Police seek witnesses to assault and robbery in Wester Drylaw

POLIVE officers in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery incident which happened in Drylaw.

Shortly before 11am on Wednesday (21 February), a 20-year-old man was walking on the footpath between Silverknowes Neuk and Wester Drylaw Drive when he was approached from behind by three men.

They assaulted him and stole a number of personal items, including a designer jacket and mobile phone.

The victim went to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

Detective Constable William Doughty from Corstorphine CID said: “This area and footpath network is frequented by locals regularly and I’d ask anyone who saw what happened to come forward and speak with officers.

“The victim left the area following the incident towards Wester Drylaw Place and the suspects are believed to have been on foot.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 1074 of 21 February 2024. An anonymous report can be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police CCTV appeal following assault and robbery at Inchmickery Court 

POLICE have released images of two men who may be able to assist with enquiries into an assault and robbery which occurred around 9.30pm on Saturday, 20 January, at the Inchmickery Court area in Muirhouse.

Both men are thought to be Eastern European.

The first man is described as white and 20- 30 years of age. He was wearing a black and red jacket, black trousers and a white baseball cap. The second man is described as white and 30-40 years of age. He was wearing a black jacket, jeans and black shoes.

Detective Constable William Doughty said: “I urge the men or anyone who may recognise them to contact us.

“If you have any information about this incident, please contact us through 101 quoting incident number 1095 of 21 January 2024. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”

Appeal for information following assault and robbery in Seafield

Detectives in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and robbed by three youths in Seafield.

Around 5.30pm on Tuesday (24 January 2023) the man sustained minor injuries after three males struck him on the head with a weapon and stole his rucksack and laptop as he made his way along the cycle path between Seafield Street and Pirniefield.

The suspects are described as:

The first was around 14-years-old, with a Scottish accent, slim build, wearing a snood, dressed in black and riding a black scooter.

The second, with the weapon, was about 16/17-years-old, stocky build, 5ft 9, Scottish accent, wearing a dark hoodie with the hood tied tight, red snood, black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

The third was around 14/15-years-old, wearing dark clothing and silver trainers. Both were on electric bikes.

Detective Sergeant Keith Taylor, Violence Reduction Unit, said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the people responsible, and we encourage anyone with information about this attack to contact police.

“Think back, did you see these three youths in the area around this time?

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have relevant dash-cam footage from the Seafield Road area around 5.30pm on Tuesday to get in touch.

Assault and motorcle robbery: Police appeal for more information

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and robbed of his motorcycle. The incident happened around 6pm, on Saturday 28th May on Meuse Lane (between Princes Street and St Andrew Square.)

The 18-year-old man was assaulted by a group of men and had his motorcycle and mobile phone stolen. A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged – however further enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Melissa Silva said: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we would be keen to speak to anyone with information.

“We know a number of members of the public were in the area at the time and some may have filmed the incident so we would be particularly keen to speak to any of them.

New Year’s Day assault and robbery in Clermiston: Police issue CCTV appeal

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may be able to assist an ongoing investigation into an assault and robbery in Clermiston.

The incident happened around 6.40pm on Saturday, 1 January, 2022, on Essendean Place. A 43-year-old man was assaulted and robbed, sustaining facial injuries.

Officers believe the man (pictured below) may be able to help with the investigation.



He is described as white, aged in his 20s, around 5ft 10in, medium build, wearing a hooded zip up top and Adidas jogging bottoms with short, dark hair and moustache.

Detective Constable Richard Paton, of Corstorphine CID, said: “We have released a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with this incident.

“Despite extensive enquiries, we have not been successful in identifying the man in the image.

“I would urge the male or anyone who recognises him to come forward as soon as possible.

Police appeal following assault and robbery in Gilmerton

Police are appealing for information following an assault and robbery in Gilmerton.

A 42-year-old man was walking along the cycle path near to Gilmerton Station Road, around 00.30am on Friday, 25 March, when he was approached by two men, assaulted and had his personal items stolen.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and released following treatment. 

The suspects are described as being in their mid-twenties, wearing dark clothing and were on mountain bikes. 

