Forever Edinburgh unveils Resident Days celebrating Edinburgh locals

Forever Edinburgh has unveiled its 2026 Resident Days programme, building on the success of last year’s launch which saw over 1,000 EH postcode holders enjoy exclusive access to attractions, tours and experiences across the capital.

Following a strong response to the inaugural programme, Resident Days returns with an expanded calendar of themed moments throughout the year. Delivered in partnership with a wide range of Resident Rewards partners, the initiative continues to give back to the people who power Edinburgh’s visitor economy by offering exclusive deals for those who call the city home.

Resident Days will give Edinburgh residents exclusive rewards, including discounted access to a range of leisure, hospitality and cultural experiences across the city from almost 30 organisations. This is running alongside the Resident Rewards programme, which offers residents access to exclusive deals and discounts throughout the year.

The 2026 programme begins with World Heritage Day on Saturday 18 April, celebrating Edinburgh’s rich history and internationally recognised heritage.

Residents will be able to enjoy a range of exclusive offers including 2-for-1 tickets at The Royal Yacht Britannia, a discounted Three Bridges Cruise with Forth Boat Tours, 50 per cent off food at Canopy Kitchen & Courtyard and a special rate for a round of golf at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, encouraging locals to rediscover the stories, locations and experiences that have shaped Edinburgh’s heritage.

The themed days continue across the year, each shining a spotlight on different communities and interests:

  • Father’s Day – Sunday 21 June 2026
  • World Tourism Day – Sunday 27 September 2026
  • Silver Sunday – Sunday 04 October 2026
  • World Children’s Day – Friday 20 November 2026

Across the programme, residents can expect everything from discounted tours and trails to free exhibitions, exclusive entry to attractions, money off treatments, as well as food and drink deals.

Several participating businesses also boast strong accessibility credentials, with attractions such as Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Edinburgh Bus Tours and The Royal Yacht Britannia offering accessible facilities and experiences, supporting the programme’s ambition to make participation as inclusive as possible.

Forever Edinburgh partners with Civerinos to launch ‘Local Legends’ pizzas for National Pizza Day

Forever Edinburgh is teaming up with Edinburgh favourite Civerinos to fire up National Pizza Day tomorrow (Monday 9 February) with the launch of two bold limited-edition pizzas, created with standout local ingredients and available only across the capital for a short time.

Created to celebrate Edinburgh’s dynamic food scene and the makers behind it, the ‘Local Legends: The Scotch Capital’ pizzas bring together punchy local flavours and Civerinos’ New Haven style craft, with both a meat and a vegetarian option designed to stand out on the menu and on the plate.

As part of Forever Edinburgh’s Resident Rewards programme, residents with an EH postcode can enjoy 50 percent off the special ‘Local Legends’ pizzas when dining in on National Pizza Day meaning residents can enjoy this exclusive £15 pizza for just £7.50. The pizzas will be available until they sell out across Civerinos’ Edinburgh locations in Leith, Stockbridge, Forrest Road, Hunter Square and Lost Shore.

Alongside the National Pizza Day offer, Civerinos will also offer 20 percent off all full-sized pizzas for residents dining in from Monday to Thursday for the remainder of February, helping locals enjoy great food for less beyond the celebration.

The meat pizza features a marinara base topped with mozzarella from Yester Farm, scotch bonnet chillies, rosemary roasted potato, seasoned sausage meat from Campbells Prime Meat, parmesan and a finishing drizzle of whisky-infused Scottish heather honey made using Woven Whisky.

The vegetarian option showcases a sweet potato base topped with crispy kale, sea salt and truffle whipped ricotta, celebrating ingredients long associated with Scottish cooking.

Forever Edinburgh marks Carers Rights Day and St Andrew’s Day with new Resident Days

Forever Edinburgh is inviting residents to enjoy the next instalments of Resident Days, with dedicated rewards and experiences to mark Carers Rights Day on Thursday 20 November and St Andrew’s Day on Sunday 30 November.

These dates form part of the ongoing Resident Rewards programme, which thanks local people for their contribution to Edinburgh’s visitor economy by giving them exclusive access to free or discounted attractions, tours and cultural experiences across the city.

The upcoming Carers Rights Day Resident Day will recognise and support the city’s unpaid carers, delivered in partnership with Shared Care Scotland and VOCAL Carers Hub. A range of free and discounted offers will give carers the chance to take a well deserved break, unwind and reconnect with their city.

