Two men arrested following £98,000 drug recovery in Edinburgh

More than £98,000 worth of illegal drugs have been recovered in Edinburgh.

On Thursday, 16 April, 2026, officers acting on intelligence attempted to stop a vehicle in Murrayburn Drive. The car was found crashed in the Calder Gardens area a short time later and two men were arrested. No serious injuries were reported.

Drugs including cocaine, pink cocaine and heroin worth £98,180 were recovered, as well as a bladed weapon and a four-figure sum of cash. The vehicle was also found to be stolen.

The men, both aged 23, were charged in connection and were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday – Friday, 17 April, 2026.

Sergeant Will Dickson, from Edinburgh West Local Initiative Team, said: “This is a significant recovery which means a large quantity of drugs will remain off our streets.

“Information from the community is absolutely vital and I’d like to thank them for their cooperation and the information they’ve provided.

“This result shows we will use every tool and tactic at our disposal to trace those committing crimes in our communities and make our community a safer place for all.”

Two arrested and charged following £1 million drugs recovery

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a drugs recovery worth over £1 million in West Lothian.

Around 7.15am on Thursday, 27 November, 2025, officers attended a premises in the Redmill area of East Whitburn.

A cannabis cultivation was discovered within containing between 1000 and 1200 plants with an estimated street value of over £1 million.

A 47-year-old man and a 44-year-old man have been arrested and charged in connection. They were due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday – Friday, 28 November.

Enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant John Irvine said: “This significant recovery underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy. Taking drugs off the street is a priority for Police Scotland.

“Drugs cause misery in our communities, and the public has a vital role in helping us to trace those involved in the supply of illegal substances.

Attempted murder in Pennywell Gardens: Two men charged

Two men aged 35 and 41 years have been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder which took place in Pennywell Gardens at around 9.15pm on Monday (20 May, 2024).

They are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today – Thursday, 23 May, 2024, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Charlotte Square assault: two men to appear in court

TWO men have been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault on a 49-year-old man on Charlotte Square on Sunday, 7 April.

The two men, aged 26 and 32 years. are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

Greendykes Road incident: victims named

Two men who died at Greendykes Road in Edinburgh have now been named by police. They were Desmond Rowlings, 66, and Derek Johnston, 37, both from Edinburgh.

The daughters of Desmond Rowlings have issued a picture of their father and described him as: “A loving, happy go lucky man who kept himself to himself.

“He will be forever missed and remembered with love. As a family we ask for respect and privacy whilst we come to terms during this extremely difficult time”

Derek Johnston’s mum and sister have also issued a photograph of Derek and have described him as: “A deeply loved son and brother, my handsome boy who had such a beautiful soul, our hearts will never mend, he will be forever missed and remembered with much love and affection. As a family we ask for respect and privacy during this extremely difficult time”

Detective Chief Inspector Susan Balfour of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team added: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both Desmond and Derek at this incredibly difficult time.

“Specialist officers are continuing to provide both families with support.”

Officers were called to a flat on Greendykes Road around 8.25pm on Tuesday, 1 November.

Both Desmond Rowlings and Derek Johnston were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men, aged 65 and 40, have been arrested and charged in connection with their deaths.

The 65-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, 4 November while the 40-year-old is due to appear at the same court today (Monday, 7 November).
