Rathbones supports Scottish Ballet by becoming their Corporate Dance Partners

Sponsorship en Pointe!

  • Rathbones commits to a 12-month corporate sponsorship
  • Sponsorship is welcomed following a challenging year for the arts industry as venues across the country remain closed

Rathbones has committed to a 12-month corporate sponsorship with Scottish Ballet, supporting their return to the stage in the coming year.

Scottish Ballet strives for excellence across everything that it does, placing particular importance on being inclusive and sharing the joy and benefits of dance with everyone, regardless of age, ability and background.

Rathbones wants to support Scottish Ballet in this and is delighted to become a Corporate Dance Partner and support their transition back to live events.

Founded in 1969, Scottish Ballet is based in Glasgow and funded by the Scottish Government. The company performs regularly across Scotland, throughout the UK and internationally, inspiring on stage and beyond.

The past year has been a challenge for everyone in the arts industry with venues closed, loss of income and uncertainty on dates for a return to live performances. Rathbones’ sponsorship aims to support Scottish Ballet during this period of transition as restrictions ease and life returns to normal.

Throughout the last year Scottish Ballet has been delivering everything that it can online. From ballet classes for absolute beginners to advanced dancers, alongside a weekly programme of dance health classes for those living with neurological conditions.

As well as creating and sharing new dance films to presenting dancer and creative team talks to its membership, Scottish Ballet also produced a critically acclaimed full-length feature film The Secret Theatre for audiences last Christmas. All of which have kept audiences at home and abroad entertained.

Scottish Ballet’s ambitions to promote Scotland’s pioneering spirit far and wide and explore new styles and push creativity chimes well with Rathbones’ own aim to Look Forward.

As part of the sponsorship Rathbones will be able to offer exclusive access to upcoming virtual events to clients, as well as the opportunity to attend live events when possible.

Adam Drummond, Regional Director at Rathbone Investment Management comments: “Scottish Ballet celebrates Scotland, showcasing our collective drive, passion and creativity across the world. We are proud to be able to sponsor such a vibrant and talented organisation, particularly at this challenging time for the arts industry.

“While theatres and other performance venues went dark last March, Scottish Ballet has continued to delight, support and interact with its members online. We are looking forward to making the most of these virtual events while we can, and to returning as audience members to enjoy the company’s live performances.”

Christopher Hampson, CEO/Artistic Director at Scottish Ballet: “We are delighted that Rathbones Investment Management is supporting the arts of Scotland through joining the Scottish Ballet family as Corporate Dance Partners.

“We look forward to welcoming their guests and clients to our events, online and in person as we work towards our return to the stage.”

Local recruitment company supports community initiative

Peace Recruitment is delighted to announce it has teamed up with The Spartans Community Football Academy to help give more young people in Edinburgh an opportunity to learn through the power of sport.

The Spartans Community Football Academy, based at Ainslie Park in Pilton, is literally a stones-throw away from Peace Recruitment’s head offices in Ferry Road the charity which uses sport to provide young people with learning and development opportunities.

Spartans’ vision is to redefine what’s possible for a football club in terms of community engagement and participation, by delivering a positive social impact through the power of people and sport. It also aims to improve health, increase employment opportunities and reduce crime in the area.

Peace, which has agreed to become a sponsor, aims to work alongside the charity assisting the youngsters it helps with career decisions, work experience and ultimately finding jobs.

“We were really keen to put something back into our local community, and were looking for an opportunity that really makes a difference to people’s lives in the area – and Spartans really stood out to us,” explained Chris Peace, Managing Director of Peace Recruitment.

“I am a local boy who grew up in this part of Edinburgh, so have witnessed first-hand the Spartans evolution. Spartans is unique and is so much more than a football club, it plays a huge part in the local community working alongside schools and different organisations encouraging more people to not only take part in sport but to learn, make better decisions and in many cases turn their lives around. It invests in their physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as helping out with their home life, giving youngsters a chance they may not otherwise have had.

“I could not be prouder to sponsor them and will hopefully become more involved in the years to come. I would like to use Peace Recruitment’s expertise to help teach the youngsters at Spartans about careers and what options they have available to them, and then through this hopefully place them in jobs where they can flourish.”

Spartans’ Craig Graham said: “Everyone at Spartans is delighted to have Peace Recruitment on board.  They are a great example of a flourishing local business and we’re delighted Chris is so passionate about helping us at Spartans.  We are about to open our brand new dedicated Youth Work Centre with some exciting, fresh programmes and we’ll use the investment from Peace to support these.  We are very grateful for their support and look forward to a long lasting relationship”.

