Gas network upgrades in the pipeline for Telford Road

LOCAL TRAFFIC DISRUPTION LIKELY FOR SIX WEEKS

Gas network company SGN is upgrading the gas network in Telford Road to ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

The project involves replacing old metal mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new plastic pipe. This will help ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply long into the future.

Following close consultation with the City of Edinburgh Council, works will start on Monday 26 January and last for approximately six weeks. The project will begin in Telford Road at its junction with Groathill Road North, operating under temporary traffic lights for approximately two weeks.

The work will then progress eastbound along Telford Road under a lane closure. before progressing east under a lane closure. Please note that delays are expected during peak travel periods.

Localised road closures in Groathill Road South and Telford Drive will be required at various stages to allow traffic to flow on Telford Road. Clearly signed diversions will be in place to assist road users.

SGN spokesperson Katie Lobban said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.

“This section of our gas main has required a number of emergency repairs in recent years, so we’ve made the decision to fully replace the pipe to reduce any further disruption to the local community and commuters.

“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thank everyone affected for your patience, understanding and support as we work to improve the energy infrastructure in Edinburgh.”

£120,000 investment for Gorgie Road gas network upgrade

Gas network company SGN is investing £120,000 to upgrade the gas network in the Gorgie Road area of Edinburgh. The critical work will begin on Monday 2 June and last for approximately 10 weeks.

The project involves upgrading the old, metal gas pipes in the area to new, plastic pipes which will ensure safe and reliable gas supplies to homes and businesses for many years to come.

SGN Project Manager Matt Ferguson said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authorities in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project.

“We know this is a very busy route and would advise motorists to allow more time for their journeys, and plan ahead particularly during peak travel times.

“This particular location has experienced multiple gas leaks in recent years and by upgrading our pipes now, we can prevent future emergency work and disruption.

“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thank everyone affected for your patience, understanding and support as we work to improve Edinburgh’s energy infrastructure.”

Due to the location of the gas pipe in the middle of the road, three-way temporary traffic lights are required to ensure everyone’s safety whilst the work is carried out. The temporary lights will be in place in Gorgie Road near to its junction with Stenhouse Drive from Monday 9 June for approximately eight weeks.

For the duration of the project, Stenhouse Drive will be closed at its junction with Gorgie Road, and local diversion routes will be in place for motorists.

There will also be no left-hand turn onto Gorgie Road from Els House.

More roadworks misery as SGN to work on Crewe Road South for THREE MONTHS

Temporary traffic lights on Crewe Road South for thirteen weeks

Just when you thought local traffic disruption couldn’t get any worse … here’s a message from SGN:

SGN Alert – Crewe Road South

We’re investing £75,000 to upgrade our gas network in Crewe Road South, Edinburgh.

This essential work involves replacing old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe, which has a minimum lifespan of 80 years, to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for the local area.

Following discussions with Edinburgh City Council, the work will begin on Monday 21 May.

We’ll be working in Crewe Road South between its junctions with Grigor Avenue and the entrance to the Western General Hospital. Temporary traffic lights will be in place in the road, including at the entrance to the hospital, for the duration of our work. We’ll be manually controlling the lights at peak times to reduce disruption.

We understand this is a busy route and advise motorists and those visiting the hospital to allow more time for journeys.
