leither’s Don’t Litter main event.
Please come to us, or join any event in Leith. Our fabulous Anna L-C from Boda Bars will be plogging the shoreline between Leith and Wardie Beach. All details of events are here in the Zero Waste Leith Overview: Earth Day Community Clear Ups.
See you Sunday! Gloves and litter picking equipment provided but please bring kids gloves if you have them.
Best wishes
Karen

Granton plans ‘not good enough’, say Wardie Bay residents

Scathing criticism of Lower Granton Road improvement proposals
Wardie Bay Residents say that the proposed cycle path for Lower Granton Road is not good enough for the Waterfront.  The local campaigners say the proposal falls far behind the quality required of the Waterfront Promenade strategy in terms of design, scope and quality of materials proposed and add that it could be a huge waste of money if either the tram or the long awaited road realignment go ahead.

Wardie Bay Beachwatch rescheduled again

Now it’s SUNDAY 11 March from 10.30am

Ok… I’m sorry. Yet again, I’ve had to postpone.

I didn’t need to do this once last year, but my priority is a decent and thorough data survey & beachclean 🏖

The beach really needs it. It’s currently covered in tyres and sewage waste and, of course, oceans of plastic. Nature is choking.
I also want us to do a nurdle hunt for those insidious plastic pellets directly from industry waste.
Saturday’s weather forecast is obviously awful! 🌊
We can’t do a decent job in torrential rain & wind. So. please join our growing army on Sunday!!! I really need you to come this weekend.
The more the merrier. Many hands make light work. etc. etc.

With love

Karen
p.s.  Bring your Mums!  & please help spread the word. 💙

Wardie Bay Beachwatch cancelled

This Saturday’s event cancelled … rescheduled for Saturday 10 March

Please note & help spread the word that our next Marine Conservation Society Wardie Bay Beachwatch has had to be postponed. A beach survey would not be fun or productive with the snow forecast for Saturday 3rd. 🌨

This is the 1st day of meteorological Spring! 🌬

We will enjoy the day next Saturday #climatechange #behaviourchangeSea Champions Scotland
