We work providing high quality training and CPD for staff, core training for people with lived experience of mental health and/or addiction to work/volunteer as peer support worker or educators and for people currently experiencing mental health issues and/or addiction in order to provide self-education and advocacy.
We are launching our new programme (below) and I would be most grateful if you could distribute among your networks.

Our sick society?

Terri Smith is a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, where she represents Edinburgh Northern and Leith. She is also a young woman with health problems. Read her experience of facing a DWP appeal yesterday – and ask yourself what sort of country we’ve become …

I’ve never felt so belittled and demoralised in my life until today. I was in court this morning fighting against the DWP’s decision to declare me fit for work. Continue reading Our sick society?

Warning: bogus workmen operating in North Edinburgh

An important message from the Police to all residents in North Edinburgh:

bogus-caller

I am looking to try and spread the word regarding bogus workmen who have seemingly arrived in the north of Edinburgh recently. They are often targeted premises where the occupants are elderly and live alone.

This particular “bogus” initiative involves 2 males knocking at the door stating that there is a roof tile missing etc, and this can be fixed for £800.00.

They then suggest they carry out a survey in the attic and one of the males goes up into the attic space and bring down a piece of rotten wood with them claiming that it has come from the roof. They then offer to take a deposit of a few hundred pounds to cover the cost of the materials, and if they don’t have the cash then they request a visa card and that money is withdrawn from an ATM.

Please note that the males do not have any ID and their van is not marked. It is the usual white panel van.

If you could possibly pass this on to your email groups and ask them to
spread the word in a bid to stop these people taking advantage of our
elderly residents that would be much appreciated. I will going to attend
groups in the coming weeks to also pass this message on face to face.

Kindest regards

Craigroyston community meeting cancelled

Craigroyston HS

Tomorow’s Craigroyston Community Centre meeting has been postponed as rooms in the school’s community wing are being used by displaced primary school classes.

Craigroyston Community Centre chairperson Vanessa Cousins said: “We are having to reschedule the meeting planned for the 18th as Craigroyston Primary are having to use the rooms due to the problems with the schools in the area. We as the community are fully supporting this measure and are more than happy to help and change plans for the children. We will let you know the revised date.”

The Craigroyston group recently announced that the committee plans to mount a campaign to save community facilities in the Pennywell Road school, which they say are under threat once again.