Later in the month, the St Andrew’s Day Resident Day will celebrate Scotland’s national day, with local businesses offering special rates and unique experiences for Edinburgh residents.

Together, these events encourage communities to rediscover the world class culture, hospitality and heritage on their doorstep.

Forever Edinburgh launches new Resident Days as a celebration of Edinburgh residents

Forever Edinburgh has announced the launch of Resident Days, a brand-new initiative giving people who live in the capital exclusive opportunities to enjoy free or discounted access to local attractions, tours and experiences.

This is running alongside the Resident Rewards programme – which offers residents access to exclusive deals and discounts all year.

Resident Days builds on the success of Resident Rewards Edinburgh: Gives Back, which saw Forever Edinburgh, OneCity Trust and local tourism businesses offering hundreds of free experiences for those facing challenging circumstances in our city and the St Andrew’s Day: Resident Special, which gave special discounted rates for key Edinburgh attractions for Scotland’s national day.

Resident Days will give Edinburgh residents exclusive rewards including a range of free and half-price access to leisure, hospitality and cultural experiences across the city from almost 30 organisations.

The initiative will run across four dates between September 2025 and January 2026, starting with World Tourism Day on Saturday 27 September 2025, which will see offers like half price green fees at Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society, free tours at Scotch Whisky Experience and two for one tickets for the Ghostly Tales of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile tour from Mercat Tours.

A set amount of each offer is available, so residents need to be quick to snap them up.

Later days are:

  • Carers Rights Day – Friday 21 November 2025 – exclusively for unpaid carers in Edinburgh
  • St Andrew’s Day – Sunday 30 November 2025
  • Burns Night – Sunday 25 January 2026

Resident Days are part of Forever Edinburgh’s Resident Rewards programme and have been designed to thank local people for their role in supporting the city’s visitor economy.

Forever Edinburgh has launched the winter phase of its ‘Stay Different’ campaign, inviting visitors to discover an entirely different side of the city during the colder months, a season when Edinburgh reveals some of its most atmospheric, authentic and unexpected experiences. 

Building on the year-round message to stay longer, immerse and explore the rich neighbourhoods beyond the city centre, the new campaign celebrates what makes winter in Edinburgh a truly magical time of year, highlighting seasonal specials and winter-exclusive events that make Edinburgh a one-of-a-kind winter destination.

From mist-shrouded, atmospheric strolls through the city’s Gothic and Georgian streets to early sunsets and the city’s icons painted during golden hour.

And from braving the elements to exploring Edinburgh’s wild side to seasonal Scottish flavours and heart-warming drams, cosy escapes in unique and unusual accommodation to toe-tapping events for all the family with some of Scotland’s signature celebrations – the campaign shines a light on the city, inviting everyone to enjoy the magic of winter in Edinburgh. 

Targeting domestic overnight visitors, the campaign highlights experiences that can only be enjoyed, or are at their very best, during the winter months.

Visitors can expect quieter streets, winter offers, thriving wildlife walks within easy reach of the city, the best of Scotland’s seasonal produce and unique events such as Burns Night, alongside the enduring charm of Edinburgh’s year-round heritage, culture and hospitality.

At the heart of the campaign is an immersive new winter film, capturing the unexpected sides of the city and inspiring visitors to enjoy a truly memorable winter stay. 

Delivered in partnership with local suppliers including BIG Partnership, Union Media and Spirit Media, the integrated campaign features high-impact digital content, advertising including out-of-home, video on demand, radio and PR.

A rolling programme of monthly creative themes will drive story-led web and social media content featuring an array of local tourism experiences, collaborative projects with some of the city’s most-loved businesses, and curated ‘Split Stay Stories’.

These themed long-stay itineraries form part of Forever Edinburgh’s ‘split cities’ concept, which shows how one trip to the capital can feel like several holidays in one. Visitors are encouraged to mix and match experiences, pairing culture with coast, adventure with relaxation, or food with nature, creating a stay that is richer, more diverse and truly memorable. 

