Work is now underway in shaping the new 2017 – 2022 Locality Improvement Plan for North West Edinburgh and it’s important that you can tell us what you think needs to happen in the next 5 years.
We are focussing on the themes of:

Hundreds take part in anti-fracking event
An estimated two thousand people took part in the Hands Over Our Forth event on the Forth Road Bridge yesterday.
Anti-fracking groups, community organisations and concerned individuals from across Scotland and beyond joined together to answer a call to demand an all-out ban on Underground Coal Gasification (UCG). They argue that UCG is a dangerous experimental technology with a track record of failure and plans for projects in Scotland must be stopped.
The protesters are urging the Scottish government to include UCG in the temporary ‘fracking’ ban prior to demanding an all-out ban in Scotland.
In what was a good-natured event, around two thousand protesters joined hands to form a human chain across the Forth Road Bridge. They came from far and wide – North Edinburgh was well-represented (above) – and there was international support from absent friends on the other side of the world too. Kindred spirits joined hands across Tasmania’s Forth Bridge and used social media to add their voice to the protest (below)!

Can you spare a couple of hours to help our local young people influence local services?
Forth Neighbourhood Partnership and Total Craigroyston have been working with the North Young People’s Forum and local services aimed at young people to gather views and opinions of local young people.
This has already involved over 1,200 young people through a flash poll and many services are currently engaging with young people to map facilities and activities. The outcome will let us all know what young people think about their community and importantly, how we can help make positive change so that more young people can be involved in the future.
The next stage of the process is the YouthTalk event. This brings together young people and key adults to understand the outcomes to date and help shape future actions for improving how we deliver a wide range of services.
The YouthTalk event will take place on Wednesday 24 June from 9am – 12 noon at Pilton Youth & Children’s Project and it would be great if you can sign up to come along and help young people identify creative ideas to improve local provision.
We have approximately 100 places and we aim for this to be 50/50 young people and adults so if you are interested, I would encourage you to sign up using this link as quickly as possible!

North Edinburgh Young People’s Forum would like to invite you along to the launch of our new newspaper which focuses on the perceptions of crime in the Forth Ward through the eyes of young people. We shall also be seeking opinions on ways we can develop this work and our future plans and ideas.

It’s all happening on our local cycle paths on Sunday
Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust is running an event on the cycle paths in North Edinburgh this coming Sunday (writes ELGT’s Mark Sydenham).
Over the past few months we have been working at Fiveways Junction on some landscaping improvements to make Fiveways a landmark on the cycle paths.
Volunteers from Pilton Equalities Project and MYDG have been hard at work carrying out some woodland management and undergrowth clearance in the surrounding woodlands, opening the area up and cutting back overhanging ivy and branches to make the paths brighter and safer.
Royston Wardieburn Community Centre have been working on a six week project on the cycle paths with one of their groups, which has included learning about the paths and their history, and planting some fruit bushes.
This coming Sunday, we are inviting everyone to come along and take part. We have fruit and other bushes to plant, as well as other activities. We will have prizes and goodies to give away too!.
To win one of the prizes, we have a little quiz/treasure hunt – to get the questions, turn up to either the Crewe Toll bridge (over Ferry Road) or King George V Park (Canonmills) between 1pm and 1.30pm and then search out the answers on your way to Fiveways (make sure you get there by 1.30!).
Or just come along to Fiveways and join in the activities between 1pm and 4pm.
