Edinburgh Multicultural Festival, funded by the City of Edinburgh Council, promotes local and international multicultural artists.
It engages local audiences through music, dance, poetry, storytelling and visual arts that represent Edinburgh’s diverse cultures, including African, Asian and Eastern European.
The aim of the festival is to better engage local, both BAME and indigenous, residents with local multicultural arts provision as well as promote diversity through shared experiences.
It is also to create a platform for BAME artists to share their talent, culture and artistic endeavours with other local artists and local audiences. It is seen as a unique opportunity for multicultural artists based in Edinburgh to share stages and experiences as well as encourage greater collaboration across arts disciplines.
The festival takes place across different venues in the North of Edinburgh, which is recognised as one of the most diverse areas in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Multicultural Festival is produced by African Connections CIC is a community interest company based in Scotland. It provides benefit to African and UK-based artists and communities as well as African and UK-based arts and culture groups and organisations.
African Connections CIC celebrates diversity and creates connections between African and other communities by means of sharing cultures, creative ideas, skills and experiences.
The company plans to establish information, guidance, events and trading centres showcasing quality African products and creatives productions with the aim of creating opportunities for all communities in Scotland and beyond to share and engage in cultural experiences.

Acting, Musical Theatre, Technical Theatre & Costume for Stage (PASS) Theatre at Edinburgh College (Granton Campus) will be home to exciting dance, theatre, poetry and stand-up comedy work presented by Scotland-based diverse artists on 2 October 2021.
With this programme we would like to present the work of artists at different stages of their creative careers and promote collaboration and exchange of skills and practice. Let’s celebrate the festival finale day with intimate instrumental music experiences and big band and sound performances on the main stage.
The Edinburgh Multicultural Festival is delighted to present Mio Shudo, Alec Cooper and Roo Geddes followed by The Spinning Blowfish, Mother All Mighty, Los Chichanos and Shona the Musical Choir.
12:00 – 13:30 Musical Musings feat. instrumental music performed by harpist Mio Shudo, sitarist Alec Cooper and fiddler Roo Geddes will soothe your soul and take you on a journey into the sounds and stories of sea-bound people of Japan, South Asia and Ireland. The history group at granton:hub is organising a large heritage exhibition, to be held on the weekend of 11-12 September and 25-26 September 2021, between 11-4pm. The exhibition will include displays on industries, the Madelvic Car Factory, Granton harbour, trains and trams as well as agriculture.
In addition, members of the public will be invited to come along to our ‘Share your memories’ booth to tell their stories.
We are also delighted that Edinburgh City Council will have their Waterfront Development Information Displays available, outlining the detailed plans for the local area. This will truly be a unique community event showing how Granton has developed over the years, with visions about its future.
Throughout the weekend, around a dozen artists will have a sale of original artworks celebrating local scenery and heritage, complementing the displays.
The event will feature two separate talks, each accompanied by photographs. Both talks are scheduled for the afternoon and will be seated events, with registration required. 30 tickets for each talk will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
Sunday 2 September at 2pm: Kenneth Williamson’s Brief History of Granton’s Industrial Past
Sunday 26 September, 2pm: Talk by John Dickson “The Sirius and Tall Ships at Leith”

granton:hub are having a Plant Sale and the Edinburgh Scrapstore Open Day today (Sunday 11th July) from 2.00 – 4.30pm.
Not heard of The Edinburgh Scrapstore? This is the repurposed blue shipping container in our community garden which is a unique resource where scrap materials can be donated, stored and collected by members to be re-used. Some of the materials include textiles, paper, paint and tiles. Come along and see what resources and gems you can find for your next project.
We will be running a plant sale which will feature young plants grown organically in our community garden by our volunteer garden group. We want our plants to be affordable for all, with most plants costing £2 from our nursery. Come see the selection of Scottish plants we have grown and ask our garden team advice for your gardening needs.
granton:hub’s Recycl-age Art Exhibition takes place this weekend (Friday 9th to Sunday 11th July) at Madelvic House from 11am to 6pm each day.

granton:hub is pleased to announce that our community is now included in the ‘Coastal Knowledge’ project funded by the RSE Young Academy Scotland and led by Dr Niki Vermeulen (University of Edinburgh) celebrating Scotland’s (prolonged) year of coast and waters.
As a coastal community, Granton plays a part in developing diverse forms of knowledge about the coast and experiences that people have living and working on the coast.
The Recycl-Age Art exhibition was selected as part of this Coastal Knowledge project and is included in the 2021 Edinburgh Science festival, offering artists a unique opportunity to showcase their work.
Recycl-Age Art 2021 includes painters, printmakers, collage artists, ceramicists, illustrators, photographers, textile artists, jewellers, composers, poets and makers. Many artworks incorporate recycled elements, indeed several are made of 100% recycled and repurposed materials. Some artists reflect on what recycling means to them, figuratively or conceptually.

Our Recycl-Age Art Exhibition has been included in the Edinburgh Science Festival. The exhibition has also been selected to be part of the Coastal Knowledge and RSE Young Academy of Scotland project, as the satellite arts venue for a 3-day show and artist-run workshop, funded by Edinburgh Local.
The exhibition is featured in the Edinburgh Science Festival Programme under Coastal Knowledge.
The Recycl-age Art Exhibition will be held at granton:hub, Madelvic House, EH5 1HS, on 9th -11th July 2021 from 11am to 6pm each day.
There are 20+ artists exhibiting from painters, printmakers, collage artists, ceramicists, photographers, textile artists, jewellers, composers, poets and makers.
All the artworks that will be exhibited will either incorporate or be entirely made from recycled elements, or reflect on what recycling means, either figuratively or conceptually.

The School of Ancient Crafts have been working alongside Granton:Hub volunteers in an experimental archaeology project to re-create a Scottish Iron Age log boat.
After many months of construction and delays due to the pandemic, the log boat is ready to be launched and have a new life on the sea.
The launch will take place on Sunday (20th June) and will begin at the log boat’s current location in granton:hub’s community garden at Madelvic House. The log boat will be transported by a group of volunteers using traditional means – log-rolling – down to Granton Harbour.
You are welcome to join this journey as it takes place from 9.30am.

The Edinburgh Scrapstore is having a Winter Open Day this Sunday 29th November between 11-2pm. Come along to stock up on your crafty bits and pieces for the winter. Why not try some of the lovely scrap fabrics available to wrap presents this holiday season?
As the weather is getting colder the open day will happen inside the hub. Therefore, to maintain physical distancing we will have 30 minute time slots available to book for free. Each time slot will be limited to a certain number of people.

This Saturday 10th Oct between 11.00-13.00 our wildflower nursery in partnership with Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh will be selling some wildflowers in the granton:hub community garden.
Plants on offer include Red and White Campion, Tansy, Wild Carrot, Comfrey and Meadowsweet and more!
@edinburghscrapstore will also be open this Saturday. This unique resource has scrap materials which have been donated, like textiles, paint and tiles and can be purchased for reuse.
