August round of Neighbourhood Partnership meetings

Neighbourhood Partnership meetings are taking place in August

With the ongoing rollout of new Localities community planning structures across the city, the future of Neighbourhood Partnerships has been in some doubt but they are back for now – at least until a suitable replacement can be agreed.

Neighbourhood Partnership meetings are open to the public, so take the opportunity to hear discussions and decisions about Local Community Grant Fund applications, North West Locality Improvement Planning, participate in the popular ‘question time’ session and more.

There are four Neighbourhood Partnerships within the new North West Locality and each of these will meet in August. Dates are:

Forth Neighbourhood Partnership

Tuesday 15 August at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre, 6.30-8.30pm

Inverleith Neighbourhood Partnership

Monday 21 August at Stockbridge Library, 6.30-8.30pm.

Almond Neighbourhood Partnership

Wed 23 August at Rosebery Hall, South Queensferry, 6.30-8.30pm.

Western Neighbourhood Partnership

Thursday 31 August Drumbrae Hub, 6.30-8.30pm.

Stronger North: crackdown on crime in North Edinburgh

Police have been conducting Stronger North activity in the North Edinburgh area over the past week. Officers have made 42 arrests and executed seven misuse of drugs warrants since last Monday. Over the last week £9000 worth of drugs have been recovered in the area, along with seven stolen motorcycles and one stolen car. Seventeen vehicles have also been seized for having invalid insurance. Wardieburn man receives five year ban from owning or keeping animals

A local man who failed to meet the needs of the cats he was responsible for has been given a five year ban from owning or keeping animals following a Scottish SPCA investigation. Gary Wilson, 49, of Wardieburn Terrace, Edinburgh was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday (29 June). Stop the evictions!

CRISIS: campaigners demand an end to the eviction of families

Campaigners resisting the evictions of families due to the Benefits Cap are protesting at the full meeting of City of Edinburgh Council thios morning.  Deputations from North Edinburgh’s All About Me and Power to the People groups will demand the council take action on the crisis.  Last month the campaigners occupied both Council offices and Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson’s constituency office to demand housing for homeless families. Scrap the Cap, Stop the Evictions: exhibition launch at North Edinburgh Arts

Friday was a frantic afternoon for the women of the All About Me group – the women presented their new film at the Central Halls in Tollcross before getting back across town to screen the film again and launch an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia at North Edinburgh Arts. The events were the latest efforts to publicise the dreadful impact changes to the benefits system are having on families.

The exhibition highlights the actions taken by the group to support friends faced with losing their homes

None of the young women had any experience of political campaigning but over the last six months the women have:

  • Met with politicians and community activists to highlight their plight
  • Protested at council meetings
  • Staged peaceful protests at the North Local Office
  • ‘Occupied’ Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson MSP’s constituency office
  • Made a film with filmmaker George Williamson which eloquenty tells their story and the journey so far.

While the group has won some small victories, another local family lost their home last week. The women are determined: the fight goes on.
