A 58-year-old American man has died in hospital three weeks after a being hit by a van in Trinity.
The victim has been named by police as Doctor William Noel from Philadelphia. His family has asked for privacy.
Mr Noel was a pedestrian at the time of the collision, which happened on Trinity Crescent around 5.50pm on Wednesday 10 April, and also involved a white Citroen Relay van.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died as a result of his injuries last night.
The driver of the van, a 40-year-old man, was arrested and released pending further enquiries.
Officers have previously appealed for a female nurse who came to Dr Noel’s aid but left prior to police arrival to come forward. She has since been identified and has assisted with enquiries.

Road Policing officers are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash on South Groathill Avenue at Queensferry Road South.
The incident, which happened around 7.10am on Wednesday, 17 April, 2024, involved a red and white DAF truck and a pedestrian.
Emergency services attended and a 58-year-old woman, the pedestrian, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Her condition has been described as critical but stable.
The road was closed for around two hours to allow for investigations to take place.
Sergeant Louise Birrell said: “Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing and we would like to ask anyone that was in the area at the time who has not already spoken to us to please get in touch.
“We would also be keen to see any dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area around the time of the crash. In particular, there was a blue BMW X2 which was stationary at the time and may have information which could assist.”

An 11-year-old boy has died following a collision on Whitehouse Loan in Cramond.The Cramond P7 pupil who died after being struck by a bin lorry on Friday (1st March) has been named as Thomas Wong.
His family has asked for privacy. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.
The incident happened around 8.20am on Friday, 1 March near to the junction with Braehead Road.
The boy was riding a bicycle when he was involved in a collision with a bin lorry.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.
The driver of the bin lorry was uninjured.
Inspector Andrew Thomson, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the boy’s family and friends at this time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which has not yet been passed to Police to get in touch.
“I would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.
“Specially trained officers are supporting the family at this time.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a crash on Lanark Road involving a van and a pedestrian.
The incident happened around 3.55pm yesterday (Monday, 19 February,) near the Water of Leith Visitor Centre.
Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a 41-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver, a 55-year-old man, has been charged in connection and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

An 88-year-old man has died in hospital after a serious crash on the A768 in Loanhead.The incident happened around 7am on Tuesday, 19 December at Knivensknowe Road and involved the man, who was a pedestrian, and a Honda Civic car.
The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died as a result of injuries yesterday (Saturday, 23 December).
He was walking his dog at the time of the collision which has also since passed away.
The male driver of the car did not require medical treatment.
Sergeant Grant Hastie of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our investigation into the circumstances of this collision are ongoing and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We would urge anyone who may have information which not yet been passed to police to come forward.

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a crash involving four cars on the A71, near to Calder Junction in Edinburgh.
The incident happened around 7.30am on Tuesday, 10 October, 2023.
Emergency services attended and the 53-year-old male driver of an orange Ford Ranger was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
The road was closed for collision investigation and reopened at 10.40am.

Today Broughton High will be hosting the formal unveiling of the brand new memorial plaque and sculpture erected in honour of the memory of five High School students – Leif Rohde, Paul Taylor, Billy Feachen, Carol McGowan and Melody Mak – who sadly lost their lives together in a tragic road accident on Queensferry Road on 13 March 1990.
The plaque was designed and commissioned by relatives of those young people. There are 5 daffodils to represent each student, complementing the 5 memorial trees that were planted by the sculpture & plaque after the accident.
The unveiling marks the conclusion of a project that has been years in the planning.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision between a car and two pedestrians in Edinburgh yesterday (Saturday, 24 June 2023).
Around 1.30 pm, an 88-year-old man and an 86-year-old woman were struck by a black Subaru whilst crossing West Mains Road at Mayfield Road.
The couple were taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where they remain for treatment. Medical staff describe their condition as stable.
The 80-year-old female driver of the Subaru was not injured following the incident.
Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick, Roads Policing Unit, Livingston, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information, including dash-cam footage.

Road policing officers in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a crash on the A90 at Cramond Bridge.
Around 2.55pm on Monday, 20 February, 2023 police were called to the collision involving a red Ford Focus and a blue Fiat Panda.
The 78-year-old male driver and 71-year-old female passenger of the Fiat were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance. The 55-year-old male driver of the Ford was not injured.
The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and fully reopened around 7pm.
