March and Rally to support BiFab workers

As you may be aware, workers at the engineering firm BiFab have taken control of their sites, since 1,400 jobs are at risk. In solidarity, the GMB and Unite have organised a march and rally in support of the workers tomorrow:

Thursday 16th November
MARCH: Assemble 10am Johnston Terrace
RALLY: 11am outside Scottish Parliament
Please attend the march and rally if you can. Also, please contact your CLP and your union branch to encourage them to share this event with their membership too.

ARRGmaggedon: Roller Girls bid fond farewell to Meadowbank

Edinburgh’s roller girls on the hunt for new home

Auld Reekie Roller Girls (ARRG), Edinburgh’s Roller Derby club, are to host a national tournament in the city on Saturday 25th November.  ARRGmageddon 2017, to be held at Meadowbank Sports Centre, will see ARRG’s third travel team, the All Star Rookies, battle it out with teams from Livingston, York and Durham. The public is being invited to view and comment on proposals for the future layout of Picardy Place and the surrounding area. Two events are set to take place on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 November, where people can submit opinions on designs and hear from the Council on how plans have evolved since their inception.

Gas distribution company SGN is supporting a new campaign urging people to be prepared for bad weather this winter and to know what to do if they have a power cut or gas emergency. The launch comes as it’s revealed almost one in five (17%) people in Scotland admit they aren’t prepared for winter weather as colder conditions roll in. Social Security Experience Panel survey results published

 

A survey of those with direct experience of the benefit system has shown that three out of five respondents rate the current UK welfare system as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’. The ‘About Your Benefits and You’ survey sought the views of social security experience panels members – individuals who are giving their views on the design of Scotland’s new welfare system.  Continue reading Social Security Experience Panel survey results published
