Roald Dahl’s beloved stories return to the big screen at Vue Edinburgh

A number of iconic film adaptations based on the work of children’s author Roald Dahl are returning to the big screen at Vue Edinburgh, offering families the perfect chance to relive their favourite stories the way they were meant to be seen.  

Marking its 30th anniversary this year, James & The Giant Peach kickstarts the season from 28 February. From the director behind classics such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, this stylishly silly story follows an orphan who, tired of living with his two cruel aunts, befriends a group of anthropomorphic bugs who live inside a giant peach and embarks on a marvellous adventure to the city of New York.

Also marking 30 years since it first began entertaining families, Matilda is heading back to the big screen to cause more mischief and mayhem from 28 March. The film follows a gifted young girl forced to put up with her difficult home and school life, including crude parents and her evil principal, Mrs Trunchbull. But when Matilda discovers she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to fight back against the wicked adults around her, freeing her friends from their grown-up grievances.  

Another beloved adaptation returning to the big screen is the iconic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, featuring Gene Wilder as the titular chocolatier, who invites five children into his mysterious, mad factory of sweet delights. The classic will be returning from 7 March. 

Other firm favourites joining the Roald Dahl season at Vue include the stop motion creature crime caper Fantastic Mr Fox, Angelica Huston’s unforgettable performance in the 1990 version of The Witches, and director Steven Spielberg’s heartwarming adaptation of The BFG.

Vue marks a decade of award-winning musical Hamilton with big screen anniversary

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the beloved Broadway phenomenon, Vue is bringing the award-winning Hamilton to the big screen this September.

From 26 September, for three days only, the global stage sensation heads to the big screen at Vue venues in Edinburgh, telling the story of one of America’s foremost founding fathers Alexander Hamilton. The screening brings the show straight from the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway and features the original cast.

Created by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, the production first hit stages back in 2015 and since has toured the world, winning over worldwide audiences with iconic and award-winning songs such as Alexander Hamilton and My Shot.  

This groundbreaking musical, which packs a score of more than 40 songs in total, can be experienced on the big screen, allowing theatre fans to enjoy all of their favourite moments in this fully immersive experience, all from the comfort of their local Vue.

Beyonce’s concert film to hit Vue Edinburgh next month

Music fans will be thrilled to discover that they can enjoy the much-anticipated RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ on the big screen from 1st December.

With just weeks to go until the world premiere of the film on 30 November, tickets are now on sale at Vue Edinburgh Ocean and Vue Edinburgh Omni – with prices starting from just £14.99 when booked online. 

RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ will be arriving at Vue Edinburgh Ocean and Vue Edinburgh Omni on Friday 1 December, with multiple screenings showing throughout the month.

Having started the first leg of her tour in Europe earlier this year, Beyonce played five sold-out gigs at Tottenham Stadium, London, in May and June.

Those who missed out on tickets – which ranged from £55 to £2,400 for VIP experiences – or fans who want to relive the experience can now catch a piece of the action at Vue Edinburgh Ocean and Vue Edinburgh Omni for a fraction of the price.

A combination of documentary and live footage from the show, RENAISSANCE: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ will give members of the BeyHive a chance to live and breathe the entire journey of the Renaissance World Tour from the best seat in the house.

Tapping into the anticipated Beyonce mania, Vue Edinburgh Ocean and Vue Edinburgh Omni will be offering limited edition merchandise.

Beyonce’s Renaissance album topped the charts this summer, garnering critical acclaim and saw the mega-star break the record for the most Grammys ever won.

Streaming-induced arguments on the rise as Scots feel content fatigue

Lack-lustre lockdown entertainment is leading to arguments with friends & family, new research has found.

ODEON Cinemas found that over a quarter (26 per cent) of the nation has argued about what to watch during 2020 and on average Scots have a stream-induced argument TWICE a week.

Choosing what to watch isn’t the only screen-screamer, with 60 per cent of Scots also getting annoyed when others in the household ‘double-screen’ (watching TV and being on a mobile phone, laptop or tablet at the same time).

Elsewhere, entertainment- starved Scots also spend 102 hours – the equivalent of 4 days a year – searching for shows to watch. It’s no surprise then that 68 per cent admit to feeling content fatigue, ‘bored’ of streaming sites which have been their ‘go to’ for much of the year.

ODEON is hoping the release of Tenet (26 August) will fill the entertainment void & help the 28 per cent of the nation looking to ‘escape the everyday’ in the darkness of the cinema.
