Most popular workout tracks for January gym return revealed

  • A new analysis of monthly Spotify playlists reveals the most popular songs for a January workout, as Brits head back to the gym
  • ACRAZE’s Do It To It proved best for getting hyped back up after Christmas, as well as Eminem’s Till I Collapse and The Chainsmokers’ Closer
  • Google searches for new gym memberships have increased by 111% since the end of December – perhaps due to New Year’s resolutions

A new analysis of user’s monthly Spotify playlists has revealed which tracks are best for getting hyped for the gym again in January – with ACRAZE’S Do It To It on top.

The research, conducted by fitness experts Fitness Volt, analysed over 9,353 tracks from Spotify’s most popular January gym and January workout playlists to determine which songs feature most – creating the ultimate back-to-gym playlist for the new year.

ACRAZE’s Do It To It – featuring girl group Cherish – is the best-suited track, appearing in seven of the playlists analysed. With a tempo of 125 BPM, the song is ideal for cardio.

Next up was Eminem’s Till I Collapse, also appearing on seven playlists, which would work well for a high-intensity workout thanks to its higher BPM of 171. The third-most popular track was The Chainsmoker’s Closer, which appeared in six workout playlists.

It makes sense that high-tempo songs appear frequently in January playlists, given many people are now getting back to their usual workout routines and will be trying to hype themselves up again after the festive break.

Some artists also appear more frequently in gym playlists than others; Lizzo is amongst the most popular, with featured tracks including Fitness, Water Me, Grrls and Truth Hurts.

Other artists that appear numerous times across the analysed playlists were Kanye West, Big Sean, Flo Rida, Rihanna and Tiesto.

There’ll also be an influx of new gym-goers who have dedicated themselves to pursue working out as their New Year’s resolution, and who’ll be listening to more motivating music.

It seems that Brits are already keen to get themselves back to working out, with Google Trends data showing that searches for ‘gym memberships’ are 111% higher now than they were at the end of December.

A spokesperson at Fitness Volt commented on the findings, saying: “Many gym-goers will find it hard to motivate themselves to get back to working out after some time away from the gym – and one of the best ways to amp ourselves up is to listen to high-tempo music.

“For those who are looking to create dedicated gym playlists, it’s recommended to include some slower tracks that will work for warming up and cooling down after your workout. You may also want to consider noise-cancelling headphones to enhance the experience.”

Study reveals the songs that have been in the Spotify top 200 chart the longest

  • Blinding Lights by The Weeknd has not left the chart since its release, 144 weeks ago
  • Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood is second, while Levitating by Dua Lipa is third
  • Three songs by Olivia Rodrigo are in the list, all from her first album ‘Sour’

“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd is the song that has spent the most consecutive days in Spotify’s chart of the top 200 most popular songs, a new study reveals.

The study, conducted by online expert VPN Overview, analysed the most recent Spotify Chart of the 200 songs most played on the platform and ranked the titles by ‘Streak’, to see how many days in a row each song has been in the list.

“Blinding Lights”, the 2019 hit by The Weeknd, the first single of his album of the same name, has been in the chart for 1,008 days, or 144 weeks, the longest uninterrupted time on the list. This adds up to two years and nine months, meaning that the song has roughly been in the chart since it came out on November 29, 2019.

Second is “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood, in the chart for 719 consecutive days. The song was originally released on March 28, 2012, as part of the band’s debut studio album “I Love You” (2013), meaning it began its current streak in the top 200 in the middle of September 2020 – more than eight years after first being released. This remains nine years later their most popular song, and one of the most loved songs of the genre.

“Levitating” by Dua Lipa featuring DaBaby is third, with 700 days in a row in the chart. The British singer not only has the third longest streak on the chart, but also seems to be on an ever-growing popularity streak, becoming in just a few years one of the most popular and loved artists of her generation.

Further down, Bad Bunny makes his first appearance in the list – as the top 15 features two songs by the Puerto Rican artist – with “DÁKITI”, featuring Jhay Cortez, on a streak of 672 days. Bad Bunny has recently dropped a new album, ‘Un verano sin ti’, whose songs are already trending in the higher positions of the chart.

The top five closes with “Heat Wave” by Glass Animals, as the song has been in the chart for 615 days in a row. Part of their third studio album “Dreamland”, “Heat Wave” was released in June 2020, and it quickly became a TikTok sensation.

Olivia Rodrigo features three times in the list, in seventh place with “drivers licence”, 10th place with “good 4 u”, and 11th place with “traitor”. All songs are from her first album ‘Sour’ and have been in the list respectively for 602, 475 and 469 days in a row.

A spokesperson for VPN Overview commented on the findings: “It is really interesting to see the variety of genres songs’ release dates on the list.

“For songs that have been out for the longest it is obviously easier to have a longer streak, however Blinding Lights’ performance is particularly impressive. It became one of the most popular songs in the world as soon as it was released, and has remarkably stayed that way for nearly three years

“At the same time, this is a testament of how much people love certain songs and artists and keep listening to them regardless of time and temporary popularity.”

