Edinburgh Leisure launches fundraising challenge

Edinburgh Leisure is inviting people to sign up to their first ever public fundraising event – the ‘Jump In Swim Challenge’, which begins on 1 September. Swimmers who take up the challenge will stroke, crawl and paddle for 30 days whilst raising vital funds to give local nursery school pupils affected by poverty the chance to learn to swim, an opportunity that many of these children do not have. Save yourself a fair whack with an Edinburgh Leisure discount card

While we all know that exercise is good for us, life is hectic. For those unable to commit to a monthly or annual gym membership, Edinburgh Leisure’s Discount Card might be the solution. For a one-off annual payment of £29.90 (less than 60p a week) is all you need to pay to save all year long.

The Discount Card gives unlimited access to all Edinburgh Leisure’s venues across the city, with savings of up to 25% across a huge range of activities including gym visits, swimming, fitness classes, golf, racquet sports and much more (*exceptions apply – see below).

It also lets you book classes or courts eight days in advance, ensuring you don’t miss out on your favourite session. And for those purchasing a card before 30 April, a free swim or gym visit is given as an incentive to get you started.

With over 30+ venues offering 1 climbing centre, 15 gyms, 700+ fitness classes per week, 23 tennis courts, 6 golf courses, 10 swimming pools, Edinburgh Leisure is ‘the biggest club in town’.

The Discount Card is available to buy online at Edinburgh Leisure’s website or from any one of Edinburgh Leisure’s venues.  The discount lasts for 12 months and anyone signing up before 16 April will receive a free gym or swim.

*There is no discount on the following activities: soft play, Clip ‘n Climb, all climbing activities with the exception of casual climb and bouldering; sauna, steam room, shower and Turkish Bath; hall hire for football, basketball, volleyball etc; outdoor football; bowling and putting.

Get Fit and Fed at Free Multi-Sport Camp

With the news that exercise levels are declining ‘long before adolescence’, Edinburgh Leisure and Craigmillar Community Sports Hub is offering free sport and healthy eating sessions during the Easter holidays aimed at 6-12 year olds.

A new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine says that sitting is replacing physical activity from the time children start school. Many of the 400 children enrolled in the study did less than this as they got older.

Phil Trodden, Community Sport Hub Coordinator at Edinburgh Leisure said: “Sitting is replacing physical activity from the time children start school. Children should get at least an hour of exercise a day. Activities outside school have an important role to play too.

“So our sessions will be on encouraging the children to have fun and move more, at the same time as instilling in them the importance of a healthy diet.”

The sessions will run from Monday, 3 April to Friday, 7 April 2017 from 10.30-12.30 at Jack Kane Sport Centre. Each day will have a different one hour sport of physical activity followed by a one hour healthy eating session and meal.

On Friday 7 April, a multi-sport event will kick off at 10.00 until 12.00 noon with a range of different sports to try out.

Places are limited to 30 per session and booking is essential and needs to be made by Monday, 27 March. To book a place on the camp, contact: communitysportshubs@edinburghleisure.co.uk
