Raising a tobacco-free generation: Action Plan published

Further actions to stop young people taking up smoking and raise a tobacco-free generation have been outlined. The Scottish Government’s updated Tobacco Control Action Plan sets out 44 specific actions to address health inequalities and cut smoking rates in the communities where people find it most difficult to quit. Edinburgh pupil wins First Minister’s Reading Challenge Award

The winners of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge 2018 were announced at an event in Edinburgh’s Hub yesterday. Among the 17 winners to receive prizes from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was Liberton Primary School pupil, Ian Hammer, who received the award for the Pupil Reading the Most Books (upper primary). Baby friendly Scotland!

Scotland has achieved full UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation in all of its maternity and community health visiting services, following NHS Lothian receiving the honour. The accreditation demonstrates that health boards across the country are providing new mums and babies with the best possible support and care. First Minister “thrilled” at rise in Reading Challenge entries

More schools have submitted entries for the second year of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge Awards. A total of 729 submissions for the awards were received from primary schools compared to 540 last year – a 35% increase.
