Colleagues from Sainsburys Blackhall store recently took part in the BIG BIKE RIDE Challenge, cycling from Nairn to Blackhall and visiting Sainsburys stores on the way. Colleagues from Blackhall were taking part to raise money for our Local Charity of the Year – Health in Mind.
Three local boys from the Davidsons Mains Pipe Band gave their time to pipe the cyclists into store and the 170th Girl Guide company also gave their time to Bag pack for the charity.
Colleagues from Blackhall would like to thank everyone for their support and also the customers who donated.
We have raised a total of £1,700 for our charity, Health in Mind, so far.

Time to say goodbye to Charity of the Year 2015/16
Sainsburys Blackhall have been supporting Meningitis Research Foundation for the last year as our store’s Local Charity of the Year (writes Gail Wilson).
It is now time to say goodbye, and colleagues from Blackhall presented a cheque for £12,605.13 to Alison Baker from Meningitis Research Foundation.
We have had a great time supporting and raising funds for MRF and would like to thank all colleagues and customers for their help in reaching our final total. We would also like to wish all at MRF good luck in the future.

Guide dog Jasper returns to his roots!
Sainsburys Blackhall have been sponsoring Guide dogs for the blind for four years now (writes Gail ). One of the first puppies we sponsored was Jasper.
After fulfilling his year in Edinburgh with Diane Hare, his puppy walker, Jasper then went to Forfar to do his formal training. Of course he passed with flying colours and is now the official Guide dog for Robert Blackwood, who lives in Irving.
Robert found out that Sainsburys Blackhall had sponsored Jasper from birth and wanted to come along to our store and meet the colleagues who had helped him get his guide dog. The colleagues were thrilled to see Jasper back!
Forth Bridge abseil raises over £1300
On Sunday 18 October, six colleagues from Sainsburys Blackhall took part in the Forth Rail Bridge abseil to raise funds for Meningitis Research Foundation (writes Gail Wilson).
We were the second group of the day to abseil and the weather was dry, calm and sunny. The view from the top of the Bridge was amazing and we all had a fantastic experience!
So far we have raised over £1,300 for Meningitis by doing our abseil and hope more funds will come in!
The intrepid abseilers were Chris Letham, Christy Dickson, Fiona Forrest, Gail Wilson, George Paton and Katie White
This year Sainsbury’s Blackhall have chosen Meningitis Research foundation as their charity of the year. Colleagues and customers have been really getting behind this charity and have raised £2,000 in the first 2 months!
On 18 October six colleagues are taking part in an abseil from the Forth Railway bridge to raise further funds for Meningitis Research Foundation and would love colleagues and customers to come along and support us.

Gail, Sainsburys Blackhall
Friday 25 September was the MacMillan coffee morning and Sainsburys Blackhall went along to Davidsons Mains Primary school to support the P7 children with their coffee morning.
The P7 children did all the home baking and Sainsburys colleagues Leaanne Cairns and Gail Wilson provided the teas and coffee. Left over cakes were then sold to colleagues at Blackhall store. Over £930 has been raised so far from the coffee morning. Well done, Davidsons Mains!
Deirdie Brock MP visits Sainsbury’s Blackhall
Deidre Brock, local MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, visited Sainsbury’s Blackhall on Monday where she met staff and local customers (writes GAIL WILSON).
The MP was welcomed by store manager, George Paton and taken on a tour of the 71,000 sq ft store on Craigleith Road.
Ms Brock learned about the store’s new Local Charity Partner, Meningitis Research Foundation. The charity has a vision of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia and was chosen by customers in July.
She also had a chance to hear about the store’s Food Donation Partner, Fareshare, who Sainsbury’s are teamed up with to make use of surplus food and Granton Baptist Church food bank, who they support with in-store collections.
Ms Brock, who was elected to represent Edinburgh North and Leith May’s general election, said: “I was delighted to hear about the work that Sainsbury’s staff do to reach out into the community, the support they and the store’s customers give to a local foodbank and to Crisis Fareshare. That’s a business trying to be a good citizen.
“The store is also a zero waste store recycling all of its packaging as well as providing recycling facilities for customers in the car park. It’s the first time I’ve seen an oil recycling bank in a supermarket car park and I’m looking forward to coming back soon to see how it works out.”
Store Manager George Paton said: “It has been great having Ms Brock in to our store, and introduce her to our customers and colleagues. I’m incredibly proud of our team, our store and the impact we have on the community. ”
