Building work underway at the Western General Hospital will enhance the care and treatment of patients by providing high quality services in improved physical environments.

Designed to reduce the number of people being delayed leaving hospital and improve the care patients receive in their own community, Edinburgh’s ‘home first’ approach sets out plans to shift health and social care systems to provide greater support for people in their own or familiar surroundings. Every day, in hospital wards and clinics across NHS Lothian, the gratitude and generosity of patients and relatives is on display through cards and gifts given as a ‘thank you’ for the care provided by staff.

Courage and perseverance: living with diabetes

Kay Malloch, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, recently presented 91 year-old Evelyn Emslie, who has diabetes, with the John MacLeod Medal.
