Fringe: Six Feet Three Shoes

Six Feet Three Shoes is a celebration of friendship across borders told through feisty, percussive flamenco, Scottish and contemporary dance, with three dancers, in colourful costumes that combine threads of Scottish tartan and Spanish frills, and two musicians on exhilarating live guitar and fiddle.

Dance, storytelling and foot-stomping rhythms in traditional and contemporary forms bring to life a story that resonates across generations and cultures. Share tender moments through to a good old giggle in this brand new, heart-warming show by choreographer/dancer Jen Wren.

Jen Wren is a multi-skilled international dance artist and creative director with a passionate curiosity for the body and communicating stories through dance and film. She formed Slanjayvah Danza in 2004, producing over 20 professional choreographies for stage and screen.

Jen’s creations are grounded in artistic, human or scientific concepts and draw on stories from real life, to create art that resonates across cultures and generations. Born in Scotland but with strong Spanish links, Jen references both cultures in her work, embedding traditional steps and music into productions and accenting these with emotion and a sense of adventure.

Leticia Cabezudo Sánchez is a Spanish, Flamenco, percussive and contemporary dancer. An absolute firework on the castanettes, who can sing difficult Scottish songs whilst working out extremely complex hand percussion patterns on tables.

Charlotte Mathiessen is a contemporary and percussive dancer, she is also a naturally gifted musician. Specialising in release, Charlotte is like liquid silver to watch. Together with Jen on stage, they are a mesmerizing and enchanting trio.

Musical Director/Performer Amy Geddes is a multi-talented and exuberant force for music, song and dance. At the forefront of contemporary Scottish fiddle playing, Amy is an in-demand performer, teacher and composer (who also dances), and encompasses a wealth of international experience, energy and fun.

They are joined by alternating flamenco guitarists – David Connah who is a York based musician, who specializes in the accompaniment of flamenco dance, and Caterina McEvoy who is a Scottish composer, sound artist, and researcher based in Yorkshire.

Six Feet Three Shoes has been in development over the course of a year or so, with workshops and research including residences in Spain, England and Scotland. It has been shaped by the company members’ own stories and cultures, and will resonate with a wide range of people, from children to pensioners. They are delighted that it will have its World Premiere at Dance Base, Scotland’s leading, world respected dance venue.
