End of an era: Meadowbank Fireworks tickets on sale today

With Meadowbank Stadium set to close its doors on 3 December 2017 for redevelopment, members of the public will have the chance to attend a final fireworks concert on Sunday, 5 November. Tickets for the annual fireworks display, the largest in the capital, go on sale today at 9.00 am.

The annual fireworks display at Meadowbank Stadium has been a staple of the Capital’s bonfire night offering for the last 30 years. 

Produced by award winning pyrotechnic company 21cc, the fireworks will be accompanied by a sci-fi theme.  Doors open 6pm, with entertainment from 6.30pm and the fireworks starting at 7.30pm. 

Booking is strongly recommended. Tickets are available online from Ticketsource and cost £7.00 each (a booking fee applies) or telephone the box office on 0131 661 5351.

Man in court over local Bonfire Night incidents

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of anti-social behaviour incidents, which occurred on Bonfire Night. He has also been changed with an offence under the Explosives Act 1875 and will  appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

A 15-year-old boy has also been charged in connection with antisocial behaviour and an offence under the Fireworks Act 2004 (Scotland). He will be reported to the Children’s Reporter.

Enquiries are continuing to trace other that were involved in anti-social behaviour on Bonfire Night.

Chief Inspector Jimmy Jones, Area Commander for North-west Edinburgh, said: “All incidents of anti-social behaviour are unacceptable, and we are working hard to bring those responsible for these incidents in North Edinburgh to account.

“We will not tolerate this type of criminality. If you have witnessed disorder or anti-social behaviour in your local area please contact us, either through 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“The information will be noted in confidence and used to help progress enquiries that help keep our communities safe.”

No vehicles in Holyrood Park on Bonfire Night

Holyrood Park will be closed to vehicle traffic on Bonfire Night – Saturday 5th November – from 6pm until Midnight. Throughout the evening Historic Environment Scotland, who manage the Park, will have the Park’s Ranger Team carrying out shared patrols with Police Scotland and the Fire and Rescue Service. Madness: fire crews attacked while protecting communities

People who chose to attend organized Bonfire Night events helped to protect their communities by ensuring firefighters were able to quickly get to real emergencies on Guy Fawkes Night. No major incidents were reported in Edinburgh, but sadly crews in Larbert, Govanhill and New Cumnock were threatened and attacked while trying to keep the public safe.