Running until 2028, Stay Different is a three-year programme designed to inspire longer, more meaningful stays in Edinburgh by highlighting the diversity of experiences across the capital’s neighbourhoods, supporting the city’s 2030 Edinburgh Tourism Strategy and promoting sustainable, year-round tourism. Forever Edinburgh launches search for the city’s Local Legends

Forever Edinburgh is calling on residents to help shine a spotlight on the everyday heroes who make the city a better place to live. This is part of a reimagination of its Resident Rewards programme “For Local Legends”, celebrating the residents and businesses of Edinburgh.

From friendly shopkeepers and inspiring artists to bus drivers, lollipop ladies, community champions and beyond, this new campaign invites locals to nominate Edinburgh’s Local Legends – the people who go above and beyond, often without recognition.

Nominees will be in with a chance of winning exclusive prizes from Forever Edinburgh’s Resident Rewards partners – from afternoon teas, distillery tours and delicious meals, to unique local experiences.

Prizes have been provided by Resident Rewards partners Mimi’s Bakehouse, Malmaison, Port of Leith Distillery and the Edinburgh Marine Academy.

One especially celebrated individual will be treated to something even more special: a Legendary Local’s Day, featuring an itinerary of unforgettable Edinburgh experiences.

This will include a private tour of Lauriston Castle, where they will find out about the final private owners of Lauriston Castle – Mr and Mrs Reid and Mrs Reid’s brother, Mr Barton and see what it was like to live above and below stairs at Lauriston Castle in Edwardian times.

A nomination page has been launched on the Forever Edinburgh website, where residents can submit their nominations. Whether it’s a neighbour who runs a food bank, a youth worker changing lives or someone who simply brings joy to others, this is your chance to share their story. Nominations are open now and will close on 14 August 2025.

Submissions should include the nominee’s name and details, the nominator’s details and the reason for the nomination, with the option to allow Forever Edinburgh to share the nominee’s story on its social media channels.

All nominations will be hosted on the site, creating a growing list of the city’s everyday legends.

Edinburgh Unicorns Named in Gaelic Tradition After Being Reunited With Their Horns

Two prominent Edinburgh sculptures have been given new names after being lovingly restored to their former glory as part of a wider conservation project at one of the city’s most iconic visitor attractions.

Perched above the historic Scotch Whisky Experience at the top of the Royal Mile, the pair of unicorns, long stripped of their horns by time and weather, have now been fully reinstated through a major heritage-led restoration of the building.

A naming competition, launched in partnership with Forever Edinburgh, attracted hundreds of creative suggestions from locals and visitors alike.

The winning names, Deoch and Doras, were chosen by the public in a witty and affectionate nod to the Gaelic phrase deoch an dorais, meaning “a farewell drink” or “one for the road”, literally “drink of the door.”

One of the winners, Archie Hamilton, noted the Harry Lauder song, A Wee Deoch An Doris, which captures the spirit of the tradition, as he explained the inspiration behind the names: “Deoch an dorus’ just seemed natural for the Unicorns, our national animal.

“With Gaelic being our national language, plus the whisky link through the old Harry Lauder song, what better option!”

Julie Trevisan Hunter, Marketing Director at The Scotch Whisky Experience, said: “We were genuinely moved by the imagination and thought that people put into naming the unicorns.

“Many of the more than 1,500 suggestions reflected deep affection for Scotland’s culture, language and folklore, which is exactly the kind of connection we hope to inspire as we bring the world of Scotch whisky to life. ‘Deoch and Doras’ captured something uniquely Scottish while being warm, fun and rooted in tradition.”

Among the many entries were names drawn from Scottish landscapes and whisky regions and history, and some playful puns such as Whisker & Snifter. Others favoured names from popular children’s stories, reflecting the unicorns’ imaginative appeal across generations, and there were many Gaelic references.

Ealasaid MacDonald, Ceannard (CEO) of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the main public body for promoting and developing Gaelic language and culture in Scotland, praised the decision to use Gaelic, saying: “I was delighted to hear from the Scotch Whisky Experience that Gaelic featured so prominently in their highly successful search for strong Scottish names for their unicorns.

“This highlights the understanding and appreciation of Gaelic when we celebrate the old and the new in Scottish culture, underlining its importance as a national cultural and economic asset. I’m sure the newly restored Deoch and Doras will provide a warm Gaelic welcome to everyone that visits.”

