Government is failing children with mental health issues, says Greens

Children with mental health issues are being let down says a Green MSP in response to figures showing three out of ten children are waiting more than 18-weeks for treatment. Alison Johnstone MSP, the Scottish Greens’ health spokesperson, says the figures should convince government ministers to “look beyond” the NHS and include mental health awareness in the school curriculum. A team of young people are aiming to improve mental health services by leading a study, commissioned by the Scottish Government, drawing on their own experiences. The 22 members of the Youth Commission on Mental Health Services begin work this week to reshape the support available, in a partnership between the Scottish Government, Young Scot and the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).
