Leith Street incident: Two 15 year old youths charged

Two 15-year-old males have been charged and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the serious assault and robbery of a man and a woman in Leith Street, Edinburgh.

The incident took place around 10pm on Monday, 28 October, near to the Princes Street junction.

Officers are continuing further lines of enquiry in relation to the incident.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gray said: “We would like to thank the numerous members of the public who have assisted our investigation so far and continue to appeal for information, as enquiries remain ongoing.

Detectives continue to appeal for information following serious assault

Detectives investigating the serious assault of a woman in Dalkeith have launched an online portal for members of the public to contact officers directly, one week on from the attack.

Between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday, 4 October, 2024, a 26-year-old woman was attacked on a path in a wooded area near the golf club on Abbey Road.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

An extensive investigation remains ongoing, with a significant police presence remaining in the area. The online portal that gives people access to a form to send information, pictures or videos directly to the team can be accessed by following the link: https://mipp.police.uk/

Detective Chief Inspector Nicky McGovern said: “We’d like to thank the local community for their continued assistance with our investigation, as we continue to appeal for information as part of our extensive enquiries into this attack.

“Anyone who has yet to speak to police, and has information which may assist our investigation, is asked to contact us.”

Inspector David Rourke, Deputy Local Area Commander, said: “I’d like to reassure the public that we have increased high visibility patrols in the area and these will continue over the coming days as enquiries progress.

Police appeal for witnesses following Leith arson attack

POLICE are appealing for information after three cars were deliberately set on fire in Leith.

Around 11.35pm on Monday (9 September 2024), a black Vauxhall Crossland, a black Vauxhall Corsa and a white Vauxhall Corsa were on fire at a premises on St Clair Street, Edinburgh.

The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and there were no reports of any injuries.

Detective Constable Kirsten Luke said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone with any information to contact us.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything around this time or who may have dash cam footage which could assist us to get in touch.”

Khasha Smith investigation: Man arrested

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Khasha Smith have arrested a man as they continue to appeal for information.

Khasha, of Edinburgh, was last seen to be safe and well on a FaceTime call on Tuesday, 10 October, 2023, aged 35.

Following extensive enquiries, Khasha is believed to be dead. However, her body is yet to be found.

A 39-year-old man has today, Friday, 6 September, 2024, been arrested in connection with her death and enquiries are ongoing.

Khasha’s family have been made aware and have asked that their privacy is respected.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, is appealing to the public for information.

He said: “Our thoughts are very much with Khasha’s family at this extremely difficult time and they continue to be supported by specialist officers.

“They are understandably devastated and it is vital we get answers for them.

“Extensive enquiries remain ongoing to trace Khasha and I would again encourage anyone with any information regarding her disappearance to contact police, as a matter of urgency.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital, so please get in touch.”

Appeal to help identify man found dead in River Tay

Police are appealing to the public to help identify a man whose body was discovered in the River Tay at Aberfeldy last Saturday, 17 August, 2024.

The man’s body was discovered by a member of the public near to Wades Bridge around 9.40am. He is described as white and likely in his late 50’s or older, around 6ft 4ins in height and of medium build with sandy blonde and grey wavy hair. When he was found he was wearing black underwear.

His death is not believed to be suspicious.

Detective Inspector Simon Murray said: “Unfortunately, despite significant enquiries, we have not yet been able to establish who the man is. We want to establish his identity as soon as possible to inform his family of his death.

“There were no personal belongings near to where he was found, and no-one has reported anyone matching his description missing to police.

“We are continuing to carry out enquiries to help us identify where he may have entered the water. We would ask any local residents if this description resembles anyone they know lives locally? For any wider public who have been in the Aberfeldy area over the past couple of weeks, does this resemble anyone they may have seen in the area?

“Has anyone seen personal items either washed up on the shore or discarded near the water? Have you have seen a car parked in either a car park or a layby in the area that has been there for a few days? Abandoned tents or anything out else of the ordinary?

“He may have been on holiday or visiting the Aberfeldy area, so if you have any information or if you have not heard from a friend or family member and this is unusual, please contact us. Anyone with any information that may be relevant is urged to contact 101 quoting incident number 1094 of 17 August.”

Police issue CCTV appeal following serious assault in Frederick Street

Police have released images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation into a serious assault in the city centre on Sunday, 7 July

The assault on the 32-year-old man took place around 3.25am on Frederick Street. The victim was was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man police want to trace is described as a white male, in his early 20’s and of slim build with short dark hair.

He was wearing a white t-shirt with a grey jumper tied round his waist, light blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Rebecca Curtis said: “We encourage this man, anyone who may recognise him, or anyone with information about this incident to get in touch.”

Brunswick Street robbery: 13 year old boy arrested

POLICE have released images of a male officers would like to speak to in connection with a robbery which occurred on Tuesday, 4 June, 2024 at around 1:45pm on Brunswick Street in Leith.

Officers believe the male in the images could assist them in their ongoing enquiries and are appealing for the male himself or anyone who may recognise him, or has information about this incident, to get in touch.

The male (pictured) is described as a white male, aged approximately 17-18-years-old, 5ft 9 tall, slim build, pale skin, local Edinburgh accent and short ginger/brown hair.

He was wearing a black Nike hoody and Nike jogging bottoms.

A 13-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection with a robbery in Edinburgh. The incident took place on Brunswick Street in Leith around 1.45pm on Tuesday, 4 June, 2024.

A report will be sent to the relevant authority.

Appeal for witnesses following serious crash on the A701 Liberton Road

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a serious crash on the A701 Liberton Road in Edinburgh.

The crash, involving a black Honda CBR 650 motorbike and a blue Skoda Octavia, happened around 12.35pm on Wednesday afternoon (12 June, 2024).

Emergency services attended and the 29-year-old male rider of the motorbike was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

The driver and passenger of the car were not injured.

Two pedestrians, a 59-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man who were injured as a result of the incident were also taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and re-opened around 6.30pm.

Sergeant Birrell said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who has any information to contact us.

“I would particularly appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the crash or who has dash cam footage which may assist to get in touch.”

Princes Street serious assault: Do you recognise this man?

Police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist officers with their investigation into a serious assault in Edinburgh on Sunday, 19 May 2024.

The incident happened around 3am on Princes Street, near to South Charlotte Street.

A 38-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man is described as white, around twenty to thirty-years-old, of slim build, with light hair. He was wearing a navy-blue polo neck, blue jeans, and black trainers with white soles.

He was carrying a maroon jumper around his shoulders.

Newcraighall fatality: Police appeal for information

Road policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Edinburgh.

Around 9am on Saturday, 1 June, 2024 officers were called to reports of a single vehicle crash on the A1 at the Newcraighall junction involving a silver Ford C-Max.

The driver of the car, John Fairgrieve, 75, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he later died.

John’s family have released the following statement via Police Scotland:

“While we’re grateful that no one else was injured in the incident, we’re deeply saddened by the loss of a much loved husband, father and grandfather.

“We would like to give our thanks to all the emergency services for the care and support they provided and also to those that stopped to help at the scene.”

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Road Policing Sergeant Louise Birrell said: “Our thoughts remain with John’s family and friends as they continue to try to come to terms with what has happened. We’ll support them and keep them updated as our investigation progresses.

“We would like to thank the members of public who stopped at the time to help Mr Fairgrieve and those who have come forward with information so far.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone else who saw what happened or has dashcam footage from the area around the time.”