Dua Lipa is the most popular female artist on Spotify

Dua Lipa has more than double the monthly listeners of Beyoncé

New research has revealed that Dua Lipa is currently the most popular female artist on Spotify.

The study, commissioned by shopping experts Coupon Ninja, compared Spotify data for 70 of the world’s biggest female music artists, using the number of monthly listeners to reveal the most popular artists.

Dua Lipa is the most popular female artist on Spotify. The London-born pop singer has 67.9 million monthly listeners – more than twice that of the Queen Bee, Beyoncé herself. Dua Lipa is also the fourth most popular artist in the world on Spotify, surpassed only by Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, and The Weekend.

With more than 56 million monthly listeners, Doja Cat comes in second place, making her the most popular female rapper on Spotify. The Californian ‘Say So’ singer also sits in the seventh position worldwide.

In third place is Taylor Swift, America’s pop and country music star. Swift has more than 55.4 million listeners every month, which also puts her in the eighth worldwide position on Spotify.

Although she started her career on screen as a teen actor, Ariana Grande is now the fourth most popular female artist on Spotify, with more than 54 million fans listening to her music every month, and currently sitting in the tenth worldwide position.

Adele has 53.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, making her the fifth most popular female artist on Spotify. The British Soul artist’s most recent album ‘30’ was the best-selling album of 2021 despite only being released in November.

As well as playing a huge part in the beauty and fashion industries, Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna is also included in the top 10 most popular female music artists on Spotify. RiRi currently sits in the sixth position with more than 48.6 million monthly listeners.

A spokesperson for Coupon Ninja commented on the study: “The music industry is known to be heavily male-dominated, with women making up just 21.6% of music artists and only 12.6% of songwriters*, making the achievements of these artists even more incredible.

“It is great to celebrate their popularity on a streaming service like Spotify, which reflects the taste of more than 365 million users.

“It is fascinating to see the wide variety of artists who make up the top ten most popular on Spotify, with varying ages, genres, and nationalities. Some of the artists are not surprising to see, but the results also gave some unexpected results, with artists such as Beyoncé, Mariah Carey and Cardi B sitting much lower in the list than some might have thought.”

  • Bach is the world’s favourite composer with 5,447,956 monthly listeners on Spotify and 86,400 YouTube subscribers.
  • Beethoven is the second most popular composer, while Mozart comes in third.
  • The most streamed song by any of the top ten is Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, with 233 million views on YouTube

Johann Sebastian Bach has beaten Mozart and Beethoven to claim his position as the world’s most popular classical composer.

He has 5,447,956 monthly listeners on Spotify and 86,400 YouTube subscribers, according to a new study by gambling community hub Casino Grounds

Beethoven follows just behind as the second most popular composer with 5,085,293 listeners on Spotify each month, and 125,000 YouTube subscribers.

Beethoven has the second most streamed song by any classical composer, earning 173 million views on YouTube for his iconic Moonlight Sonata.

Though Mozart comes in third with 5,007,303 monthly Spotify listeners, he has the most YouTube subscribers with 135,000 to his name, providing strong representation for Austria.

Germany may dominate the top spots, but Polish composer Chopin is next in fourth place. With 4,771,732 Spotify listeners each month and 68,400 subscribers on YouTube, he also has the third most streamed song in the top ten across all platforms for Spring Waltz, which has 131 million views on YouTube.

In position five is French maestro Debussy with 3,722,304 monthly Spotify listeners and 29,100 YouTube subscribers. Russian composer Tchaikovsky is next with 2,164 260 listeners on Spotify each month and 34,600 YouTube subscribers.

Vivaldi is also the “oldest” composer out of the top ten, born in 1678, a little ahead of Bach in 1685. The two are the only composers on the list from as far back as the 17th Century or Baroque historical period.

Frenchman Saint-Saens is in position eight with 2,689,709 listeners on Spotify each month and 4,280 YouTube subscribers, followed by Schubert – the second Austrian on the list. Schubert has 2,334,386 monthly Spotify listeners and 22,900 YouTube subscribers. He also had the shortest lifespan, passing away at just 31 years old in 1897.

The final spot in the top ten list of most popular classical musicians belongs to Brahms, solidifying Germany as the country that produced the most composers who have remained popular over the centuries. Brahms has 2,153,966 monthly Spotify listeners and 23,100 YouTube subscribers.

A spokesperson for Casino Grounds said, “Most people would expect Mozart and Beethoven to top any list of the most popular classical composers, so it’s fascinating to see Bach in number one here. This could be a result of soundtracks from popular films and TV shows such as The Godfather and The Simpsons favouring Bach’s music for its dramatic impact.”

The research was conducted by Casinogrounds.com, which is the leading online gambling community, which promotes safe and responsible practise and discussions around gambling.