The unicorn restoration is part of a major project to preserve the integrity of The Scotch Whisky Experience’s historic site while enhancing its visitor experience. Susan Morrison, Chief Executive of The Scotch Whisky Experience explained that:

“The building’s recent conservation programme has been guided by a deep respect for our setting next to Edinburgh Castle and a commitment to our role as gateway for the appreciation of Scotland’s national drink and rich cultural heritage. 

Deoch and Doras now feel not only restored but brought back to life by the public, with names that will interest and spark curiosity in visitors at the threshold for years to come.”

Edinburgh launches new accessibility guide for the city

Forever Edinburgh has launched a brand-new Edinburgh: Accessible Highlights Guide in partnership with award-winning Edinburgh-based disabled access charity, Euan’s Guide.

The guide highlights Edinburgh’s leading attractions, experiences and travel tips that provide facilities, products and services for people’s differing accessibility requirements. It supports Forever Edinburgh’s work to promote the city’s kaleidoscope of experiences and offerings as an ideal holiday location for everyone. Forever Edinburgh has worked closely with Euan’s Guide, a leading UK charity that helps disabled people find accessible venues.

The new guidebook reinforces the historical city’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility to allow everyone to enjoy its heritage status. Designed to help disabled visitors enjoy everything the city has to offer, it covers all 11 neighbourhoods of Edinburgh and showcases accessible experiences for all tastes – including Edinburgh’s cultural events and year-round festivals, heritage experiences, museums and galleries, sports and outdoor activities and places to stay, eat and drink.

It also provides essential practical information, such as:

  • Details on relaxed sessions and dementia-friendly spaces.
  • Venues with ground-level access and flat floors for wheelchair users.
  • Location of accessible toilets.
  • Audio-described shows and sensory-friendly experiences.
  • Links to full AccessAble Guides for applicable attractions.

Cllr Jane Meagher, leader of the City of Edinburgh Council said:  “We really want everyone to enjoy our city and to feel safe and included. That’s why I’m pleased to see this joint work with Euan’s Guide, which is a welcome move towards ensuring all visitors can fully experience the joy of our capital.

“The latest estimates indicate 16.1 million people in the UK have a disability, which is around one in four people. We also know that 21.4% of Scots have a long-term illness, disease, or condition. These figures emphasise the importance of accessibility initiatives like this, to ensure inclusivity for all.

“Plus, by enabling those with disabilities to book a stay in Edinburgh more easily and confidently, local businesses will also benefit. Alongside the guidebook, visitors can now filter businesses based on accessibility needs via The Official Guide to Edinburgh website edinburgh.org, which also integrates disability-inclusive content across its blogs, listicles, newsletters,  and wider destination marketing resources.

Forever Edinburgh offers mums the chance to win Mother’s Day treats

Forever Edinburgh is giving Edinburgh mums (and their children) the tools to create the perfect Mother’s Day through fantastic rewards and a competition with unforgettable Mother’s Day presents.

Thanks to Resident Rewards Edinburgh, one lucky mum will win an Escape At One package for two people at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa’s One Spa. This package includes access to the thermal suite, including the hydropool, crystal steam room, rock sauna and more.

Forever Edinburgh is partnering with the city’s independent bakeries and cafes to launch Edinburgh’s ultimate tasting menu. 

Collaborating with eight of the city’s top producers, Forever Edinburgh has created the Ultimate Edinburgh Menu—a unique foodie’s guide offering an alternative take on the traditional tourist map. Available for download via Forever Edinburgh’s website, this exclusive guide is perfect for visitors looking to savour the city’s finest bakes, brews, and bites.  

The menu offers an authentic, insider-led perspective. Each participating business has not only shared its own offerings but has also recommended another must-visit spot in the city. The result is a trail of unmissable cafes, bakeries, and coffee roasters, curated by those who know Edinburgh’s food scene best. 

Celebrating the capital’s blooming cafe culture, the second instalment in the Meet Edinburgh’s Makers series, ‘Bakers and Baristas’, focuses on the city’s talented bakers, baristas, and independent café owners. It will shine a spotlight on the craftspeople and artisans that have helped shape Edinburgh into one of the UK’s top destinations for food and drink experiences.

Featured in the menu are local favourites Dune Bakery, Twelve Triangles, Mimi’s Bakehouse, Patina, The Bearded Baker, Little Fitzroy, The Kilted Doughnut and The Milkman.
