The City of Edinburgh Council will join partner organisations in four Talk Money events held across the city to share tips and advice for managing money.
Held from Monday 12 to Friday 18 November, Talk Money Week is an opportunity to reduce the stigma around money by encouraging conversations among families, friends, colleagues and children. Designed to improve people’s money management skills and financial wellbeing, Talk Money Week is also the annual opportunity to raise awareness of the work the Council and partners do to help improve people’s financial capability.
As part of this week the Council will be holding community events aiming to get more people talking about personal finance issues, saving regularly, planning for retirement, and fewer people using credit for everyday spending. They will be:
- Monday 12 November – South Leith Parish Church Halls (11am – 2pm)
- Tuesday 13 November – The White House, Craigmillar (11am – 2pm)
- Wednesday 14 November – Prentice Centre, West Granton (11am – 2pm)
- Thursday 15 November – Westside Plaza Shopping Centre. Wester Hailes (11am – 2pm)
Cllr Cammy Day, Depute Leader of City of Edinburgh Council and Vice Chair of Edinburgh Poverty Commission said: “We are committed to tackling poverty and inequality in the city. While Edinburgh is a wealthy city there is a level of deprivation and financial instability that affects too many residents.
“Not enough people have sufficient savings to see them through a significant change in circumstances; too many people struggle to afford basic goods and services; thousands are not getting the state benefits to which they are entitled; personal debt is on the increase.
“The Poverty Commission is about more than influencing the way the Council works. If we are going to make a difference, we need to have a solid understanding of what it is like to experience poverty in Edinburgh and to focus on the things that will make a difference to people’s lives. Community events such as these bring together the Council and partner organisations to assist those in need of advice and raise awareness of the issues.

The events are being held across each of the city’s four localities. The local North West Locality Event takes place at The Prentice Centre on Wednesday from 11am – 2pm.
