Waverley Mall participates in ambitious recycling initiative

Waverley Mall, Edinburgh is proud to be participating in the #InTheLoop recycling project in partnership with social enterprise – Hubbub and The City Of Edinburgh Council.

Running throughout Edinburgh city centre, the five-month campaign builds on the success of Hubbub’s previous recycling campaigns, Leeds By Example and Swansea #InTheLoop.

It applies the latest thinking on how to increase on-the-go recycling rates and encourage lasting habit changes. The campaign involves a combination of new and improved recycling ‘binfrastructure’ and uses engaging, clear and consistent communications to raise awareness and make it as easy as possible for the public to recycle correctly.

When the five-months is up, a lasting legacy of recycling infrastructure will remain in place so the good work can continue into the future.

Waverley Mall is proud to house two of the official bins for this project – one located just inside the entrance off Waverley Bridge and one inside the centre’s busy food court.

The aim of the project is not only to clarify what can and can’t be recycled but also reduce the contamination of recycling bins with food, liquid and non-recyclable materials.

Jacquelyn Stewart, General Manager, Waverley Mall says: “We’re really excited to be involved in this project. Waste management and green initiatives are high on our agenda for the creation of a sustainable shopping and dining destination, as well as the benefits to the wider city, so it is the perfect initiative for us to be involved in”
