Communities in community planning: now it’s Neighbourhood Networks

In the link below, you will find an invitation to the first gathering of the Inverleith Neighbourhood Network on Thursday 30th May. The networks are being established to support the Edinburgh Partnership’s approach to Community Planning.

Community planning drives public service reform by bringing together local public services with the communities they serve, and provides a focus for partnership working that targets specific local circumstances. Partners work together to improve local services and to ensure that they meet the needs of local people, especially those who need the services most.

The invitation provides more information and it is hoped that community based organisations and groups will get involved. The type of groups and organisations that have been invited include Community Councils, Tenants & Residents Groups, Faith groups, Voluntary Sector organisations, Carers groups, Arts and culture, sports, local health organisations, support based groups.

We would appreciate if schools could identify if there is any interest from Parent Council’s also. Similarly, if you feel you might know a group that could be interested, please do forward on this invitation.

We have made every effort to include as many groups and organisations as possible but would welcome support to hopefully ensure no one is missed. Similarly, apologies if you receive this more than once.

If you can’t get along we will be happy to keep you informed of progress and future meetings etc. If you don’t want any further emails, just reply to me and I will remove you from the list.

EDINBURGH PARTNERSHIP REVIEW OUTCOMES

‘Starting to establish neighbourhood networks’

We’re now setting up neighbourhood networks across Edinburgh. They will bring together community groups, voluntary sector organisations and local councillors to identify what matters to their neighbourhood.

These networks will be part of community planning in Edinburgh where a range of organisations work together with communities to make lives better for individuals and communities.

Over the last year, the Edinburgh Partnership has been looking at how we organise ourselves to make us more open and improve how we work across the city, and neighbourhood networks are a key part of our agreed new structure.

We want to start a conversation about how these networks should work and who should be involved. As there is variety in the groups and organisations in different areas of Edinburgh, each network will decide themselves their membership and how they work.

Please join us at the first session on 30th May 2019 – 18:30 to 20:30 in the Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre.

We’ll introduce how neighbourhood networks fit in the new community planning model in Edinburgh. We’ll:

  • have an opportunity to discuss ambitions for this area and the neighbourhood network
  • generate ideas on how the neighbourhood network might work, including next steps
  • identify who else should be involved
  • introduce the nomination process for the neighbourhood network representative on the four new locality community planning partnership which we’re setting up to deliver the locality improvement plans.

Please let us know by 27th May if you or someone else from your group or organisation will attend. If no one can attend on this date, please let me know if you would like to be added to a contact list which will be used to keep you informed of opportunities to get involved in the future.

Look forward to seeing you or your colleague at the introductory session,