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with any information which may assist to get in touch.

They are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anyone matching the descriptions to contact them.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0142 of 25th March, 2022. Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

82 year old woman assault and robbery in Leith: man charged

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault and robbery in Leith.

The incident happened around 4.35pm on Mon, 8 Feb, 2021, on Hamburgh Place. A report will be submitted to the PF and the man is due to appear at Edinburgh SC today (Thursday 18 February).

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in Leith. The incident happened around 4.35pm yesterday (Monday 8 February) on Hamburgh Place and involved an 82-year-old woman.

She was hit to the head from behind and her handbag was grabbed by a man, before being pushed to the ground in a struggle and her bag taken. Hear assailant then ran off on foot down Portland Street.

The woman suffered serious injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment to a broken hip, where she remains in a stable condition.The suspect is described as being a white man around 16 to 30-years-old and of a slim build. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark clothing and a dark hoodie with the hood up.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait of Edinburgh CID: “This was a terrifying attack for the woman involved who has suffered serious injury and remains in hospital for treatment.

“Officers are reviewing CCTV footage in the area to help trace the person responsible for this and I would urge anyone with private or business systems in the area to please make this available to us.

“We are also appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw anything which might be helpful to our enquiries to come forward.

“Similarly, anyone who might have been driving in the area and recording via dash-cam, please let us know if you captured anything which might be relevant to our investigation.”

Witness appeal following Roseburn assault and robbery

Police are appealing for information following an assault and robbery in Roseburn.

The incident happened at round 8pm last night (Wednesday 18 November), when a 15-year-old male youth was assaulted and robbed outside a supermarket on Roseburn Terrace.

A black Nike bag with various personal items was stolen and the boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspects are described as three white men aged between 17 and 18-years-old and were all wearing face masks.

The first suspect was wearing a light coloured tracksuit with a black fur lined jacket and all black trainers.

Suspects two and three are described as wearing black hoodies, bottoms and trainers.

It is also reported that one of the men involved may have spoken with a scouse or Liverpudlian accent.

Detective Sergeant Rory Legge, of Edinburgh CID, said: “The boy involved has thankfully only sustained minor injuries but has been left evidently shaken by what has happened.

“The incident took place near a busy supermarket and we are asking members of the public to come forward with any information they may have.

“If you were in the area at the time and have any dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist with our investigation I would urge you to contact police. I would also ask if you find a black Nike rucksack that you speak to officers.

CCTV appeal following Newhaven assault and robbery

Police have released CCTV images of two men they believe may be able to assist them with their enquiries following an assault and robbery which took place on Newhaven Place last year.

The incident happened shortly after 12am on Wednesday, 24 April 2019.

A man sustained minor facial injuries as a result of the incident, during which his Shih Tzu Westie Cross dog was stolen.

The first man is described as a white man, aged between 30 and 40, around 5ft 9ins to 6ft tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a black jacket with a white logo on the left sleeve, black trousers, black shoes and a black beanie hat. He spoke with a Glaswegian accent.

The second man is described as a white man, aged between 20 and 30, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark grey long-sleeved top with black sides, black joggers and red trainers.

Detective Constable Ryan Lee of Edinburgh’s CID said: “I would urge anyone who may recognise these men, who knows the whereabouts of the dog or who has any information which could be relevant to this enquiry to report it as soon as possible.”

Police appeal following assault and robbery of woman in Leith

Detectives have released images of a man who may have information that will assist their investigation into the assault and robbery of a woman in Leith.

The robbery took place at the junction of Henderson Street and Yardheads between 1.30am and 2am in the early hours of Sunday morning (13 September).

Police officers believe that the man in the images may be able to help with their ongoing enquiries.

He is described being slim to medium build, 30-40 years old, dark hair which is short at the back and sides and slightly longer on top. He is clean shaven and was wearing a black jacket with a different shade of black collar, white trousers and brown shoes.

Detective Constable Oliver Healy of Gayfield CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing into the assault and robbery and officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area, and checking CCTV footage to gather more information.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.
