Port of Leith’s sheltered housing team shines at national awards

Port of Leith Housing Association’s sheltered housing team have won an award for brining the Scottish Social Services (SSS) Council’s codes of practice to life at the SSS Awards, which recognise best practice and individuals who are making a real difference to the lives of the people they support.

Maureen Tait, Sheltered Housing Services Manager, Port of Leith Housing Association said: “We’re thrilled that we have been singled out for this award. Our whole team has worked together to make the Scottish Social Services Council’s codes and values real and meaningful to our staff and tenants.

“We have also developed a team charter which demonstrates our staff’s values and beliefs, and shows our tenants that we’re committed to excellent service delivery. It’s fantastic that the team’s hard work and dedication has been recognised. I’m really proud of them.”

Port of Leith to build a further 850 new affordable homes

Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) has confirmed plans to build 850 new homes over the next 5 years. This is an extra 154 more new homes by 2020 – and total of 370 more over the next five years than the Association had previously planned.

Another terrific year for TOiL

Port of Leith Housing Association’s (POLHA) TOiL Programme (Training Opportunities in Lothian) has supported 35 young people from across Edinburgh and East Lothian to complete an 18 week training programme with an local employer with 21 progressing to employment, apprenticeship or further education following their training. Volunteers from PoLCAT and Mitie Painting, the UK’s largest painting contractor, pitched in to help repaint the hall. They included Mitie’s famous mascot Mitie Mouse, office staff, foreman painter and a new apprentice who had successfully completed Port of Leith’s TOiL trainee programme. Port of Leith summer fayres raise £2000

Two of Port of Leith Housing Association’s (PoLHA) sheltered housing complexes have raised over £2,000 at their summer fayres.

St Nicholas Court, on Ferry Road, and Hermitage Court had an array of stalls, including a raffle, tombola, home baking, bric-a-brac and books. The funds raised will go towards supporting activities for all tenants to enjoy, such as day trips, theatre trips, exercise classes and lunch clubs.

Maureen Tait, PoLHA’s Sheltered Housing Services Manager, said: “Our summer fayres are fast approaching their 20th anniversary and have always attracted a good turnout. We’re very fortunate to have the support from the local community, and our tenants and their family and friends as they know how important the activities are in getting our tenants out and about.”
