CAPs mark Alcohol Awareness Week

Edinburgh’s Community Alcohol Partnerships are launching Alcohol Awareness Week between 10am – midday in the Market Place at Waverley Train Station this morning.

Local Community Police Officers organised the event along with representatives from various groups and organisations working together under the banner of the ‘Community Alcohol Partnerships’ (CAP).

The CAP is designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits for the public good and aims to bring together a range of professionals in order to tackle underage drinking and the associated anti-social behaviour.

It involves Police, trading standards, alcohol retailers, youth groups and other agencies working together to reduce harm to the community from alcohol through education, enforcement and diversionary activities.

North Edinburgh’s own CAP launched in June this year (below).

CAP Advisor for Scotland Alan Simpson (above) will be in attendance at the Edinburgh event alongside Councillor Norman Work (chair of the Edinburgh Council Licensing Committee), British Transport Police, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, St John Ambulance Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, Trading Standards, Street Assist and representatives from private partners including Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons, Scotmid, J Chandlers and Buckfast.