Spartans has senior teams competing in both the Lowland Football League and the East of Scotland League. Spartans also has a Saturday amateur side, several women’s teams, including Spartans W.F.C., who play in the Scottish Women’s Premier League and a thriving youth section with 600 youngsters attending regularly.

Peace Recruitment has transformed itself from a ‘one-man-band’ into a multi-million pound company in just over six years. It now aims to be the company of choice in Scotland for the construction, property and engineering sectors within the next five years.

Peace recently became the first recruitment company in the UK to join the Institute of Customer Service. It has also just announced that it will be taking part in the Building My Skills programme which has just been newly launched in Scotland.

Charity fundraising? It’s a snip!

Little Princess Chrissie raises £1000 for children’s charity

2

Little Christina Downie heard her mum talking about a small charity and took it upon herself to do something to support other children. The six year old Forthview pupil decided to get her hair cut for charity – and she’s raised over £1000!

Proud mum Dawn explained: “Back in February Chrissie heard me talking about Little Princess Trust, a charity provides real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. She told us that she wanted to help the charity and she came up with the haircut idea herself.

“She is a very kind wee girl who always thinks and cares about other people so when we saw how determined she was we knew she would see it through.

“We thought at first we might raise a hundred pounds or so, but people have been so generous. The school, neighbours, my mother’s workmates have all supported Chrissie and she’s raised over £1000, with still more to come!”

Christina’s Aunt Ashley, who’s a hairdresser, popped in to family’s West Pilton home on Friday to cut Chrissie’s hair. She took around eleven inches off the length – and that hair will soon be turned into gold for the Little Princess Trust!

When the snipping was over Dawn said: “It’s really nice but I feel a bit weird – Chrissie’s hair hasn’t been that short since she was about a year old!”

Fortunately wee Christina likes her new look. She said: “I look different and it feels funny at first but I’m glad I’ve had it done.”

Ah, well. Hair today, gone tomorrow! Fundraising? It’s kid’s stuff!

Hearts and Save the Children partnership is ‘the perfect match’

‘I’ve been involved in some important signings in my time at Hearts, but this is perhaps the most significant’ – Hearts Director of Football Craig Levein.

perfect match

Hearts will wear the Save the Children name on their kit for the next three years after agreeing a partnership with the international charity.  Announcing the agreement – the first of it’s kind in British football – club owner Ann Budge said  the new partnership is a ‘win-win-win’ for everyone involved.

The deal, which was made possible by an anonymous group of ‘big-hearted’ philanthropists, will see a seven-figure sum shared between Hearts and Save the Children. The Gorgie club’s own charity Big Hearts will also receive a donation to support their work in the local community.

Thanking those mystery supporters, Ann Budge said: “Through their enormous generosity they have agreed to provide funds at a level which more than removes the need for a commercial shirt sponsor.”

The Hearts owner told HeartsTV:  “It’s been an amazing few weeks. A few days ago we were celebrating what we had achieved on the field, and now we’re celebrating what we’ve achieved – or at least one of the achievements -, off the field.

“It’s not a commercial sponsor that we have on our shirts, but we’ve achieved terms through this agreement that more than equate to that. So we have lost nothing by having no commercial sponsor and gained everything, in my view.

“Its very pleasing to hear that reaction to the partnership has been overwhelmingly positive. I personally can’t see any downside to this; I think it’s a win-win-win for everybody. I’m delighted that the fans are happy.”

Director of Football Craig Levein added: “It’s amazing, isn’t it? I’ve been involved in some important signings in my time at Hearts, but this is perhaps the most significant.

“It’s such a great match, a perfect match as they’re saying. It’s such a good story and pretty much in line with things that are coming out of the club just now, since Ann’s taken over. I’m really proud to be part of it.”

Spanish giants Barcelona have a sponsorship deal with Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund) (Unicef) until 2016 but Hearts’ shirt deal with a charity partner is the first of it’s kind in British football.  News of the agreement has been warmly welcomed across Scottish football and it’s now likely that, like Hearts adoption of the Living Wage, other clubs will try to follow Hearts lead.

SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: “Heart of Midlothian is to be congratulated on their sporting success this season; and also on this exciting new partnership, which will bring welcome additional funds into the Scottish game‎ as well as to the most worthy of causes.”

A Scottish FA spokesperson added: “We commend Heart of Midlothian for today’s announcement, which demonstrates the strength and value of Scottish football in helping to tackle society’s inequalities, especially among vulnerable groups. Such innovative thinking and partnership also plays a significant part in reinforcing the reputation of the national sport in Scotland.”
